So this is sort of like Metroid prime 2? You know, Light and dark portals, but more with a heaven like world though its the same name.
I was thinking that the portal could be dark on one side in the normal world, but when your in the nether, instead of being the normal purple color, the portals will be white, that Would make it more like mp2. The idea is cool though, I still wouldn't mind if this was added or not, I would still like to try it out =)
Got some mob ideas(normal/Aether one)
Bug Bomb(better name pending):
The Bug Bomb is a big, fat, red bee that flies around slowly until approached, at which point it explodes.
Sky Wyrm
A long chinese dragon (1block of thickness to 5 blocks length) that actively hunts down the player and will even go into a search/chase pattern based on the previous known position and possible 8 block length paths of your character if it loses sight of you.
I'm intimidated by ultra-long threads because I'm afraid I'll suggest or bring up something that has been said many times before.
Yet, I still want to suggest this; when you fall from the Aether, the camera should cut to a third person view of your character falling and flailing their limbs. When you hit the ground, it will create an explosion equivalent to five blocks of TNT, plus the dust cloud.
When you fall, there will be a ten percent chance of seeing a falling whale and a bowl of petunias far in the background.
#2. If you fall and land on your castle, you don't want it destroyed. Or if you land next to a glass wall with lava behind it, you don't want to set your house on fire.
Glass/Plant - Looks similar to glass with multiple facets
Location:
Found in place of leaves on trees that have grown entirely within the Daey light cycle. Also occurs where other plants would normally be found growing(Flowers & Mushrooms) as well as along the surface of walls.
Mining:
Diamond Pickaxe - 20% chance of Crystal, otherwise Glass Enchanted Pickaxe - 50% chance of Crystal, no chance of Glass
Gold Pickaxe - 20% chance of Crystal, no chance of Glass
Wood, Stone, Iron Pickaxe - Glass only
Fists and other tools will break, but not drop anything
Features:
Intensifies Light & Heat
Redirects Light?
Functions as cross between leaves, gravel and glass. Grows like leaves and can "wither", but instead of breaking, drops like gravel, if dropping more than 3 blocks the Crystal block will break, unless it lands in water, or on sand, snow, cloth, or any plant growth. When breaking from a fall in this manner, there is a 10% chance of dropping Crystal and will otherwise drop glass.
Building:
Natural Lighting, melt ice without fire
Crafting:
Light/Motion sensors, Crystal Furnaces(works in the Aether, good in Daey, Poor in day, not at night)
When you hit the ground, it will create an explosion equivalent to five block of TNT, plus the dust cloud.
O__O 5 tnt blocks, you realize that you would have to fall like 40 minutes to gain enough momentum to generate a explosion that big, and let's be realistic about this, if you really fell from space/the sky you would just paint the ground, you wouldn't make a crater.
You must recall that the average Minecrafter, on average, is carrying several hundred metric tons worth of building material stored in hammerspace.
In all seriousness, though, the Aether is a great suggestion. I would very much enjoy building massive mining complexes throughout the floating islands and overall wind up destroying the area's natural beauty to satisfy my greedy desire for various resources all of which will likely wind up forgotten in some chest somewhere.

Fail. Ever heard of terminal velocity?

Muncher is right, listen to him, he can cure the blind and make paraplegics walk.

true, but there could be very thin air in minecraft land, making it so that you have a very high terminal velocity
Wow seems like a really cool idea. Im guessing that these floating islands will be way above the clouds so that you will barely see them when you look straight up in the sky.

Yes.
In other words... Minecraft is not complete without the Aether.

add a material you use to
make torches that burn zombies.
its called flint and steel

Why:
#1. 1 block of tnt is big enough.
#2. If you fall and land on your castle, you don't want it destroyed. Or if you land next to a glass wall with lava behind it, you don't want to set your house on fire.
lol, hitchhiker's joke, that was awesome.

Minecraft is awesome.
