Cloud - a soft, semitransparent block. You would sink into it a tiny bit while walking on it. Whenever you land on it from a high enough height, it slows you down but doesn't cause fall damage, you can fall through if you're going too fast. When you do, the cloud block fades out and becomes intangible for a time, and you keep falling, or going through other cloud blocks. You can walk through them slowly, but will suffocate if they weren't just fallen through. These will act as platforms to jump from island to island in the nether.
Darkstone - I named it the same as the others cause it fits, I had the idea before, and whether it's nether or aether doesn't matter. It basically spreads out a negative light value, just like lights do. It cools them down, to the point that if fire gets dark enough, it will go out, and water close to this can freeze.
I am certain that NO BODY except me created the idea of Darkstone before this thread and as such I claim full rights for it, however, I do need someone to create maybe a dark gray swirling block to be darkstone.
Also, no body respects my list on the first page of this thread, do they >3>
now, we got that out of the way I promised I was going to add more info about darkstone (and also float stone [refer to my list on page 1 to know of MEIN ideas])
Darkstone is a block that is a swirly dark grey, it has a unique ability that allows it to create a shadowy fog around it for approximately 5x5x5 (the darkstone being in the center). This super stone (as I am now calling it) will spawn naturally in the depths of the Nether, and can be mined with a gold pickaxe only, any other pickaxe will dig through it but nothing will drop. Darkstone will also turn night time on the Overworld into pitch darkness, making it either a secure SMP trap cover (cover traps in this shrouded mess) or just hide the entrance to your base.
Darkstone will also nulify any and all bright light during the daytime in the Aether, making this block essential for travel in the Aether. When combined with lightstone in a crafting table it will create a chaos rune (refer to page 1 for details). It will also reduce damage effects of glass (or crystal) when it comes in direct contact with light.
ALSO, thought, water should be very bright, like you dive and its still light for like 20 blocks worth during the day and around 10 during night, to totally amplify the epicness of this map :>
so remember kids, page 1, my list, I will update it when I create new ones, no copying please but variations are able to be posted, and then checked by all of us :>
why does everyone expect that because the Aether is "heavenly" it automatically IS heaven? notch definitely wont be making it in any resemblance to heaven IF he does make it, so dont go suggesting a "god" mob, you just look silly.

the version I'm plugging in is Wood instead of stone, (we had way too much "stone" stuff even with converting half of it to dirt type) and can be mined by gold, stone, iron or diamond axe, but otherwise, pretty much this. Some of the specific numbers will likely change for balance too. Oh, and it also makes things cold, so darkwood can freeze water into ice.
Darkstone will also nulify any and all bright light during the daytime in the Aether, making this block essential for travel in the Aether.
Not necessarily all, nor will it be essential, just convenient.

Except I have a post in the last thread with darkstone. The name I take absolutely no credit for, but I came up with the idea within a minute of starting reading the last thread.
Ever thought of listing multiple concepts of one block rather than: ITS ALL MEIN!

Never mind that most of my ideas for a floating type rock and it's craftables have been all but ignored. But in truth I don't really care. Their just ideas, and based off of the existing fabric of ideas that exist everywhere. So since I know they are unique ideas(of how it would work, and what is actually workable with minimal effort) I hereby declare all ownership of those ideas null. They now belong to everyone; to share, change, or even take credit for if they so choose.

Here's an idea for either a Mob or just something cool.
From what I have noticed, the Aether's style revolves around, light, weather and it's ability to give a sense of false security. Now, focus on that weather part. Here is a suggestion for either something a yet to be thought of Mob can do, or for a rare phenomenon. Tornados.
Tornados:
A swirling vortex of wind, only visible from the dust swirling around in it. The Tornados can have multiple sizes. These would be very dangerous, as they can suck up certain blocks and objects and even you, hurling them away, possibly off the island if your close enough to the sides.
As I said, they can pick up certain blocks and objects. These include the pieces that are effected by gravity, like Gravel and Sand. They can also pick up blocks, but these blocks need to have been placed by the player, and the heavier the block is, the less chance is of it getting sucked up, as well as the distance between it and the Tornado. They also pick up objects, like torches, chests, etc. The pieces it picks up will either be thrown in a random direction and high velocity (wood), or be ripped apart (sand). They can also rip up smaller trees. And of course, the player can be picked up and whipped around, with their likely hood of that happening being like that of the blocks, judge by the distance and weight of the player. If a Tornado goes over water, it will suck it up, become a Water Spout, and possible draining small bodies of water by taking their source blocks.
These would be devastating, as they can destroy shelters, carry away torches, and even through you off the island or into something hard.
My first big idea in this thread, so I'd appreciate some opinions on it.
EDIT: Might as well suggest the possible Mob that could go with this:
Vortek(plural being Vorteks and being pronounced Vortex)
They would look like a robe and pointed hat floating in Mid-air, but in reality, they are being worn by an invisible Wind spirit. The way they attack is they turn into a mini Tornado. These Tornados are weak are weak and small, only being strong enough to lift blocks like Sand and Gravel, light objects and pull in Players. As I just said, they pull in the player, they don't throw them, but they pull them in and spin them around, hitting them with what they might have picked up, and possibly pulling them towards somewhere dangerous in an attempt to kill them. They can be a Tornado for about 15 seconds, then they have to wait 5 until they can do it again. If they become Water Spouts, they can drown you if you are sucked in, but when they go back to normal form, they still have the water, which makes it possible to collect them in a bucket. They can only be damaged by Golden Weapons.
Now, something interesting, if two Vorteks are a Tornado, and they collide, they merge into a larger, stronger Tornado. They will be able to suck up larger things as they bigger, and they get bigger with each Vortek sucked into it. When a merged Vortek goes back to normal form, they become a larger Vortek, which has more health, and also has a longer time in attack form (increasing by 5 seconds a Vortek), but also has a longer recharge time (increasing by 7 with each Vortek). I can not think of what they can drop, but with each Vortek merged into one, killing it will drop what each one was carrying.
i had forgotten to include icy & snowy patches. Those will be important hazards as well. Lava does solidify, but it's more due to the thin air than a lack of heat.
I like the Tornado, but I'm worried about its affects on Aether. Much of the danger in Aether is supposed to stem from islands consisting mainly of unsupported sand and gravel that are easy to knock loose and fall from. If the tornado rips through, sure it might endanger the player a bit, but it's also all but certain to rip out all the loose and movable blocks out from their positions.
For people to make their own Aether Islands, they'd need a way of placing sand so that it wont fall immediately. Maybe have it possible to make wet sand that can be placed and wont fall, and will eventually become dry sand that will fall once disturbed.
I'm fairly sure that Notch confirmed that the Nether is on a completely separate realm of space from the Main world so they are only connected through portals. So, I think the Aether would have the same case, so you can't have water falling from the Aether into the normal world, or a 2D replica of the normal world. In any case, I'm fairly sure that would be hard to program. I also think that there should be a way to get into space, but definitely not through the Aether or the Nether. Maybe introducing new blocks in both the Aether and the Nether in a space update that allow you to build a launch-pad in a sense to get to the moon. But that's not the point.
I'd rather have there be only one way to get to the Aether, and only 2 ways to get out of it. One is by dying and respawning, and the other is to go through the portal you came in. I'd also make it so that the portal is made out of a material found in the Normal World, that is attributed to light. I like the original idea of a marble gate, that would be cool. In my opinion, using lightstone is a bad decision. I'd rather have the Aether be just of hard a place to live in as the Nether, and have blocks there that are useful to have a good reason to go there. It would also make those who really don't want to go to the Nether happier. I say that because I doubt the number of realms to expand to would go farther than the Nether, Aether, Normal World, Ocean, and POSSIBLY (just possibly) space.
I support the idea of introducing a new block that is abundant in areas near water (preferably 1-2 blocks below sand), such as the chalk introduced earlier. You could get chalk to turn into marble by collecting it (which would take 1 second to mine with diamond) and then putting it in a furnace with only a bucket of lava as the heat source (yes, it is possible to do that now) and it taking 15 seconds to turn into one marble so it is around the same time to get as obsidian is.
You would then make the portal in the same way as your saying and the portal color would be a bright yellow that glows more than the Nether portal at night.
I really think this idea makes more sense than using Lightstone as the portal maker, so it would make the player happier about it, and the Aether would be just as difficult to get stuff in as the Nether, it just has a lighter environment.
Uhmm.. in case my rant got lost.

If we're having the Aetherstone be normal falling speed, it should have a slighty wavering surface texture, to make it possible to spot in time. Whole sneaking to prevent falling through idea is good, but I don't think we should force people to sneak their way through the entire Aether. I still like the gold boots preventing you from falling through.
I also think that it should just be one texture, preferably the normal stone texture, and it would blend in that way.
I had editted my post, so just so you guys see what I added:

@Grey I forgot about that, but I think as you said, maybe pouring water on it could make it mud, blocking the Sand below, and being unable to be sucked up until it dries.

I'd rather have the matching texture, so I'll change the fall speed instead. Is halfway between water & air okay?
Whole sneaking to prevent falling through idea is good, but I don't think we should force people to sneak their way through the entire Aether. I still like the gold boots preventing you from falling through.
I forgot about the gold boots in my rush. I'll get those back in. If your falling speed isn't instant, then I say that even sneaking should let you wander onto it. When wearing gold boots, it'll function like slowsand.
I also think that it should just be one texture, preferably the normal stone texture, and it would blend in that way.
I thought to too, but then I considered that it's main use in "non-aether" would be in creating hidden entrances, so what about people who want to build hidden entrances in dirt or wood or cobblestone? Having the varying texture makes it harder to find harder to recognize, more dangerous, and more importantly it makes it more useful for the player to build with. Plus it sensibly integrates the aspects of the copy block without needing another new block.

That's true. I can't think of how to help with that that'd make sense.
I'm also happier with a slightly slower fall speed and no way to tell it's Aetherstone.
Being slowed a bit like slowsand while wearing the gold boots makes a lot of sense.
Aetherrock change appearance makes sense, I just worry about issues like what used to happen with stair blocks where they pointed the wrong way and you'd get frustrated trying over and over again to trick it into doing what you wanted. Meh, it could be done well.
No, you just sink into it like Slowsand, it doesn't slow you down, or at least I wasn't planning on it doing that. It might be worth doing, but I wanted to make the Aetherstone as hard to find (without falling through it) as possible.
Since it's not meant to have it's texture reset after its initial placement, and it only has a texture, and not a direction, the changing appearance aspect shouldn't be an issue.

I'm not sure i walked in on this at the right time, but I think this might be a bit absurd. These Aetherstone blocks would need a blank texture for when they go in your inventory, so stacking isn't an issue. Then have them immediately adopt the texture of the blocks nearby them, majority ruling->least valuable. But when these blocks are mined away, it would retain its placed texture. In theory, if one performed it properly, you could make false TNT blocks, it would just require some careful water and TNT placement. This could also mean hidden passages behind bookcases!
Edit: Wait, did I just explain the same thing you were saying?
Instead of having the mimic effect copy nearby blocks, have it copy a block that you hit it with.
For example: you left click it with a diamond block in your hand and it mimics a diamond block.
other items that do not produce blocks will convert it to mimicking air, and hitting it with things like diamond or iron will cause it to mimic the ore block . When found naturally it will mimic air.
The concept of making it mimic air will create invisible walls, creating a lot of confusion when you randomly bump into one. All you have to do to reveal it would be to hit it with glass or something (where it would mimic the glass). The "cracks" formed when mining something will show up on it even if it mimics air.

For example: you left click it with a diamond block in your hand and it mimics a diamond block.
other items that do not produce blocks will convert it to mimicking air, and hitting it with things like diamond
The concept of making it mimic air will create invisible walls, creating a lot of confusion when you randomly bump into one. All you have to do to reveal it would be to hit it with glass or something (where it would mimic the glass). The "cracks" formed when mining something will show up on it even if it mimics air.
