I'm probably not going to use lightstone either, maybe marble.
Also, I forgot to mention that you still have to use fire to create the portal, as fire symbolizes both danger and safety. Nether mobs could just attack the portal as soon as they see it.
(Actual reason: There's no BlockWater, which would handle it the same way that the fire would.)

Shouldn't it use a BUCKET of water? Why does it need a block of water? I had assumed it just checked to see if it was hit by the right item instead of actually checking for water.

I just realized, the Zephyr and Swets don't have any drops yet. What do you think they should be?
Slime/Ice/spawns a block of water where it dies for the Swet, and the Zephyr would drop a songstone block.
Also, the portal itself should be either yellow or light blue.
Essence of water: Water pendant (Keeps you from burning, limited durability-chest armor.
Water enchantment for tools (Normal speed underwater) and armor (increased O2)
Essence of wind: Windstone (Pushes mobs away)
Wind enchantment for tools (Normal speed when climbing/jumping/swimming/falling) and armor (Lower fall damage, boots increase jump height to 2 blocks)
Let me know if you need anything. Also let me know if you figure out how to add creatures to the game. I'll provide the texture maps as well as 3d specs on each creature you want to add.

Doesn't fit with Minecraft very well, that's more of something from an RPG. Some ideas of things they could drop:
Zephyr:
Songstone
Zephyr Lung:
A Zephyr Lung would be able to be used in a Boat or Cart to increase or decrees speed. The Zephyr Lung (when in a living Zephyr) gives them the ability to inhale large amounts of air, and exhale them in a gust of wind. When not in it, squeezing releases the air that would be in it when it died, creating a gust of wind. It could be used to push enemies away, or if released backwards in a boat or cart would increase the speed greatly, but releasing forward would slow you down, allowing for emergency stops if necessary. Similar to durability, it would have the air inside of it, so it wouldn't rely on how many uses, but rather, how long it was used in those uses. It could be crafted with a cart or boat fire a limited version of a powered mine cart, but that you could ride in, or a kind of speed boat.
Swets Normal:
Nothing, but maybe when it dies it should turn into a Water Source Block.
Swets Frozen:
Ice ball:
Like Snowball, but deals damage. It can also disorientate a hit enemy for a second or two. Maybe it drops multiple ones.
Icicle:
Like the Iceball but more damage and without the disorientation. Can also be used as an arrow tip.
Swets Blood:
Swets Blood would act like Liquid Nitrogen freezing anything it touches. You can cover weapons with it that would slow down enemies, or cause prolonged damage. If you just hit an enemy with it (not a weapon covered with it), they freeze completely.
So if notch added horses, pegasus would then be derivative? Besides, no one ever said anything about everything in the Aether being completely unique, just that it's not directly hostile.
Hmmm, I didn't think of that. Sorry about that last post, more so a fancy way of saying no to the pigs. However, once seen as a custom render, I grew to liking the idea.
Will the bedrock-type of block be clouds or will you be able to fall to your death if you dig down far enough?
While I agree with the 50 or so people that suggested Lightstone for the portal when it's already been decided, I think to activate the portal should be a little more difficult.
For example:
Kill a ghast and it will drop 0-2 Helium Concentrate (these give the ghast the ability to float).
Once the Helium Concentrate is collected (you'll need 2 to activate the portal; so you'll have to kill 1-2 ghasts), you then have to toss the concentrate into the 2 fires you placed into the Lightstone portal for the portal to be useable!
or, if you want water to activate the portal...
Use the crafting bench to combine a bucket of water with the Helium Concentrate.

Coal = Concentrate ; Water = Bucket of Water
Tell me if you think something like that would be good or not.
(btw tl;dr all of it. will get right on that so excuse me if i sound stupid in this post or anything)

Alternative:
It has been proposed that with an inclusion of Airships, they should be the primary means of accessing the Aether. This method is more plausible, but depends on airships, or at least Hot Air balloons, being implemented. I also feel this makes the Aether too accessible too early on (depending on how easily craftable hot air balloons are, but they shouldn't require too many difficult to acquire pieces) Further issues with this are that it also depends on Aether existing explicitly above the Overworld, which is still up in the air.(no pun intended)
Even if implemented, it should still be done alongside Aether Portals to retain parallel attributes between Nether and Aether.
Implement my Helium Concentrate idea that you get from Ghasts so the player must go to the Nether!
add dragons
they protect the aether
as you enter the aether you don't notice there there but when you take a block you start to notice them circling you in the sky.
you take to many blocks or kill anything in the aether you get attacked untill you leave.
just think it as the guardian of the aether that is generally peaceful and shows amazing grace when flying in the sky.
also the blocks that you take could be one of the rarer blocks you can aquire in the aether.

He said earlier this is just a test...
I know that, but I just thought it would look nicer...

By balance, do you mean make it totally worthless?

I'm sure as soon as all the testings done it will be changed to lightstone! :smile.gif:
and also, would it be a good idea to make the portal out of brick?

I vote light blue, given that portal starter is likely going to be water based.
where are you doing it?
where will it "Hapen?"

(And I'm STILL THINKING.
Makes more sense then green, since I don't think there is anything really green in the Aether
Also, I finally checked the OP and thank you for putting the rubber and sticky gravel ideas in
And the banner looks excellent :biggrin.gif:
Anyway, keep up the good work guys o3o
only do it if you want, I am not worried, also is it possible you can give me the banner code? It doesnt seem to be on the OP
