I've seen all of what firehazurd has posted on these forums, and even a few pieces he hasn't finished. I just don't particularly like the sky moa, since I can't really see any difference between the sky moa and a regular moa other than the texture. Between the Phyg, the Aerwhale, Airships, Gliders, and specialty blocks, there are already plenty of ways to get around in the Aether.
I'm also not to keen on the chocobo similarities. I don't hate FF, but lets be honest, the people who hate FF would ***** about Aether "including those stupid birds" and the people who love FF would ***** about the Aether "ripping off FF." and there are far too many people who are in one extreme or the other for me to want to deal with.
Yeah, I really dislike how most gamers scream "Chocobo" whenever they see a large flightless bird. If they only knew that these are the real things:
Phororhacos longissimus. The rag thief. These beasties used to hunt down and eat small horses a few million years back. Of course, only their posture was similar to real-world Moas, but you get my point.

AND it can glide long distances, while the regular Moa would just plumet.
Wonderful idea! But I think the Zephyrs should be called Ghusts, as apposed to Ghasts. Considering the both blow things out of their mouths, and it's sort of a play off of "Gust" as in wind
I personally don't like this, besides those flying pigs which are awesome.
You see, the Aether just doesn't make any sense to me. For one, it requires gold for a lot of things, which is not only a rare material but almost useless, which I do not like about the Nether.
Two, why would an object from the Nether be used to go to the Aether? That doesn't make any SENCE!
Three, I don't like the materials. The camoflauge one sounds too hard to mine, the second one seems to hard to get to, not to mention actually obtain, and the third one is just plain stupid, I mean, what kind of BLOCK is not only hard to locate, but MOVES?!?!?
Four, Nether doesn't have anything equivalent to dungeons. Why should the Aether?

I kinda like that name. I'm not sure if I want to draw a parallel between Ghasts and Zephyrs though, but the concept is good.

Make up your mind. You're complaining that gold is a nearly useless material, and then you're also complaining about a logical game mechanic that would make it more useful? (gold can interact with insubstantial blocks/mobs)
Two, why would an object from the Nether be used to go to the Aether? That doesn't make any SENCE!
Why not? You can't get the portal to work while it's in hell, so you have to completely recraft the material in the overworld to get it to work. You could treat that as a cleansing process if it really bothers you.

Laws of equivalent exchange, dude. Usefulness of object = difficulty to obtain. Being able to create hidden entrances in any type of block and blocks that can float over near-indefinite distances? You can't expect something like that to just fall into your lap.(Songstone isn't really THAT hard to mine)
Four, Nether doesn't have anything equivalent to dungeons. Why should the Aether?
Why shouldn't the Aether have them? It would make more sense to add dungeons to the Nether than exclude them from the Aether. Or if you think about it, the Nether kind of IS one gigantic dungeon.
Question: Would there be bridges linking the floating islands? If you said so I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention. If not, they would still be cool because you could just fly on the Phigs to get across =D
I truely enjoyed reading this thread. I think an oppisit of the Nether would be a good idea. However, I do feel that the marble idea from the overworld is a better idea for accessing The Aether rather then the lightstone idea. Nothing from the nether should be used in the Aether and nothing in the Aether should be used in the Nether. The Overworld blocks, it is possible since those are netrual.
Basicly I think if it as a magnet. Aether (positive), Overworld (Netural), and Nether (Negative). Aether Blocks and Nether Blocks should cause destructive things if they touch (or just cancling out and dissappearing).
On the Dungeon idea in the Aether.
-The Temples for dungeons in the Aether is a good idea.
-However there should be an a dungeon equivelent to the Nether.

Glowstone exists in the Aether in small clusters that give the appearance of stars from a distance. They, and Cold Clod form segmented bridges that can be navigated to get from island to island, though it's a hazardous method compared to other modes of transit.
Similarly, Darkwood has rare occurrences in the Aether, despite being primarily a Nether block.

it could maybe be the only way to spawn over world enemies in the nether and aether, since in the nether enemies spawn anyway, and in the aether, no aggressive mobs spawn at all
so this way you can get the very rare appearance of a creeper or skeleton

Yeah, you're right.
It'd still be cool to have some bird-like flying mount, though!
"Sheepuffs look like regular sheep, and spawn in herds the same way, except they can jump dozens of blocks high, and then puff out their wool to the point that you can only see the front of their face and tips of their legs. While doing this, they fall at a much slower rate, allowing them to float between islands. Attacking a Sheepuff will shear it the same as a regular sheep, and if a sheepuff is puffed and floating when this occurs they will revert to a regular sheared sheep and plummet out of the sky." (sorry I accidentally deleted the quote thingys when snipping this)
I've got it. Sheepuff armor! Individual pieces have the same characteristics as their leather counterparts, but when a full set (cap, shirt, pants and boots) are worn together, they allow you to float safely when you are falling from 4 blocks or more(or at least reduce fall damage)! Alternatively, it could make you act EXACTLY like a Sheepuff. Jumping dozens of blocks high(I think this was an exaggeration in the OP, right?), puffing out your armor to push other mobs, maybe even slight obstruction of view like that of a pumpkin helmet(but only around the edges, like there is bits of wool in your face. When you're wearing your 'Puff cap, you see normally, but when gliding, you get the wooly border around your face.

I guess it would be possible, but we already have floatsand and Aetherock as potential armor materials. In order to make "sheepuff armor" we'd need a sheepuff specific drop, and it already drops cloth and string.
Anyway, I'm currently working on figuring out the wings for the Phygs. So far the best looking rectangular wing seems to be the turkey vulture of all things. (Obviously the color itself would be altered, but the basic shape and pattern looks like it could be done with just 2 rectangles and still look right both folded and spread.

I can just imagine in multiplayer where you can watch people jump off cliffs and look like they turn into marshmallows!
