Hrmm... I was originally going to say no, but it might be useful for having SOME method of telling Aetherock apart from the block it's mimicking without it being too obvious. Essentially the texture would be exactly the same, but if it had a torch on the other side, the light from the torch would act as if the Aetherock was just a regular air block.
also, I am thinking maybe instead of rubber, a springy natural block found in the nether which launches mobs who touch it, it would launch them very high, and it will almost certainly cause death on the way down (unless you land on the spring block)
also, it can be safely mined from the side, without standing on it, but it would spawn in groups near lava making it hard to mine
it would be some sort of sticky block that would not allow you to jump
found in the aether (or nether) to hinder you're exploration, it would most definitely become a pain when you are trying to jump to the next isle but this block is sitting there halting your progress
it would spawn naturally in groups of around 10, and can be mined with a normal pickaxe (about the same as dirt)
found on the surface of the islands, and its light brown in colour
I guess its use would most likely be traps, to stop enemies jumping up
(* - not sure if this has been suggested anywhere before)

This confuses me... It's 'mined with a normal pickaxe' (Wood?) but is 'about the same as dirt'. So it is stone in how hard it is to break but when put up against explosives, lava, and the like, it is like dirt?

I think he means shovel.
Or he means pickaxe (doesn't have to be gold), but mines as fast as dirt.
Suggestion to your suggestion: It is usually found at the edges of islands.
yeah, I meant pickaxe but it would mine as fast as dirt with ALL pickaxes, so it doesnt matter, and at the sides makes more sense (its meant to be a very brittle rock)
also, maybe the sticky block allows to to stick sand on it without it falling, example:
Just a small little suggestion, I say that pressure plates should be able to be placed on walls and possible ceilings, and that floatsand could activate it. Of course, there'd need to be some way to keep the floatsand from being pushed away by the plate it's activating...
ETA:
I also suggest that if you put ladders on quicksoil, anything, player or mob, will be accelerated when climbing it. Of course, you can take damage from hitting your head, say twice the damage/speed ratio for falling. So if you hit your head at the same speed you would be falling if you'd been falling for 4 blocks, you'd take 1 full heart of damage, rather the the .5 hearts of damage you would have taken had you been falling.
This makes sense in my head, if you don't understand I can find a better way to explain.
sorry if this allready been menchined but i thought you guys should know.
really because you could get some ideas from all the zombie maps particually kino
and maybe have an enemy mob that steals from you like the scientist guy on FIVE
While a mob that steals from you would be cool and fit the passive aggressive theme that the Aether has been going for so far, and I've even suggested one elsewhere, why would I use Call of Duty for ideas? Call of Duty didn't come up with the Aether, they're just using it as the term for a specific thing in their games.
i'm just saying.
when i first saw the word aether i automatically thought about Zombies easter eggs.
since i'm such a zombie fan in general i thought it would be cool to see a freaky dimension with weird places that pop up when i teleport to the nether and might even cause the passive mobs you kill to come back to life with the sole purpose of killing you.
i do see how you couldn't take ideas from COD considering the aether in greek mythology is the upper area including heaven and Zombies in COD was very dark.
but now thinking about it whats the point of going to the aether?
Oh god... just... read the opening post. If all those specialty blocks and mobs, the Daey/day light cycle, and huge floating islands surrounded by open sky aren't enough to satisfy you, then you're beyond my help; you'll just have to get used to living in complete dissatisfaction, or take bitter spiteful solace in the idea that notch will possibly never implement anything even remotely resembling this.

Hey guys, guess what this stuff is?
It looks like you recolored sand to fit my description of floatsand?
Blargh. I guess I should have posted a video instead.
The fact is, that IS floatsand. When you right click on it, it moves. Not accurately, but it moves. And it doesn't replace the original sand.

A mod then? Impressive.
Anyways, I've been watching this thread since it has been started, and I must say, you all are very creative people. I would love to have another realm to explore eventually. So yes, I think I will support these ideas :biggrin.gif:
Just wondering...
I'll mull over it a bit more.

That one has been answered before; yes, Aetherock should be able to mimic other Aetherock provided that Aetherock has already had its texture set.
