Parhaps ANY tree that grows in the nether could have to be a darkwood tree?
I had almost forgotten about that. I had originally avoided doing that because I intended for darkwood "trees" to grow in the Aether, but since I'm pretty much avoiding that now, that may be the way to go. All saplings planted in the nether are corrupted into Darkwood trees. Definitely makes it worth actually spending time in the Nether.

this idea, on its own, is better than the nether. ADD IT NOTCH! ADD IT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!
Offtopic: Why does the "alpha" button display a lambda?
Ontopic: I have an idea for darkwood. A darkwood sapling is created by burning a sapling in a furnace. It can only grow in soul sand, and it requires darkness instead of light. Its leaves produce more dark saplings.
how about if you fall you appear on top of a touchable cloud in the overworld and from there you can (not place blocks) place some water and swim down or something
I have to say; This thread is so compelling to the point of changing my complete opinion on other minecraft realms. And Notch actually took this into consideration, which left me surprised. You have my support. :biggrin.gif:
Note that my support isn't worth much. <lol>

Because setting forest fires and killing helpless animals is always okay!

No, though I do agree that the only thing that should be placeable on cold cloud should be water, and more cold cloud, no solid blocks.

That makes no sense. Saplings are still just saplings. There's no magical properties of a furnace that would give any rational reason for burning wood to turn it into a special type of supernatural wood instead of just burning it.
It can only grow in soul sand, and it requires darkness instead of light.
Netherrack, slowsand is too limited for where they can grow. All saplings would then be placeable on netherrack as well.
Its leaves produce more dark saplings.
There are no darkwood "leaf" blocks, because the "leaves" are the shadows that are produced by darkwood logs. Darkwood logs can be split into Darkwood shards, and the shards also function as darkwood "saplings" but can be placed on the bottom of blocks. They'll still only grow darkwood if in the nether.
Burning it in a furnace would turn it black and kill the tree. Darkwood could be thought of as an undead tree, and the Netherrack could "revive" it. Any way, who said Minecraft is supposed to make sense? The only reason I chose soul sand was because soul sand is a dirt type block and netherrack is a rock type block. This idea was more for darkwood in general, not your specific idea for darkwood.
When You Enter The Aether, all you lava buckets will become buckets(or water buckets)as It Is The Anti-Nether Realm
Agreed?
No. Because in the Nether, your buckets of water don't become empty buckets. They simply don't work.
So in the Aether, the lava buckets just drop obsidian. or maybe cobblestone. Haven't really decided yet.

There isn't really "darkwood in general" since it was the name I came up with specifically for the concept that is found in the opening post of this thread. If you're referring to a generic "nether tree" unattached to the Aether, you should really be making those suggestions in one of the many "improved nether" threads instead of in the thread for the Aether.
THIS.
I actually didn't like or care for the idea of a Aether (and still won't unless the Nether is fixed in SMP) but your expansion of the idea (especially how you can't build Aether portals in the Nether, vise versa, and how you have to visit the Nether first to build a Aether portal) has changed my mind. The only thing I didn't like is Dark wood (too complicated, and such, I ended up TL;DR'ing the whole section, which is rare for me) and I find it a bit unnecessary.
Another note is if the Aether is supposed to be the Heaven equivalent, why is it cold? And if it's cold because it so high up in the air, then how is it still bright? (My thoughts is that is the overworld's ceiling is currently above the normal cloud level, then any higher than that (Which the Aether is, by much), and you are traveling into the limits of the atmosphere. Just my thoughts. I think that simply the floating islands should be separated by "Aether biomes", where some will freeze any water in them, and some won't.
Also, Sentries. LOL

Edit: I think if you fall in the Aether, you should safety exit the Aether and spawn back 1) By your spawn or 2) On the ground relative to your past location in the Aether.

I have a video of Charlie Sheen while he was high. Is that what you mean by a charged creeper?
Quick DrZhark whip us up some flyin pig mobs before Notch gets back! Then he will have no choice but to start work on the Aether! :biggrin.gif:
