The gate idea is interesting, but I was thinking besides a claw attack there would be an large air-bomb that blows you, mobs, and any loose objects everywhere. Yay for chaos! But it would only attack if you where either riding on an Aerwhale or provoke it.

So more of a wind dragon than a "mystical" one? What would it's drop be?
Actually, when I mentioned the teleportation thing to Firehazurd, he suggested that Teleportation could be how "aether creepers" attack.I'm not totally married to it, but it would be an interesting alternative to having a creeper variant that just broke stuff.
Either way, not too worried about it. If the Aether would have a dragon, it would be in that chinese style that Firehazurd has. that thing is beautiful. But the only way that the Aether would have a dragon is if both the overworld and the Nether had their own dragons.
Right now, I'm just busy figuring out how exactly I want to update the descriptions for crystal and songstone, and then get that diagram I drew colorized with block placements and the like so I can get the final version posted on Get Satisfaction.

Eh, maybe a special dragon claw or something. Like the Luck Dragon's, but a different effect.

Would it have a Creeper model or just similar in its attack method?
Also, I think that I've found a use for the Aether Flytrap; It spawns on random islands near water, and when you get within a few blocks of it, it spits water into your face. Now, if it's daeytime, this would just blur your vision for a second or two, but if it is daytime, the water freezes and your vision is blurred for many seconds. Let's hope you don't fall of the edge of that island. Here's the model, so people don't have to go dig it up again:
No, flubbed pig was just suggesting the teleportation thing. The sentries currently: Disintegrate player placed blocks (not including mossy cobblestone and crystal) and knockback&temporarily blind the player when the player tries to mine a mossy cobblestone block from the temple(or get too close to treasure chest or the sentries)
Ok, I think I have a better and unique use for the Flytrap. So, it is a fly-trap, so it would spit water at the player if they are airborne (doesn't matter how, vehicle, mount, etc.). That wouldn't do anything during daeytime, but would freeze during daytime and slow down said airborne objects.

How about it uses it's pedals as propellors to fly like a helicopter (but with the blades at the bottom of course). It would spit a slippery substance at your feet, which would make moving very slippery. Like, you walk one block, but keep sliding. After hitting your feet, it would blow air at you with it's pedals, making you slide in what ever direction it is blowing you to. It would chase you to keep you going until you fall off the island or a cliff or something.

Maybe, I just think it would look funny if it flew like that.
I think that the aerwhale probably should have a gust/water-spray from its back, that, if gust, can mabye give upwind to passing gliders (of course, the whales cant spray at al times).
And the portals could mabye be an upside-down well, that sucks the player up in some sort of bright-yellow vortex, just a thougt. The portal could be litone in a rough horizontal sircle, and water poured trough?.
I'm thinking of some sort of spirit that guards something called soulrock. The spirit would guard soulrock. If you begin to mine soulrock, the spirit would attack. The only way to kill spirits would be to drown them. When killed, you get feathers. The soulrock would be a type stone that heals you when you stand on it. In it's "lifetime" the soulrock would slowly get darker as being used. After healing about 20-30 hearts, it would became a dark color, with the ability to spawn spirits. You would have to mine the soulrock to take it. After placing it in water, or Aether water (explained later), it would slowly become brighter. This of course, would take a very long time. Aether water, found In the Aether, would be a lighter bluethan normal water, and make a bubbling sound when flowing. Aether water would appear in small springs, shooting the water up about 4 blocks. While in the spring, the water would be hot, hurting you like lava, without the fire effect.

Trust me, if you go to minecraftwiki.net you will see that the current Minecraft is much more compex than this.
Whoops, I didn't see this wasn't in the mods forum. My bad. x.x

At least the mobs don't do direct damage.
I hope you like this.
