What I meant was, I thought a Boar would be cool, but as it is Aggressive, it would be out of the question, thus, if it were to be another kind of pig, it should just be a subspecies of domestics pigs.
I was rushing to respond to that, so yeah. I have actually suggested Bulls, Boars, Rams, and Roosters as sort of "Herd Guardians" that would occasionally spawn with a cluster of Cows, PIgs, Sheep, and Chickens respectively and attack you if you attacked any of the mobs in that herd.
If we really need Phygs to look different from Pigs, why not just simply make it a black pig? or perhaps a deeper red or something? Either way, the wings sort of give it away. It's not like the Sheepuffs, where they'd look like regular sheep when not inflated.
Ok, so if it were a black pig, naturally the wing colour would be the same? Also, I disagree with you about the Wings of Duck's Phyg model looking like items, and I say the rectangular wings don't look like wings at all, which is kind of why I thought Duck's was a step in the right direction.

Take a look for yourself:
WoD's models use voxels(3d pixels) to make up the wings. That is the system through which ITEMS are displayed, like a sword or a bow or a bucket, or a piece of grilled meat, and NOT how mobs are done. Mobs are comprised of BLOCKS. Personally, if you feel the wings of the current mockup for the Phyg looks too much like jet wings, then just extend the length of the wing and give it a joint in the middle.

Very interesting, has talked about this at all, or are we just hoping the Aether will make it in at some point?
I think we're effectively trying to bully him into it through sheer massive post/view count and excess of awesome features and coherent theme.
Well, that is sort of how things get added. If a large amount of the games community want something added, it is the game makers obligation to add it, or face the wrath of the community.

I see, but I still feel that they shouldn't just be rectangles. And I do now notice what you meant by them being in the middle of the Phyg's back, but that could be fixed easily.
i don't know if i'm doing this right >< first post and all, but as a dumb suggestion i think that this realm should have some of the regular elements to, the neather seems very simple, shouldn't its opposite be the opposite, sand grass, and clay would all fit this area beautify, sorry if this has been addressed before, theres like 29 ( OVER 9000! ) pages and i could only read a few before i wanted to post. anyways, i hope this makes the game, i'll keep my eye open. good luck.
well, as long as you read the first post, you should be covered, and I'm pretty sure that what you want(If I'm correct in assuming you want Aether to have normal blocks from the overworld, and not just specialty blocks specific to the Aether) is where the current idea for the Aether is already headed.

sounds perfect haha, i'll read the rest of the topic now i guess >.> i don't wanna look silly spouting ideas that everyone already knows.
That wouldn't really address the issue that they're being done in voxel style that is used for items instead of as solid blocks that fit the style of minecraft's other mobs.
I would like the aether to be an area above the regular land that is reached by an airship or by getting on a massive mountain and building up to it. I would really like it to be part of the regular world.
This would allow things like blocks occasionally falling from the aether.
also, if the floating islands are entities that are made at least partially of some kind of floating material, then a mid-air collision could cause the islands to come plummeting down to the overworld if the floating blocks are removed.
Another advantage of it residing above the overworld would be the possibility of aether creatures occasionally coming down, such as my balloon lizard, which has the essential thing you need to construct airships.

The only thing that would "fall" in the aether would be sand, which can be found in the overworld anyway. None of the blocks that are Aether specific are affected by gravity, they float for the same reason that all the other blocks in minecraft float.

Aether mobs could be allowed to come down into the overworld simply by having rare chances of ether specific mobs spawning at high altitudes. There's no reason that the Aether needs to be physically connected to the Overworld for this to happen.
Wow, this suggestion has gone far! I'm really hoping this gets implemented!
But anyway, now down to business. Seeing how somebody made it so you could make an "Aether Portal" from dirt and fire, I was thinking there should be a full fledged mod for this. It's a little out there, but we could send it to the Java API thats being added in Beta. We already have models for most of the blocks and mobs, and if we could find someone who is a coder (Not me, of course. I can't code!) we could actually make this happen. There is somebody who is good at coding mobs, and I hope he would work with us (Link to his thread: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=86929) . Just an Idea....

Actually, in one of his latest Development blogs (Two Days Ago, actually...) Notch has implied that the Aether will be in the game by Beta (maybe)

The skies are trembling, pigs are growing wings, and the nether is turning awfully cold, as Minecraft slowly crawls out of Alpha..
Although he states Nether in there, it still is a similar dimension TO the Nether, so it might be separate =D I dunno about y'all, but I'm taking that phrase as "Wait for a week. Aether is comin'!"
