Listen, the Aether is another dimension. It may actually be the lowest part of its own planet. A yeti is a mythological entity that lives on Earth. Let it be in the Overworld, but not other dimensions.
I second this motion.
I third this motion.
Again with people gaming up on me and my Yetis? Like I've done before with others, I will disprove your inscolent comments.
1) If you've been paying attention to this thread, you would've seen that it has been discussed that by falling out of the Aether, you fall into the Overworld.
2) It has been confirmed that the Aether is at a high altitude, as there is constantly light and is very cold. Read the very first post.
That disproves your idea of the Aether not being at a high altitude. But I'm not done yet.
3) While Earth and the Overworld are similar, they're not the same. By saying "It belongs on Earth but it's ok to put it in the Overworld" you are contradicting yourself, the Aether is just as different from Earth as the Overworld is.
4) You have not done your research, some people think the reason the Yeti has not been officially discovered is because it was either brought here from another dimension or because it can hop dimensions at will.
Oh, yes, I am listening, dissecting every juicy word you say and pulling out all of your faults.
PROBLEM?

I think you mean people are ganging up on you.
1) If you've been paying attention to this thread, you would've seen that it has been discussed that by falling out of the Aether, you fall into the Overworld.
So obviously, creating a giant staircase in the nether will let you travel back to the Overworld as well? Notch will not allow another DIMENSION to just simply reside above the Overworld.
4) You have not done your research, some people think the reason the Yeti has not been officially discovered is because it was either brought here from another dimension or because it can hop dimensions at will.
So, what stops the yeti from travelling to the Overworld or the Nether at will? Perhaps it should either exist in all dimensions or not exist at all.

While some might argue that Nether is not physically located below the Overworld, and therefor Aether should not be physically above the Overworld, this issue can rendered moot simply by not assuming a physical connection is needed for the player to drop into the Overworld when falling from Aether.
Nothing is confirmed here at all, in fact, it is specifically NOT confirmed. Players can assume the Aether existing above the Overworld, or simply being connected by a giant portal that exists at the bottom of the Aether, and thus having no confirmed elevation relative to the Overworld.
3) While Earth and the Overworld are similar, they're not the same. By saying "It belongs on Earth but it's ok to put it in the Overworld" you are contradicting yourself, the Aether is just as different from Earth as the Overworld is.
The point you're missing is the Yeti is still a land based creature. It should be a native of an area with land as the base(overworld), and it would need to use land travel to get to the Aether, which simply can't be done. If it was a native of the Aether, it should have some mode of travel available to it that is better than just jumping far. even the sheepuff can flat safely if it misses a ledge, and the swets are liquid and probably don't take permanent damage from a fall.
4) You have not done your research, some people think the reason the Yeti has not been officially discovered is because it was either brought here from another dimension or because it can hop dimensions at will.
Now you're just getting ridiculous, and I have no interest in a dimension hopping monkey in the Aether.
Oh, yes, I am listening, dissecting every juicy word you say and pulling out all of your faults.
PROBLEM?
Nope, as long as you don't mind me doing the same.
Hey hey, let's all be friends here. I might suggest taking a break from this topic to relax and gather your thoughts. Remember: yetis, clouds, floaty places in the sky, they're all just imaginary blocks that don't even exist in digital form yet. Nothing worth getting worked up about.
Everyone has their own idea of what would be "cool" and what wouldn't. If you're going to criticize, try and make it constructive and not just bashing. Also, if you're the one receiving the criticism, try and accept it gratefully even if it's nonconstructive or poorly thought out.
I'll be the first to admit that a lot of my ideas are junk. I'll always be the first to criticize my own work and I try to never get too attached to any single idea. In the end, a lot of my bad ideas are weeded out and my good ones are made stronger. I might suggest taking the same approach with proposed ideas for the Aether topic.
Personally, I don't think there should be a Guardian of the Aether, The Nether doesn't have a mob that doesn't want you the alter it, Neither does the Overworld, Just thinks that want to kill you. So far in the Aether, there's things that don't care about you and and things that try to force you into natural hazards. A Monster that directly attacks you wouldn't fit into the theme of things that don't directly harm you.
Secondly, I have a suggestion something that could at as the main liquid for the Aether, but I think if I posted it now it would be buried in the discussion for Yetis.
I have a fix for the "should fall into the Overworld" that some are complaining about. (and it also fits with the otherworldly feel the Aether should have)
You could make it upside down, where the "sky" of the Aether is the overworld and the bottom of the Aether falls into the "sky" of the overworld. (It would look like you were walking on the inside of an egg shell with a lot of pieces missing, with the overworld being the yoke of the egg)
The "day" of the Aether is during the day of the overworld, as they both face the sun passing between them. Then the "Daey" of the Aether is when it separates from the overworld all together, where no portals work and everything is full of light. (this also means no Aether portals on the overworld would work during the nighttime)
This also allows the beginning world to still be considered the overworld as it would still be "above" the Aether. And this also leaves space for a "Moon world" that alternates with the Aether (with a moon world only available in the overworld's nighttime).
So what you think?

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.

From what I understood, the Yetis just are territorial. So it's simply being in the area, not altering it that turns them hostile. You may be getting them confused with Sentries, which are only "guardians" of the individual temples that they are found in, and while they attack you directly, they don't actually HARM you at all, instead merely blinding you and knocking you away from the block you're trying to break.
Secondly, I have a suggestion something that could at as the main liquid for the Aether, but I think if I posted it now it would be buried in the discussion for Yetis.
Cold Cloud was done to make the clouds themselves effectively the "liquid" of the Aether. We've already had suggestions for a liquid that heals, or gives off light, or can be breathed in and possibly a couple other features, and I just didn't really care for any of them.

So what you think?
Not a single thing that you said here serves any useful function.
Having the Aether "upside down" with it above the overworld and the overworld above it does nothing to address the reason behind the complaints. The reason for the complaints is that there is no proof of physical connection between the Nether and the Overworld, so there shouldn't be any proof of that connection between the Aether and the Overworld either.
The reason to have falling from the Aether drop you into the Overworld is NOT to establish a connection, but to allow people to have SOME chance of surviving a fall, seeing as how it is THE PRIMARY method of being harmed in the Aether. It would get SEVERELY frustrating to have absolutely no chance of surviving a single simple misstep.
So your "solution" not only doesn't help both sides, but actually manages to be a detriment to BOTH sides.
As for the "moon world" it doesn't need to alternate between Aether and the Moon. Instead of a door shaped portal for getting to the moon, you instead mine a tunnel straight down to bedrock, put 8-12 crystal in a horizontal square, and fill the square with water, then wait for the moon to pass overhead. When the moon passes overhead the water will be activated to form a portal when you stand in it. The need for water and the moon will keep it from working in the Nether, and the need for Bedrock and the moon will keep it from working in the Aether. More discussion on the topic should probably go to the Mooncraft thread.
I got an idea for cloudy clay: a pot =cloudy clay

This pot can collect water and when poured out the water would stay still and wouldn't expand

Ah, Okay. The word "guardian" made me think "doesn't want you to alter anything". A territorial mob would make sense, and would designate a large area as a hazard, which are the only ways to take damage in the Aether. Also, territoral would be a new form of AI. Peaceful means they never harm you, Hostile means they attack you you no matter what, Neutral means they attack you if you attack them, and Territorial would mean they attack you when you get too close.
Secondly, I have a suggestion something that could at as the main liquid for the Aether, but I think if I posted it now it would be buried in the discussion for Yetis.

I personally think of Cold Cloud as a Semi-tangible block. My idea would be Floatwater:
In the Aether, Floatwater would flow 8 blocks, like water. Except that it would flow up, rather than down.
In The Overworld, Floatwater would flow 16 blocks, still up.
When Floatwater meets Lava, the Lava would turn to Smoothstone
When Floatwater meets Water, the Water would freeze into ice
Since Floatwater can freeze water, it would take heat out of the player's heat meter if/when Notch adds that
Uses:
A way the make ice
Ways to carry mobs, drops, and players up
Increased flow distance in the Overworld
Dangers:
Freezing
Drowning
I originally thought of having Floatwater turn into floatsand when coming into contact with water but I decided against it for 3 reasons:
It doesn't make sense for it to freeze when heated up
Seems a bit overpowered
The properties don't match, flowing up isn't the same as moving in a single direction until stopped by something.
Cold cloud would actually be a little bit more useful than Floatwater. And besides, there would prabably be better places for it to be found.
Okay, I'm going to end my part of the current discussion about the Yetis, after this I will stop talking about it unless I am notifying anyone who is interested about updates in the Yeti thread.
