Mostly it's to establish that the sentries are NOT just copies of the sentries from LoZ.(despite the fact that they TOTALLY ARE the inspiration for them) It's also to embrace the rather meme-ish feel that minecraft contributes to. Also, it shoots lasers out of its mouth, what other concept could possibly be more fitting? Don't think of it as purely shoop da whoop, think of it more like Chinese guardian lion dogs with shoop da whoop faces.
I can just see some treasure hunters in SMP find a temple for the first time, and they're about to open the treasure chest when all of the sudden the Sentries get on Shoop faces and say "DOCTOR OCTOGONAPUS BLAAHAHAHH!" simultaneously before blasting them with their lazers. It'll be like everyone's first Creeper attack all over.
Except the sentries only blind and knock you back if you're trying to break a block of the temple. I was thinking more of a "shoop da whoop!" effect when they knock you back and blind you, and then a "Firin ma lasar!" effect when they're disintegrating blocks you place.
True, but it would catch people by suprise if they made some sort of activation noise. Like "I'm sorry, Dave, but I can't let you touch that." or "IMMA FIRIN' MAH LAZAR!"

Important stuff gets buried way too quick in this thread, seriously. It also never gets any real/good replies. I think it's a minecraft thing in general. Remember the octopus?
I would think the sentries would look like crystal stars floating over pedestals. And as for the Shoop-the-Whoop, I would think it would be a mod when the Aether gets implemented.

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.

Not a Mod, a texture pack. For a while now it has been proposed that it should be like a Chinese Lion Statue.
There is no point. The nether serves as a sort of quick travel system, and gives access to lots of lava. All this does is let you get some gimmecky items.

And there will always be a need for gimmicky items in a sandbox game.
And hay, once you rule the world what else are you going to do with your time then mess around?
Not like it is even possible to rule a theoretically infinite world...

I did that yesterday, but it got boring quickly, so I went through a portal and went home... I wonder how those guys are pulling off without a leader...?
Aw, snap, that was you? Dude, they raided the Twinkie factory.... :sad.gif:

Uhh, prove it! (munch, munch...)
Wait. You? You are the one who caused us pigmen to fall into the Nether? WE WILL KILL YOU! WE SHALL SPREAD THE WORD!

Wings B3 with Body B or Wings D3 with body C, just remember that the wings are supposed to bend so that they overlap slightly, not just stick straight out:
Okay, Phyg A looks better, unless you can reverse the colors on the wings for Phyg B (I like that color palette, but the lighter colors are where the darker colors should be, and vica versa)
At this point, the only issues I have are minor things with the way the wing overlaps. having the wingtop on top makes it look it's a spoiler on a car or something. The wingarm should be the part overlapping, so that any corner sticking up will be pointing in the same direction as the "feathers"
also, can you get me a mockup of the Phyg with its wings folded like this?
Once I have a good image with its wings spread and its wings folded I'll add it into the main post.
Don't treat the front edge of the wing as the joint, treat the joint as being about 2-3 pixels in from the front and maybe 1 pixel in from the edge. Remember, they're made of blocks, not a case where you need to be stressing over realistic skeletal structure. The important thing is that the closed and open wing positions look right since that is the majority of what the player will see. Any minor incongruities in the actual transition between folded wing and open wing isn't going to be that noticeable in the overall picture.
The goggles so shouldn't be there... but i love how that looks too much to bring myself to ask to get rid of them.
The wing color now looks great, the way the wing bends looks great too, it actually looks like a wing instead of a jet plane, even though it's using straight blocks.
damnit... I do notice one thing that is bugging me: the spread wings have this huge gap between the body and the wing. Would it be possible to move the wing into the body a bit more?(so that the nearest corner of the wing actually gets hidden inside of the body) Essentially, do the same thing as connecting the wingtip to the wing arm, where the joint placement isn't right along the edge of the wing, but actually 2-3 pixels from the front and 1 in. I think that little bit of overlap will make a huge difference.
As it is now, it looks like the wing should be breaking off every time it flaps.Other than that it looks great, Soul Cake Duck. I'll put this in the front page until you can get around to those changes.
Also, just want to take a moment specifically to say thanks for putting up with my constant nitpicky revisions.
EDIT: Wow, I just looked at that again and it seriously is bringing a tear to my eye, even with my nitpick on the spread wings. Bravo, man.

Like the idea, don't like the idea that It would have dungeons while nether doesn't.
Not everything is intended to be added all at once. The temples are to clearly delineate how a "dungeon" should be incorporated into the Aether, on the idea that Dungeons could be incorporated into the Nether as well (though you could theoretically consider the entirety of the nether as one gigantic dungeon)

Well, let's propose goggles. Wouldn't that make sense in a world wear it gets very bright out? Couldn't you make it so that they dim down the day, or daey, whichever one of those is supah supah bright.
Crafting them doesn't seem like it'd be too hard.

I would think:

(with the cooked meat being leather)
As far as protection and durability it works like a pumpkin on your head, but visually treats all light levels 3 steps closer to 10. (any actual light levels still count for mob spawns)
