I don't really like any of those other ideas except for the gryphon, and I think that flowvein and galestone are individual enough to warrant inclusion. Also, I don't think angels should look cute: in most religious depictions(if that's what we're going by), they are noble servants, not cute little cupid-esque things.
Okay, I THINK I may have used "cute" out of context. When I talk about the ghasts' face at rest, I doesn't look "cute" per say, it looks more like the ghast is peacefully dreaming and in a state of serenity. I want that same kind of look on the faces of the angels. And to prevent religious conflict, being rid of the halo would be a definite. But thanks for the feedback!

I start out each morning with a nice, hot cup o' Minecraft!
Obviously, everyone's gonna have their own vision of a realm that hasn't been integrated into the game yet, but in the end, it'll be Notch's vision that sees the light of day. So we can speculate and try to come up with our own ideas all we want, but the final result WILL be different.
So with that in mind, here's my ideas.... :smile.gif:
Notch said that he probably won't add an Aether world until the Nether is fully fleshed out. I agree, since the Nether is pretty empty right now, and it's useless for everything except harvesting lightstone and transportation. I think he should play up the hellishness of it and make it more of a demonic realm. Sure, the ghasts and zombie pigmen are scary, but they just don't do it for me. I like a lot of the ideas in the nether update thread, especially the imps/demons and dark trees. What would be really cool is if you could be more self-sufficient in the nether. Technically, you can do that now by killing zombie pigmen for food, but there isn't the whole dynamic you get on the surface. You can't pull yourself up from the bootstraps starting with nothing in the nether like you can on the surface.
So once the nether is more fleshed out as a dark, demonic place, the aether should be conceived as a bright, angelic place. It shouldn't be too over the top, though. While I think some sort of angelic mob would be neat, I like all the other aether mob ideas from the OPs post. My idea is this: all the mobs are passive and harmless except some sort of legion of angels that will attack you if they're nearby when you mess with some other heavenly being or if you enter a temple. They should congregate around temples, perhaps being spawned in them. So the message you're getting is "You're not really supposed to be here, so you can look but don't touch or the legions of heaven will f**k your s**t up." xD
Oh and one more mob idea. I haven't read through the entire huge thread yet, so I don't know if this has been suggested yet, but: screw flying pigs...pegasi! Flying horses! There should be some way to capture them and domesticate them for riding. This would, of course, invoke the wrath of the protector angels if they caught you doing it, though. They could be a counterpart to the horses in the regular world if they ever get added. Maybe a demonic nether horse with bat wings could be made too. I hope I'm not just repeating something that someone else said, though, because this is a huge thread and I haven't had time to read it through...
As for the appearance of the place, I like all the other ideas: open, floating islands, clouds, bright, day/daey etc. The vegetation should be more pastel and have corresponding light/heavenly properties and uses to the nether trees dark/hellish properties. I would say that some of the blocks found in the aether should be used to emit light when taken back to the regular world, but (rather counter-intuitively), such blocks already exist in the nether, so that kinda kills that idea. When I picture the aether in my head, I picture a more heaven/olympus-inspired version of the flying mountains in the movie Avatar. Perhaps the aether trees themselves should put off an intense, bright glow and that's why night time there is as bright as day, and daytime is even brighter with the addition of the natural light (you're presumably closer to the sun here too, so that's something to consider). Also: lots of waterfalls. If there's more than one horizontal plane of floating islands, you could use the waterfalls as a way to ascend to the higher islands. The idea of the aether being a place you could explore in three dimensions sounds really fun!
So that's my ideas. Tell me what you think. :smile.gif:
I had a second post where I pointed out that the average Minecrafter carries several hundred metric tons worth of material with them. In other words, your character plus all the materials needed to build a large fortress (or several stacks of materials mined from the Aether), condensed into one person sized space and falling from thousands of feet into the air.
The suggestion wasn't meant to be taken that seriously, except perhaps the little animation.

I am just asking mythelf how the fuc* do you want to get from one island to the other?
Depending on how big the islands are, you should be set for a while on a single large land mass. If you do need to get to another island, based on the sketch, it probably wouldn't be too hard to make a small one block wide bridge.
The OP mentions gliders and airships, too.
Another idea, perhaps Galestone could be triggered by Redstone. You could toggle ship propulsion, or make traps using it. It doesn't look like that was mentioned in the OP.
Feel free to cut out my tongue if this has been suggested before but anyways, what if the senties/guardians are just dispencers with a crystal or something in it that fires the lazer and perhaps any block it destroys also appear in its inventory.
The crystal would have no purpose other than to power the lazer wich once placed in a dispencer by you, would only drive away mobs automaticly(no redstone, levers, ets.).

It takes an idiot to do cool things. That's why its cool.
Omg if notch dosnt add this in the next year, I'm gonna blow out my brains and send him a letter saying "THIS WAS YOUR EFFING FAULT!!!!"
But Omg out of everything, notch needs to add floatsand!! Omg there are too many possibilities for that thing!!!! So many traps, contraptions, transprotation methods, it's a redstone lovers dream come true!!! And then not to mention hoverglass!! Platforms that can flythrough the sky!!! Nevermind minecarts, with hoverglass you could get on, flip a lever and fly to the docking station who knows how many blocks away!!! And you don't need to worry about mountains or nothing!!! And if it's slow? Slap some Quick soil under it to get going!!! Notch, you wanted it to be interesting! Well it ain't gonna get more interesting than this and it better be in this guys image cuz the guy who made this forum thread is a effing GENIUS!!!!!!!!!
That no-brain piggies thing explains a lot.
1-Explains why they are so morrons
2-Explains why they come to us when we kill them
3-Explains where do zombie pigmen come from
4-Doesn't explain why this guy has sig'd me
The best part of this thread is that it actually fits in really well with Minecraft as it stands now, I havn't seen that with many threads under Suggestions.
OMG YES!!!!!! ADD THIS DUDES IDEA!!!!! except with the centuries have it so that they arnt your only challenge, like have angels that protect the temples outside, but don't go in, and also make a block that can transfer laser energy into redstone energy so that you could make complex systms and puzzles out of lasers and hover glass, like some of the puzzles you see in the legend of Zelda, where you have to move certain blocks and line them up in a way to where it opens a door. (for those who've played wind waker, I'm thinking of the mirror puzzle in the undead level, srry I can't remember the name of the temple, where you move he mirrors in order to open the big huge face door thing) this would expand on game play even more and make redstone engineers happy :biggrin.gif:

I think you're wrong about the flying pigs; they would be funny as hell. And stuff horses; check out the Moa thread from firehazurd for transportation animals. The Idea of a longer jump for the Moa would help a lot in the Aether. Apart from that, you make a lot of good points.

Actually... I'm kind of behind on the sentry discussion, but I like the Idea of the sentries being nothing more than modified laser dispensers a lot...
Personally, I think the dispensers are at the moment quite limited. But I have an idea. What if, in the dispenser window, you could change the firing mechanism? So, while the bow would do the same as it does now, you could drag a block of crystal to the box with the bow in it, replace the bow with the crystal, and it would create a light-stone-dust powered laser beam. Which is what the sentries would be. You would have to navigate through a grid of lasers to disarm them, by removing the crystal by right clicking them. At this point, they would become normal dispensers. This could lead to some interesting puzzles.
There would be other possible dispenser options as well. A diamond firing mechanism would produce an invisible red-stone dust powered laser that would act as another type of red.stone circuit trigger. And a furnace would create the often disputed winch, using coal to reel out string in the form of rope.
I think that this would massively diversify the gameplay of an object that is already losing it's appeal. Please can people reply to this Idea, to give me an idea of how good it is. If enough people like it, I might create a seperate thread for it.
Please Reply.
Because I'm an asshole who really needs feedback, I'm going to repost this at the top of a page.
Please comment and improve! Even if this is an irritating thing to do...
That sounds like a good idea, but how can the dispenser shoot at you if there's nothing powering it? Notch is good with algorithms and all, but I think integrating naturally occurring redstone circuitry is a little beyond any of us...
Also, the crystal should be used for more than just lasers.
