I dislike the number of blocks this thing is using. Most minecraft mobs reduce the limbs to a single segment, and you've got 3. You may want to take a look at the Pigasus mockup on the front page for wings that aren't as complex. Also, the entire pheonix itself consists of some 18 blocks; with the body using 6, each wing using 3, and the tail using 4.
Even the Wolf, which is one of the most complex mobs currently in minecraft, has 11 blocks total, but 5 of those are limbs if you include the tail(non-limb blocks =6). The chicken, another avian mob, only uses 8 blocks.(non-limb blocks =4) The Spider uses 10, but 8 of those are due to the number of limbs it has (non-limb blocks =2) The ghast has 10 total, but 9 of those are essentially limbs (non-limb blocks =1)
There's got to be a way to reduce that down. Maybe take the tail and reduce it from one main block with 3 streamers to only having 3 flatter tail feather-ish blocks. Reduce the body and "butt" segment into a single block, and maybe even reduce the head and neck into a single block that the beak and head frill thing rotate around. to make it look like it's turning its head. You could also skip giving it legs if it was the type of mob that never landed and only ever flew. and you could reduce the wings to only 2 segments like what I did with the Pigasus. At that point your total block count would be reduced to 11.
B.t.w - no comments on the SunStone, Light Gem and other assorted ideas?
i just don't like them. A lot of those recipes just come across as only doing a specific purpose that could be better handled and more balanced to handle through different blocks.
The idea of a freezing beam is silly, the light beam itself can already be created by crystal and takes more effort to set up (so is more balanced as far as I'm concerned) and on top of that you're proposing that the beam extends 64 blocks(that's almost halfway across the entire loaded map)
I dislike the idea of using Netherraze with an Aether material (especially since one of the things you propose for that material is that tools made from it can destroy nether blocks outright instead of mining them) The 10% setting enemies on fire is something Raze tools already do, but being more likely to set Nether mobs on fire wont do much since most of them are resistant to catching on fire or taking fire damage anyway, plus the recipe is strange, sunsteel, Netherraze and IRON? why? Why not just use a bone and 2 sun steel?
i know some of these are rather weak reasoning to turn down the idea, but I just don't like it as it stands.
Yeah, it uses more blocks than a standard MC mob. But, standard MC mobs are generated in larger numbers. There is never supposed to be more than 1 phoenix on a map (well..maybe 2 if the player manages to summon one), so I figured one can get away with using a few more blocks. Yes, I can reduce the wings to 2 blocks..
the tail? The 3 long feathers/tails are iconic for a phoenix IMHO, so I don't see how can I do i with less than 3 parts....except maybe one really long block with a lot of use of transparency...
It's not an issue of graphics. It's an issue of compatible styles. Once your block count gets too complicated it stops feeling like it belongs in minecraft. As for your tail, What I'm saying is get rid of the the main tail section that the 3 streamers are attached to and widen (and lengthen) the streamers to make up for the block that would be getting taken out.

Meh...blocky enough IMHO. Looks Minecrafty to me.
NOTE: Size of phoenix? I always thought it rather large, gigantic even...
It looks nothing like the Minecraft mobs in my opinion. Use less blocks.
You're welcome to submit your own proposal on it's looks if you don't like my mockup. It's still a WIP anyway.
It really should have its own thread anyway. As it stands, I'm not seriously considering adding it to the list as an "Aether mob" and many of the aether mobs that are on the list already have their own thread.
Part of the requirement for something being added was "It must be a sustainable idea on it's own. Thus it should have a surviving thread of it's own."
That was more of a litmus test than an actual requirement. Heck, the Swets, Sheepuffs, and Pigasus never got their own thread. My issue here is more that the idea isn't meant to be limited to only the Aether, and I'm adding it to the Opening post as it is, so it really doesn't have any further business being discussed in this thread. At the same time I don't think the concept is bad, so it would probably be better for the idea itself if it had its own thread.
eh cant say im a huge fan. i agree that there should be an anti nether world, but i dont really like this one. i like the mobs made by firehazerd as well as the sheepuffs. and the wind blocks are cool too as well as the crystal trees. however if your gonna do an aether i think it should just be normal day all the time like the nether is dark all the time, the islands should maybe look like clouds. everything should be white and blue. and i dont like how your making the portal out of something from the nether. marble is definitly a better idea.
Basically, it lacks lightning because that would be directly damaging to the player.
Also, your sword image is too large. 16x16 pixels is the standard. Don't use the large square to figure out your maximum proportions, use the small ones.
Seems really cool, but really, if its going to be floating, can't there be more special types of transportation that you can take back with you, that would be SICK!

So? Aether is "sky, clouds...heavenly" . Not non-damaging.
Wrong.

"The Ether (AntiNether Dimension, Pleasant does NOT = "Safe")"
From the OP (An attribute of the Aether):
"Passive:
There will actually be few, if any, directly hostile mobs. This does not mean the Aether is at all safe, but merely that the danger present stems mostly from natural hazards or mobs that are indirectly dangerous (more on them later as well) Currently the only active threat to the player is the passive aggressive Zephyr who will attempt to blow the player off cliffs/ledges, and the Swet that will try to drown the player or drag them off cliffs/ledges"
So long as Grey controls this thread, you're not going to get any direct damage into the suggestion.
This isn't a mod, and the OP doesn't officially endorse the mod.
So you're barking up the wrong tree.
