I just thought of a different method for floatsand movement: have it act like a mobile entity (mob/minecart).
By doing this, it will follow some movement rules that people are looking for in Floatsand:
*bumping into it will cause it to move away (like minecarts)
*hitting it would cause it to move away (like mobs)
*breaking it will drop it as a block (like minecarts)
*leaving the map chunk will keep it "spawned" (like minecarts)
If you limit it's movement to horizontal (allowing it to "fly") then it fits what people wanted.
Also note that it won't use redstone power or minecart tracks.
If this way works, then it would be possible to make a "floatsand minecart"...

...that can be pushed by Flowvein to travel over chasms! But be careful, if it stops in the middle of the air then you are #$%&!

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.
Before I evenHEARD of this thread, I was considering suggesting an anti-nether realm called the Aether, because Aether is usually associated with life and light and is only 1 letter different than Nether. I didn't realize I was being so unoriginal.
I love the idea of this place. Full of floating islands (another part of my already-thought-of idea) and wind attributes (NOT part of my already-thought-of idea). However, a lot of the block ideas are kind of redundant. Like flowveins and galestone. There's almost NO difference between them. And aetherrock doesn't really work if it's the main block in the aether. Because then you would get these giant islands of pure awesomerock or weirdostone, which would look ugly as Nether (lol).
Though I love the idea of Zephyrs: mischievous clouds that like to blow you (lol) off of edges. It would be kind of a problem though if you could just hold down shift the whole time. But I guess that wouldn't matter since their "wind" is actually an invisible snowball.
The only problem I find is that the mobs in the Aether don't sound very dangerous or seem to add much atmosphere to it. WHICH IS WHERE MAI SUGGESTIONS COME IN :DDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!
First suggestion: Angels
Why not? If the Nether is the equivalent of Hell, then the Aether must be the equivalent of Heaven, so Angels should fit right in. They are humanoid, but have the face of the default ghast at rest (They look at peace and somewhat cute), obviously have wings (maybe more than 2?) and a halo. They can fly and land on clouds and walk. They could heal you if you get hurt. HOWEVER, if you hurt them on purpose (like 2 times in one second, they unleash their holy wrath upon you with beams of blinding and incinerating light out of their faces, which look like the face of a firing ghast (I still think they look somewhat cute in the default).
Gryphons and hippogryphs should be added, possibly as mounts but VERY hard to tame, and also make for good combat. However, the snake tail for the gryphon is debatable.
Manticores (pretty much the opposite of a gryphon) would be untamable, openly hostile, and VERY hard to kill.
And faeries, gotta haves dem faeries. :3
There are two other things I'm debating now: Should there be grass in the Aether, or a special "Aethergrass?"
And also, should warmer colors (like yellow be added to the palette) more than they already are?
PLZ respond THX

I start out each morning with a nice, hot cup o' Minecraft!
Also, no it wouldn't. Ghasts cause damage. Zephyrs don't. The only one who COULD win is the Ghast.
Not true. The Zephyr could blow the Ghast's bombs back at it. Everything else is correct though. Ghasts aren't going to appear in the Aether, and Aether mobs aren't going to appear in the Nether.
Man this crap is better than the nether NO JOKE. if the nether had trees and more monsters and is actually like earth (minecraft earth) with trees and pig and sheeps and in the nether the pigs are bloodhounds and sheeps have horns and have red wool that looks like blood very red wool and cows are called cows and the cows are red head when u kill then and usally when u hit that monster all then come and attack you and for the sheep the wool will be very rare to get because of its color (WHO DOESNT WANT BLOOD RED WOOL ) and when u hit any animal all of them come after u like zombie pig men

Too bright? uh oh. In the nether you can put down torches down to light it up. You should be able to make a darkness torch. It makes the Aether day as bright as the Aether night. Also it should be used not only for the Aether but on Earth. Say you put a torch with some darkness torches around it. You could only see the light from the torches when you're not standing out of the darkness torch range. Like this: =darkness torch ? So the (you) in there can see the light but the can't.

The in there can see the torch as if the darkness torches were never there.See what I'm saying? This could be useful for mob traps or the landscape you want to see.The blocks outside the darkness torches (coal) are dark. BTW: [>>-i>] and for you!

OMG!
type-stone
name-solstone/sunstone
extremely rare, only found deep inside the largest of the floating islands.
properties:
in raw form, any mob within 5 blocks of it will immediatly catch fire without armor (due to heat) when mined, gives a drop of 9 fairydust, which can be used to craft sol runes (decorative), sol armor, suntorches, and, when smelted, a single block of solstone. gives off a light level of 10/20. It is actually a piece of sun. (NOTE- when surrounded by obsidian and lit on fire, it generates a confusion aura or something) no picture is available, but it looks like a white-hot gold block :smile.gif:
ive been looking at some posts. so heres my takes on them
for the temples, i think inside the sentry shoudl look like 1 mob in the aether. say a zephy looking sentry, and 2 zephyr spawners. as for ghast vs zephyr,i think if a nether portal is 5-10 blcoks away form a aether portal, or vica versa, the other can spawn there.as for the mobs coming down, i think when they come down they should just turn transparent. maybe a sneak peek kinda thing? unable to be touched or hurt, they could be a sneak peek to see whats up there. and darkness torches,i think that would be nice. how much does it minus the light level?
nand how far is the range? can monsters spawn in the torches range? other than that, maybe a new item, perhaps a 1 way portal? you craft it with aether stonem, maybe like this? :Yellow:=aetherstone :Blue:=floatsand
right click with the item to make a 1 way aether portal?(upon entering it will dissapear)and the same thing for nether, only aetherstone is netherack and floatsand is slowsand.hope ya like my ideas.
The problem with making our suggestions into mods is that Notch has stated that he does not even look at mods so his own concept of the game won't be affected by what he sees. I don't know how often he looks at the suggestions thread, either, but making this into a mod might be a Bad Idea.

Maybe. I dunno.
Maybe, i dunno either D:
But i do know that notch prolly dont give a damn bout our suggestions unless they're huge. (like this)

I remember reading somewhere that Notch had mentioned something about the Aether, but that he was hesitant to add another new dimension until he had fixed up the nether a bit... Maybe we should all go post in the nether thread as well? Not that I'm shamelessly pumping one of my own favorite threads or anything...

what if you turn off the nether portal by breaking it?
Otherwise, the Zepher vs. Ghast battle would be epic.

It's pronounced stick-BOB-i-guh. Got it? 'Kay then.
Ghasts can't come to the Aether. You can't make the fire to start a Nether portal in the Aether. (similar to how Water can't be used in the Nether)
