I forgot if this was already discussed, but what would the Sentries drop?
I believe it was a placeable Sentry, or something similar to it that would work for you.
That sounds fun.

Player: "Sentry, go get 'im boy!"

almost just like cloth, this is the 'ground' of the Ether(yes I like Ether better than Aether, I like it as eh-ther). It could have the same effect as slow sand, but its texture resembles cloth but a little whiter/maybe some dark dark grey for storm. The way I see it (if Ether gets added) minecraftia is like this
:Red:=hellstone/netherstone/red mossy cobblestone/whatevertf you want to call it
[]=air
:Notch:=you
:Glass:=cloud block
:GoldBar:=lightstone block
:Water:=whatever the portal for Ether is
everything else unnamed is what it is.

So to sum this smiliepocalypse up, the red is Nether, the glass is the layer(maybe multiple, 5-10, or rough and random like bedrock)and the notch with the portals is the surface.
OK! My neck is hurting, my back is aching and my shoulders are bust from that useless smilie-picture-diagram-pocalypse-thing above, but I'll keep going on. Bear with me now, things are going to get interesting.(as if they aren't already) Mobs
From what I see it, there should be no dangerous mobs, so this could be the 'peaceful peaceful' that my wuss friend asked me to suggest(I never did, he can do it himself). What I think should be added are the things that you kill, minus the enemy mobs, should appear here. They will have a glowing Halo above their heads, and when killed, drop the halo and/or whatever they dropped in Minecraftia, and the halo can be disassembled to become gold bars, and crafted back like

and it can be worn as a headgear, useless, or until someone suggests a use for it(please do).
So aside from the sheep and cow and chicken and pig angels, we should also have human angels. These will be special. When you die, one appears in Ether and doesn't despawn, thus haunting you for the rest of your Minecraftian life on how you got pwned by some pig who pushed you off a cliff. These are also attackable, and can drop a halo and/or anything that you can hold in your hand(of course not including INVedit-ed items like fire blocks or lava blocks or mob spawners), thus encouraging the player to do risky exploring trips, so they can find rare items AND if they die they get an angel spawned in heaven for them to kill.
The Supreme God of Divine Judgement
There should be a god(let's just replace the word 'god' with Notch's face ). One will spawn, in a little house made of adminium re-textured to look like something valuable, but indestructible. The Supreme God of Divine Judgement( :iapprove:) will decide on your kill count(see below) whether you are good, or BAD. Good gets a reward, perhaps a halo or a diamond block or something, and a bad is locked up in an adminium 50x50 box where ghasts spawn like crazy, and only equipped with a bow and 2 stacks of arrows. if you win, you get good and if you lose, well...idk you guys suggest.
Kill Count Judgement
There should also be 2 kill count bars, one red and one green. The red one represents how many denizens of the Nether and how many enemy mobs you have killed in your lifetime(meaning the period in between your deaths) and vice versa vice versa. When you die, you see the (see above) and blah blah blah. But, maybe instead of getting one flimsy puny useless diamond block, you can open up the :iapprove:store and buy anything considered valuable at a set price!(the number of good kills -- the number of bad kills = the amount of money you have for spending on the :iapprove:store.
Thanks so much for sticking with me till here, my shoulders are on the verge of decomposing, and I'm off to see my masseuse. Bai!
i like the ideas, but i think that u shouldnt use some of the stuff. notch didnt call nether hell cuz of religous purposes. angels are ok,but adding a god is two religous in my opinion.

Even I'm lenient on religious stuff, and I think the whole judgment thing is a bit far. And besides, the Aether isn't some angelic goody-place, but rather a place with floating islands and flying whales (WIN).
A Sentry drops the ball that it's paw is on, that when placed acts like a less powerful sentry. When one out of the two Sentries at a Temple is destroyed, the other Sentry changes, instead of being a lifeless statue, it jumps off it's pedestal leaving it's ball that continues to attack. The Sentry is then like a gold (or what ever they're made of) lion, acting like the Lions from the Mo Creatures mod, but with far better defense and larger in size. It would be a pretty epic battle for the orb to be firing at you while while the lion attacks you. The Orbs can be destroyed from any side, and have a reasonable amount of health, while the Sentry no longer has to be hit in the back, but can also be destroyed from anywhere, but has a whole crap load of health.
EDIT: Just realized it wouldn't fit with the indirect death rule, never mind.
Like I suggested before sentries should drop PIECES of a sentry where you would combine the sentry fragments with each other and one diamond in the base.
Like before this is the pattern I suggested to create a sentry of your own:
Piece of a Sentry:
Diamond / Weak point of the Sentry:
Head:
Body:
Making the actual placeable sentry:
[] [] []
[] []
[] []
Every sentry will only drop ONE piece upon death, it may even drop nothing, but one piece is maximum drop. Sentries being slightly overpowered automatic defense systems should not be that easy to obtain. The only way to kill a sentry is to hit the back of the base of the sentry where a noticeable diamond decal will be. By destroying the diamond your kill the sentry, however the only thing which you can probably use to destroy the diamond is maybe a pick axe?
Maybe once in awhile it may drop a diamond instead of a fragment.
Placeable sentries do not attack the player but they attack any other mob type (including peaceful) that come within a 5 block range.

So a Sentry drops a Sentry Fragment which can be used to make a full Sentry of your own? Makes sense, but two things:
1. What would the Recipe be?
2. What would the placable Sentry look like? Would it be the full statue, the Orb, or something entirely different?

2.I was thinking a two block high sentry, bottom half is a greyish block (kinda the stand) and the back of that block is a diamond picture. Top half is a small body with a huge one block head, thinking skeleton shade and colour.
Shoots lasers from its wide mouth, or some form of beam thingy.
that means that you would have to kill 18 sentries minimum a better way would to make it so for every 17 sentries destroyed you get 1 diamond so that it evens out and they always drop at least 1 item so that for every 18 killed u get to place 1 sentry of urs and that 1 will drop a head or body part instead of 1 part

Out of all the ideas I've ever seen for Minecraft I would gladly have this added rather than all the other (good) suggestions, in fact, if Notch ever completely discounts this idea and says it is never going to happen, I'm going to stop playing Minecraft, yeah it's that good. :smile.gif:
Okay, I've pretty much been ignoring this, because i thought you guys would realize how goofy the whole idea is, but why would a sentry that is made from parts of NON-damaging sentries suddenly be able to kill stuff? At the most it would allow you a safe zone that you could run inside that would knockback any mobs that happened to be chasing you (or possibly place them around minecart tracks to keep mobs from getting sucked onto minecarts and also keep the mobs from blocking a cart you were in the middle of riding on, but not actually damage them.
That's provided sentries were something that would be craftable and placable by the player at all.
Oh, and we've officially reached 1000+ uncontested "likes"

Would it also be able to knock back projectiles like Arrows and Ghast bombs? If not it would a bit useless agains't them, as they would still be able to hit you. Also you still haven't given your opinion on my Teleport Beam idea for the Sentry.
the sentires were supposed to be lasers related (though altered slightly) to the light beams generated by crystal blocks. Blinding the player temporarily? makes sense. Disintegrating blocks? also makes sense. Knocking the player back slightly? that's pushing it, but you can claim it's attached to the blindness or something. Teleporting the player? Stretching the issue just a bit.
Of course, that's based on the idea that the sentries are using crystal lasers, which was pretty much the entire basis for having them to begin with.
I actually rather like the teleportation idea, but it's entirely it's own thing and not based on anything else at that rate.

So you like the idea, but as the Sentry is supposed to use a Crystal Block beam as it's main attack, and the teleportation would not fit in with that idea it can not be used in it's current state? Makes sense. Now I just have to think of a way for it to fit with that aspect.
It might be interesting to have that as an ability for Firehazurd's Dragon and have it so that in the Aether, since the Dragon is territorial, that it would fire a "teleport ball" at you that would move you to a random point on the map in order to move you out of its territory. This could end up being only a single map chunk away, or dozens of map chunks away.
I believe it was a placeable Sentry, or something similar to it that would work for you.
