Sorry for double posting, but here is a mockup of a kind of "Venus Flytrap" Esque mob:
Note that this is WIP, and doesn't yet have proper base leaves (they are just planes for now, but next they will look like proper leaves)

Now that is a cool plant.... but its more of a mob now isn't it?

Yeah, its supposed to be. Perhaps some kind of rare occurrence where during chunk generation it plops down a group of these. They could drop something useful that can be used to tame animals in the Aether. I honestly have no clue, but I was pretty damn bored.
Edit: Perhaps they can drop Aether Leaves () that can be used to craft an assortment of things. w

I like Cloudy Clay so that it can drop a clay like substance that can be used for many crafts
just about anything it would be useful for in crafting, you could just replace with aetherock in the recipe and still have it make sense.

That's adorable. Personally though, I say make it a bit darker and stick it in the Nether.

I have one suggestions here.
First is simply to reach this place via cannon. Hop in a cannon, light it up, and get blasted into the sky.
Twilight Princess reference/ rip off anyone?
When the hell did I write that? I can't recall EVER suggesting cannons as a means of transporting the player, while I CAN recall a number of times that I opposed such a suggestion.
I just made a Huge post about something like this and then I found this thread... so my 1 hour of typing is now in vain but at least I know someone is thinking on the same lines as me.
Here are some of the basic ideas that I had for the Generic Cloud Block, let me just edit it a bit.
And just so you know this is how I will represent cloud blocks -
Cloud Blocks
So for starters cloud block are only counted as a stable platform if there is another cloud block beneath or above them if another cloud is not beneath them then then the player falls through them.
Solid Block --> <---- Not Solid
Solid Block -->
While on a Cloud Block the players speed is increased by 25%
These blocks and only be placed on Aether Blocks or Empty Air Blocks, If your cursor is not on an Aether block then the block will be placed one space in the direction you are facing, including diagonal. The Cloud Block can not have contact with any non-Aether blocks and if there is a non-Aether block above it in the Y-axis it will break and return to a collectible resource. (This is so that they can't be used underground)
Like Water, Cloud blocks reduce any incoming light by a factor of 2. They also reduce speed by 30% if walked through while in a non solid state. And yes this does include Y-axis speed.
Cloud Block rules in Pictures-
<---- NO!
<--- Won't Work
<--- Still No
[] [] [] [] [] [] [] <--- YES!~
[] [] <--- Speed UP!
<--- Slow Down
So what are the points of these blocks? Why should you get them?! For starters they are a quick and cheap way to make a fast track above ground to get from place to place. Using something like Minecarts to get somewhere takes up a lot of Iron which can take a lot of time to mine and using the Nether can be dangerous and unpredictable. But mining clouds is easy because they are abundant and don't take much to mine. Also Clouds can be used in junction with Slow Sand to create even more efficient ways to slow down enemy mobs for traps or when trying to make a quick get away. Also with new bricks comes new recipes. Here are a few that I've thought up.
]" title="-<->" /> [] ]" title="-<->" /> = Hermes' Treads (No Armor Bonus but +20% to run speed)
= Light Loaf (Works the same as bread but stackable up to 3)
]" title="-<->" /> Saddle ]" title="-<->" /> = Pigs Fly (Works like a Normal Saddle but the pig will now jump twice as high)
I guess you basically have the Flying Pigs already, but oh well.
So feel free to use any of that or just ignore it, either way.

Search box would have saved us a$$
You don't have to be a jerk.
I think what he's saying is he paid someone mass quantities of "a$$" (probably because he had a similar idea), and is with you on feeling regret of not initially using the search box.
On a serious note, keep that **** to yourself gerton. The guy is trying to contribute.
*edit
You apologized before I managed to hit post.
Well, I'm still gonna leave this up, just know I no longer think less of you for the prior "assault".
On a contributory note, I think Jesus Pig should be a rarespawn phyg (Like Rider Skeletons). Complete with Golden Apple and Yellow Aura.
Jesus Pig WILL rise again, and his second coming will be the day you enter the Aether.

It's adorable! However, it doesn't seem to fit with the Aether... so we need to change that. Any ideas?

It seems to fit quite well. I can imagine this guy staring at you while in a nice green valley next to a mountain.

I could make it seem Aether like color-wise. Perhaps Instead of a stem It could have clouds that it floats on (so the only way to harvest its leaves is to fly with something)
Again, a double post
Here is a new rendition of the Venus Flytrap like mob:
As you can tell, the alpha on its leaves (which are now feather-leaves. Whatevah.) isn't working in Blender 2.5. Anyone here know how to render with alpha?
On another note, does this better suite the Aether?

On another note, does this better suite the Aether?
This latest rendition just made me think of something:
Original green colour scheme:
- Found in jungle biomes. Stationary.
- Will attack if approached too closely.
- Will drop an item sometimes on death.
- No other special abilities.
Aether colour scheme:
- Found in the Aether.
- Will attack if approached too closely.
- Will drop an item sometimes on death.
- Special: It can uproot itself and fly (poor mobility) by spinning it's lower leaves like a propeller. Can only attack while planted though and switching modes takes a few seconds during which it's vulnerable to attack. The floating/flying ability helps allows the species to follow prey, procreate and spread in the cloud environment.

That does sound really cool but it kinda goes against the whole, "no mobs directly attacking you thing"... This thing can chance you down and kick you butt.... >_>

Anyways, yeah, I forgive you, but it's not my place to do so.
I'm starting to derail the topic. Back to the shadows I go.
Sooo, those vines, those are cool things they are, naturally growing ladders
You make a vine farm and you get infinite ladders :biggrin.gif:
however they will pop off when shot with an arrow and they cannot be placed every second block (like many do with normal ladders)
maybe they require a certain block to be placed on
man, these natural ladders have gotten me all excited
