I was bored at school and had an idea, it's not fleshed out in any way but it's still an idea. I was thinking, what if there was a kind of block that manipulated gravity? It could be used for lower gravity, higher gravity, zero gravity, reversed gravity, etc. Just an idea, so Grey, if you find it's interesting I hope that a suitable, balanced version can be thought of.
You should check out my suggestions for the MoonCraft Thread. You might find them rather familiar.

Hmm, interesting, would you feel open to those kind of blocks being Aether blocks?
Not really. There are too many blocks in the Aether as it is. You could have a wide variety of various gravity/magnetic blocks in a "Moon" realm, and it would act to establish a strong theme that is separate from the themes of Aether and Nether. Adding them to the Aether would be just as likely to water down whatever theme Aether has managed to establish; essentially that of air, movement, and light; Aetherock - Insubstantial(air) and camoflaged(light), Songstone - Wind(air), Floatsand - floats(air & movement), Quicksoil - Increased speed(movement), ColdCloud - Turns insubstantial (air), Crystal - light beams (light)

That IS a good point. So would the moon be completely made of a kind of gravity reducing block like how the Nether has Netherrack? Also, would lower gravity cause slower speed?
Shepuff wool is prized in the creation of gliders and hot air balloons, because fabric woven from it is not only strong, but super light as well, allowing the glider or ballon to travel farther with the same amount of effort.
Galeains: A jellyfish like creature that travels in the aether, gliding from place to place, and catching small birds and insects in its tentacles. However, a player can grab hold of those tentacle and go for a ride. this slow moving creature can not take the weight of a player and will slowly sink after a time, but if it flys over an island, the player can drop onto the new isle, using it as crude transportation

Hey now that's a cool idea for a mob, also the sheepuff wool idea would be really cool for making some form of aircraft.

Maybe if you fall enough you will enter a screen saying "Exiting the Aether" and when you enter the overworld, you start from the highest point ( Where you would be if the Aether were in the overworld. )
Did you just repeat what you read in the opening post and forget to make a point about it, or did you forget to read the opening post and are suggesting something already in the opening post as a result?
I don't know what I feel about the Aether being a slow-travel zone. It makes physical sense, since the the Aether is farther from the centerpoint of the earth (Assuming Minecraft land is round, which it isn't I guess) then it would mean farther distance traveled up there on the parallel portal to the overworld. But while this makes sense, and also makes sense as an opposite to the Nether, wouldn't it being just another fast-travel world also make some sense, in an opposite to the Nether, since most opposites have properties shared (I.E. Hard clay and Soft clay are both clay, Magnetic North and South both attract metal).
I actually think that keeping it the same as the overworld would probably be best. As opposed to being similiar or opposite of the Nether, let it just be different. Let the fast-travel be a benefit of building a passageway in the Ghast-infested Nether. The Aether has lots of things which are not opposite or similiar to the Nether, but different (Like a huge selection of blocks and mobs). Have the Nether's thing be dimly-lit enclosed caves, fast travel, a few mobs, lava, and and a supply of unique blocks. Have the Aether's thing be burningly-bright floating islands, flying,a nice variety of wonderful mobs and of unique blocks. Like in GreyAcumen's quote: Air, Light, Constant movement, as opposed to the Nether's Lava, Darkness, and Constant Danger.
This is my philosophy, and I'd like GreyAcumen look over it and tell me what he thinks. But I think, GreyAcumen, you should post some type of philosophy/thesis/claim statement on the first post to help direct all the ideas flowing in about the Aether. At least include that last post about the Air, Light, Movement thing. You should also figure out someway to concentrate some focus on ideas so they aren't lost in the 54 currently accumulated pages.
etc. If an idea gets enough support in the posts, put things in a separate section, something like...
PROPOSED IDEAS: (These ideas are not as strong as the others, but we might be considered with more support and revision)
Proposed Mob Idea:
Idea: blah blah blah?
Then if it gets enough support, you can place it in the accepted. You might put some limit on blocks/mobs, or say that we no longer need new ideas for them.
Or you can do something else entirely, but please tell me what you think of this post.
Also, as for the Galeians, isn't that from Maplestory or something? They idea of random mob transport between islands is intriguing, but floating Jellyfish seems a little overdone and doesn't quite fit with the theme of the other mobs. I think that if you could make something that would fit more with the other mobs, or just modify the other mobs somehow (Just do the same thing with the Aerwhales, minus tentacles, just stand on top?). Either way, in order for it to work, you'd have to modify the the Mob's behavoir so that it would go over the air to other islands specifically, not just hover out in midair or over land in order for it to work.

The main thing to understand is that, yes, The Aether is a "Heavenly" wide open dimension of Light, Air, and Water that exists above the Overworld, and functions as an opposite of the Nether that is a "Hellish" enclosed dimension of Darkness, Rock, and Fire that exists below the Overworld. BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN IT IS SAFE

Sorry, I forgot about that. It just seems that all these posts are kind of all over the place. Maybe you should include below that the thing about motion, and how everything should reflect those?
I think I've pretty well defined the mood of the Aether already. The reason why ideas are so all over the place at this point is because there's really very little that needs added to the Aether anymore, just nailing down specific ideas for how they would logically work and look.
I have posted the "Counter Aether Idea" which is really more of a "Do it yourself" motivational thread.
Congrats?
You felt the need to post that here... why?
If your "rebuttal" really has merit over this idea then it will gain traction among the community and we'll naturally hear of it.
Your post here was basically "I dislike your idea so much I made a thread about it."
To which I say again...
Congrats?
