This is an amazing idea. I wasn't originally planning on making a Minecraft Fourms account, but this idea was so amazing that I decided to make an account to support it.
Well since we're thinking about including both now, your "compound" suggestion would simply reuse code from the Flowstone, or some similar to it.
But I think that multiplier may be too strong.
Provided that Galestone is still getting the 6 power you were originally thinking of. I was expecting to reduce Galestone's base power to only 1 or 2, and there would of course be a limit to how far that stacks. Another option would be to require more blocks in the stack for each upgrade of power (1 block = 1 power, 2 blocks = 2 power, 4 blocks = 3 power, 7 blocks = 4 power, 11 blocks = 5 power, etc) but then it would need to use a completely different system for calculating the power vs Flowstone.

I was hoping that one of you would note my Springstone idea, as it is a lot simpler because it doesn't have to calculate about whether there is any more attached to it.

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.
Well I definitely don't want to lose the "Less exposed sides = more focused force" aspect to Galestone. That was basically what made it most dangerous. (which is where the 6 came from)
Careless mining might run you into a single side exposed and possibly toss you off a cliff.
I don't mind lowering the power but I don't really want to make it harmless in cases such as:
(With dirt behind it and you looking directly at it.) [Very simple case I know but It's meant to emphasize that the middle 3 should also be pushing towards you as hard as basely possible because they only have 1 side exposed]
*edit
Oh right, Zoopah, your block was essentially mine just sans the mechanic in the first line plus the ability to act as a fluid source.
(which I don't think has been thrown out actually)
There are currently 3 Minecraft Nether improvement topics listed in this thread. I think that billybob-mario, Dark Auk, and Zurich Antiock should combine their threads, since they are all about the same thing. Then we could list the ideas of Nether improvements as a prelude to the Aether Report, along with the Nether suggestions in this thread.
Neither of the three should post it, as they would probably dictate what went on there. Unlike the Aether, with the Nether we can afford the shotgun method: Spewing all the improvements we could think of so we are sure that we hit. With the Aether, we need to have well developed ideas instead, since Notch has to accept the Aether wholesale more-or-less, since the ideas are so dependent on one another. So one post of accepted ideas works better. But with the Nether improvements, we may refine ideas, but we shouldn't dis-include any, since if Notch is OK with any of them, he can just skip it and keep what he wants, like those "Which do you prefer? (Pick all that apply):" questions.
Edit:
Also flubbed pig, so am I.

(Notch, are you thinking of adding the aether?) Maybe. I kind of need a way to make it interesting, because the Nether isn't really interesting yet, so if I just add another dimension that's boring, then, yeah...
That's a direct quote from notch at Master Zero's link:
Also, he doesn't explicitly state that the Nether needs to be that much more interesting for him to add the Aether. So, we don't have to wait too long for that. We should really polish it off in here.

I wouldn't mind merging threads if the other guys want to.
Also, I have a random idea:
Some sort of kelp or seaweed that grows in deep Aether waters, it's green with yellow glowing specs. IT grows infinitely long, as long as there is water to grow into, because it won't grow on land. When it is destroyed, It will occasionally drop Glownuts, which look like yellow cocoabeans that heal one heart when eaten and actually give the player a light level of 14 for a whole Minecraft day. Don't walk on ice, it will melt.

1) Moving lightsource.
2) Will eventually "eat up" entire lakes if left untended.
3) Serves no purpose outside of #1

It definitely needs some reworking.
Ok, then how about it grows inifnitely upwards as long as there is water to go? It would only be found on occasion, as not all ponds/lakes would have them.
Okay, thanks for the reply. It's not that I'm trolling or hating on this topic, in fact, I love it. I was just wondering if this is effort wasted. Good to know that it isn't, and that Notch is considering improving the Nether.

"Carryable light sources/torches: Carryable light sources are now a possibility. He ruled them out initially as taking too much processing power because of the way lighting worked, but with the new lighting system it may be feasible, and you can even have colored light (glowing fungus, orange-tinted lanterns, etc)"
Well, Phyg looks much better when you look at it, but it doesn't sound like a combination of "flying" and "pig". It just sounds like a fig (the fruit). Pigasus is better to say, but as many have mentioned, it sounds to fairytale-esque...
Phyg sounds more mytholigical because pigasuses are seen as a children's thing.

They're now in the game so he definitely takes ideas from the forums.
TONS of people are backing this and we even have a video of someone asking Notch about this.
The only thing he said that was standing in the way of him considering it was he needed to make the Nether more interesting.
Whiiich is probably something I, Grey, or some other driven Aether enthusiast will start up once this topic is significantly more concrete.
This is a pretty good Nether improvement topic. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=140956

Moving light source for a day is a bit much.

No it isn't. That is simply not true.
