not if you can use the item to control them whether you are riding them or not, like using the fishing rod to throw bait around and reel it back in as the mob wanders near it.
why bother crafting the reins with the saddle? just right click on the mob with the saddle and reins separately. Personally though, I jut think that Pigs should require being baited with the fishing rod while riding them, and horses could be tamable enough so that you could ride them with just the saddle. (or perhaps the horse will automatically be tamed if you feed them an apple)
Two Scoops, just give up. I'm with Grey on this one; controllable pigs just isn't going to happen unless they're implemented in a jokey fashion; The point of saddled pigs in the first place was as a joke. I suggest you either get Mo' Creatures Mod, or start campaigning for FireHazurd's Moas if you want proper mounts.
Then Notch should just remove saddles because they are useless. Requiring two items to do one thing is moronic. More is less here.
I think pigs should be controllable because they would make a unique mount to Minecraft. Horses are overused and boring.
Did I do something wrong here? I just suggested that instead of using portals made out of lightstone found in the Nether, you could use a regular cannon to make Aether more accessible and less of a mythical-type realm and more just a fantasy of floating rocks. And wouldn't using cannons be building on game mechanics that actually exist?
And I'm confused as to what that first part is about entirely.
I think what he is saying is that you would build a TNT cannon out of blocks (not thru crafting) like this.
I had an idea, there was a thread about a sky dimension (completely unrelated to the Aether) and that person had some interesting ideas about it(Here's a link), what if there was a land between the bottom of the Aether and the top of the Overworld called the Edgelands? That would be pretty awesome.

The Isles, an arctic Sky Dimension that should be used along with the End.
I approve of this, though i think that maybe as with the nether being 1 block of movement = 8 blocks in the overworld maybe 8 blocks in the aether = 1 block in the overworld?

I noticed the screenshot of the Aether looks a bit ... gloomy, and dark. There should be a custom shader that makes all colors appear brighter while in the Aether.

It's the same concept as with horses.

They're both animals with saddles. Close enough for a videogame.
Having a mount that wanders around aimlessly is useless. Having to craft an additional item to control them is pointless.
You could sit on a pig while it runs around without a saddle. The saddle should at least do something worthwhile.

and then you do this
I think that would be the best way to make it.

e.g.
1 Nether block = 8 Overworld blocks
1 Overworld block = 8 Aether blocks
So therefore
1 Nether block = 64 Aether blocks
I like this idea...
I know its old but...
I am happy i have found another that references the fonzy :'D
