I believe what that what he meant by the jumping part, is that it leaps high into the air and puffs out, almost like it gets caught in a blast of wind. I like the idea of Sheepuff Armour, you could gently float downs from high up places. I also think that getting the armour wet should wear you down.
@Grey it could just drop it's own kind of wool like a normal Sheep. Went placed, it would be basically normal Wool, but would be affected by gravity in a Chicken like way, in which it slowly floats down. No real purpose besides the armour.
We'd also need an aetherian equivalent to a creeper (Something that follows you, causes damage to the environment, and drops gunpowder.) The nether has ghasts, and the overworld is obviously creepers, so what should the aether have?
(Preferably something that tries to harm you by subtracting from your surroundings, so it keeps the theme of indirect harm.)

No, we don't. The nether doesn't have an equivalent to the chicken. There's no reason for the Aether to have anything equivalent to the Creeper.

Good point.
Speaking of chickens, though, will the aether have basilisks? (Dragon chickens that drop feathers or scales, used for reinforcing your air-machines.)
because we already have Phygs(drops feathers) and Sheepuffs(drop cloth and string for airships) and Aerwhales (drop aerwhale bladder for airships), and Songstone that could potentially be used to supplement Airships as well.
Something like a basilisk sounds more appropriate for the Nether, not the Aether.

Hmm, very true, Now since there are only 4 animals. we could have the sheep and pig be an aetherian thing, while the chicken and cow could be the nether.
Oh, by the way, would you be able to configure songstone so you could implement it into an alarm system of sorts?
Say, A creeper steps on a pressure pad outside, thus triggering the alarm, and causing the songstone to ring 4 times, would that be possible?
(I missed the songstone discussion, so I'm not sure as to its purpose.)

For the 4 beep thing, you'd probably need to make a circuit that would cause it to turn on and off four times, and then stay off. I think it's be better to have it just turn on when activated, so you hear a loud whistle. You could also make it so there is a button that turns it off just to stop it. I think a Songstone and Crystal security grid would be pretty cool.
Also Grey, I had asked this but you didn't answer, should Darkwood and Glowstone be able to be turned off and on with the use of redstone?

Oh, that would be hard for me since I don't know anything about redstone. (Seriosly, what could you do with it?)
But that would be a good use for the 3 64 stacks I have of wire!
One thing i would have to disagree on is the way you would get to the Aether is making a portal out of lightstone, which according to minecraft wiki was almost called sulfur, not so heavenly that it could had been a poisonous dust.
the portal i think should be made out of gold blocks, because it is harder to collect 108 gold bars then getting 12 obsidian blocks (which you can cheat and make the obsidian out of collect lava). One more thing just as a novality insted of lighting a fire in the portal you would drop in a set of stone stairs, to make a stairway to heaven!
also why not just say heaven, i don't know the correct pronunciation of Aether.

Ay-TH-err. (the th is pronounced as you would in through, not the.)
Also, It's now called glowstone, Sulfur was just one of the various nick-names for it, and judging how it lets off a calm glow and doesn't subtract hearts: I'd say it'd be a perfect candidate for portal making!
Also Grey, I had asked this but you didn't answer, should Darkwood and Glowstone be able to be turned off and on with the use of redstone?
I've stated multiple times that Darkwood "torches" would be able to be activated by redstone and switches. I thought i already had it in the opening post.

Wow, you missed the mark. Lightstone did not get renamed to Sulpher, it got renamed to Glowstone. The material now known as Sulpher was GUNPOWDER.

You don't use obsidian, you use glowstone (not sulpher), and you don't activate it with fire, you activate it with water (at least once things are brought up to sync with this thread)
also why not just say heaven, i don't know the correct pronunciation of Aether.
You learned the correct pronunciation of Nether, I'm sure you can learn how to pronounce Aether. I don't really see why I should stunt the creativity of this thread just so you don't feel excluded for being too lazy to look it up.
I love the floating island idea and the floating ships but what if you had it so that the "ground" was a glass and that you could walk on it from island to island. It would be like the water in the Overworld. You could still have ships possibly but they wouldn't be necessary for everything and that eliminates the possibility of falling to your death.
Another thing I haven't seen discussed, and I don't know if that is because it was on a page I didn't look at, is the size of the Aether. I think it should be similar to the Nether where 1 block traveled in the Aether is like 5 in the Overworld.
Just some ideas. post any suggestions you have please.

Notch said one of the ideas was to call the Nether Hell but he wanted to keep religious names out of Minecraft. Since Heaven is based off of a religion it would not work.
THE PHYG
The phyg is more vibrant in coloration than the standard overworld Pig.
OVERWORLD PIG:
AETHER PHYG:
However the Phyg's "stripes" will be replaces with some curlier stripes to fit with the artistic style that has been established so far. On top of that, the Phyg also has wings, as will be shown by these next few diagrams:
Phyg as seen from above, wings spread, with saddle:
Phyg as seen from below, wings spread:
Phyg as seen from the front, wings spread:
Phyg as seen from the side, wings folded, with saddle:
I would laugh so hard if I was on multiplayer and saw some random person flying on a pig across the sky, getting shot down, then bailing and activating his sheepuff armor to avoid fall damage. That would be an absolute riot!
Flying pig, dragon, or pegasus....hmm..... either the dragon or flying pig. Pegasuses are wimpy.
The Aether is a nice concept, but you must think about what you're suggesting.
Phygs are acceptable enough. Nothing wrong with flying pigs. Sheepuffs are possible, I guess. Floating islands are totally usable, and the portal concept is fine.
What isn't fine is the "Daey melts ice" concept, as that would require either reprogramming biomes as a whole or writing in a ton of exceptions. I didn't read fully into darkwood, but if it keeps things colder and darker, that would also require some modification to biomes and light. (ok, so maybe Daey could act like torches on ice, but than Daey would have to be it's own class of light to be like that, and Notch would have to program re-solidifying ice.)
The Zephyr and songstone would require making a wind system, which is another big change, not to mention that songstone is already being implemented (more or less) as reeds on top of chime block.
Aetherrock wouldn't be too hard to do, but camouflage armor would most definately be a nightmare. Notch would have to get it to raytrace what's behind you, retexture the armor accordingly but still allow something of an outline, all in real time! That's essentially the same problem as flashlights.
Floatsand would either require a new system for reading where you hit the block, or each block would have to be an entity, which could get very laggy very fast.
Aerwhales are fine, but the zeppelin idea is redundant, since Notch is already making flying mounts, and no one knows whether or not these mounts will be permanent or just random mobs with saddles.
Swets would again utilize a system that isn't around yet (freezing stuff), and Notch would have to make exceptions to the general weapon rule that makes gold tools have a different effect, which is possible though it could be a pain. The whole "capturing you and killing you" thing could work with some hacking around of the water system, but it sounds unbalanced, since gold is rare.
Sheepuff armor is completely possible, though kind of unbalanced (it's too easy to essentially get a parachute. Maybe it would work a few times before the wool is too frayed to work like that?)
Again, this is all cool sounding stuff, it's just a programming standpoint that makes this a nightmare. Before you start flaming me and arguing about how it is technically possible, think of this: If you were a programmer, and people signed a petition requesting all these new features and changes to your already fragile system, wouldn't you say "woah, slow down, let me iron out these bugs before making new ones"?
@GreyAcumen
I like your design, but wouldn't it look better if the wing where white or grayish? It seems kind of freaky for a phyg to have wings like a dragon, made of skin and flesh alone, instead of more bird-like wings.
