That's one of the most unique explanations for the moon I've ever read. Kudos to you for that, but alot of that idea made even less sense than Minecraft portals. Why would you warp to the moon and further more why would telepads exist on the moon?
This only raises further questions.
As I said, it's not really a "moon" it's a giant enemy mob spawner, and the telepads are the input side of where the enemies come from the mob spawners that are found in dungeons (of course that still doesn't explain where the mobs that are on the "moon" come from)
Oh and to be honest I don't want those things to be completely answered. I just want everything to make sense. I want more intrigue and I want Notch to make me work for the intrigue. I don't want Notch to try to pull the "you're the first inhabitant in this land" plot. It just isn't true and there should be more evidence to be discovered like runes or slabs or artifacts that would hint towards the more logical answer.
Itis things like that that would not explain the history, but give us a little more than random things that just barely make sense with anything. I would like to build with blocks that look like they have ancient writing on them. That would be so much cooler than moss stone. We should be able to build our own realistic ruins, but the building options are so limited.
It can be so much more than what it is now.
I just generally disagree with this. I LIKE the idea that I might very well be the very first "human" life that planet, or at least general area, has ever seen. However i also like the POSSIBILITY that maybe there was some sort of cataclysm that wiped out all traces of civilization, and I've simply yet to find it.
Having those possibilities open and unconfirmed is far better than confirming one side and completely shutting down the others. All it does is restrict what story I can decide is happening
So the fact that chests exist in dungeons and cobble forms perfectly square room like structures isn't proof enough that something was there before? Why do zombie pigmen have gold swords? What was Notch's thought process when he gave zombie pig men swords and put them in the Nether? Wouldn't that be a nod that pigmen might be the race that inhabited the area before you came along.
He is toying with the ideas of pigmen villages. Whether this will only be in Adventure mode remains to be seen.
Edit: Humans don't have to be the first inhabitants. It probably will be much weirder than that.

As I propose it, the chests in dungeons are actually related to the Mob spawners being in dungeons that originally came from the Giant Enemy Spawner that is the moon. (basically, chests came through the same way the mob spawner came in)

You should check out the New Nether thread, as I actually proposed that the Pigmen were not inhabitants of the Overworld at all, but inhabitants of the Nether.
Pigmen were originally a proud race that acted as lords of the Nether and had built entire kingdoms. At their peak, every Pigman carried tools of Netherraze, BloodGems, and perhaps even Obsidian and Netherrack or SoulGlass tools that used crafting recipes that have since been lost to time. These tools, combined with the PIgmen's numbers, were the strength that allowed them to lord over even the most dangerous beasts of the Nether.
However Pigmen had a weakness; their pride... and their greed.
When Midas Tears were discovered, the Pigmen found themselves unconsciously and irresistibly fond of the color and luster it brought to their tools and items. Soon the pigmen sacrificed every tool they had, each individual pigman was certain that his tool wouldn't make that big of a difference to the might of their race.
But soon nearly every tool the Pigmen race had built was now useless gold, unable to be used even to mine new Netherraze and Gloomwood, and too weak to kill more enemies for the bones and bloodgems. Their civilization fell to ruins, and with its fall the wills of the Pigmen were crushed completely. Without their confidence and determination, the pigmen race was eventually warped over time to the Zombie Pigmen that exist now. They still covet their gold tools, but some rare Zombie Pigman will stumble across a relic of Netherraze or Blood Gem and use it to lord over his small clan and act as chieftain.
In both of these cases, I have a very specific backstory, but absolutely none of it requires any type of supporting evidence that ties that down as the only explanation. (even if midas tears wasn't implemented, you could still say that Zombie Pigmen gathered all of the gold already present in the Nether in their lust for it, which is why they have gold tools even though there's no gold to be found in the Nether)
I enjoyed reading that. But for that to be believable, there would just need to be gold in the Nether. They couldn't have mined it all when the Nether goes on indefinitely. And why only swords? And where is the remains of this "kingdom"? There is no way they didn't leave anything behind in a realm that doesn't have weathering effects.
And how can chests be a natural result of a giant mob spawner? Also are you trying to sell me dungeons came to the world from the moon and they remained largely intact. Are these things spaceships or something? Or are you suggesting the spawners themselves warped into their final resting places?
How is this more realistic than just believing that pigmen based a primitive civilization and crafted mob spawners as tools of war against their enemies tribes. The dungeons were places to protect their stuff. This would explain why CDs and saddles are found in dungeons. These are remnants of the pigmen of long ago, who now rest inthe Nether. (The Nether probably isn't a symbol of Hell, but death.) The Aether would throw this idea out the window and indicate the opposite.

1) As I pointed out, you should check out the New Nether, in which zombie Pigmen get updated for other tools than just swords, and Midas Tears are added which can turn items to Gold, and 2) while the Nether might go on forever, theoretically so did the Pigmen empire, so even without midas tears it could be believable that the pigmen got ALL of it, and the Nether is a dangerous place, so it makes sense that the sword would be the most important tool for them to make.
And how can chests be a natural result of a giant mob spawner? Also are you trying to sell me dungeons came to the world from the moon and they remained largely intact. Are these things spaceships or something? Or are you suggesting the spawners themselves warped into their final resting places?
No, the Dungeon is a result of the impact from the Spawner itself dropping off and impacting Minecraft Overworld, and when the mobs come through the spawner, it's also possible for the chest to come through with them.

It's not an issue of being more realistic, it's an issue that it doesn't need to add anything to support those possibilities. My proposed possibility works perfectly fine right now, and doesn't require anything to be present that would conflict with your proposed possibility. That's the entire point; leaving possibilities open.
Your idea seems to indicate that the Nether is the main world and the overworld isn't even important to the story. That's like saying that the main plot is a side quest in the game. Besides pigmen villages aren't going to be in the Nether. So I don't know how much longer you will be able to keep that story true.
The point is, the "stories" I'm proposing can work now without requiring any new features, though admittedly some require a bit of a stretch, but they don't interfere with your ability to believe that Minecraft has some other civilization that existed before you came around.
You're asking for specific additions (like rune slabs and whatnot) that, even if they don't explain specifics, still make it absolutely unquestionable that SOME sort of civilization existed before you got there. (and don't bring up pigmen. Notch said he was going to put dragons in, but I've yet to see those either, don't speculate on things that are already speculation themselves)
And your comment about the nether being the main world doesn't make sense. A story that happened isn't the same as a story that is happening. The story that is happening is the main world, that's why the other stuff is called backstory.
My point was that there shouldn't be a super elaborate backstory in the Nether if there is a very shallow story in the main world. Oh and Notch confirmed dragons the same time he confirmed wolves. We just have to wait a bit.
About the pigmen, I think he is adding them to Adventure Mode, which wont happen until near the end of Beta. He referred to them as NPC pigmen villages I think.
The entire Nether update thread requires a lot of extra things to be believable. I just want rare runes I can discover that I can use to make monuments, or ruins with. These things are non-descript. I mean there are no resources in the Nether. It is less believable that the inhabitants lived there and not the green overworld.
Besides my original plans for the runes included hiding them in the Aether and the Nether. That way people would have a good reason to go to both. People like searching for rare items. They would jump all over that.
Notch's main opposition to adding mods is "it isn't the style I want for MineCraft". Notch has a very unique style. Creepers, ghasts, zombie pigmen, are not something in traditional fantasy.
Yes, and wolves, zombies, skeletons, spiders, fishing...
More on topic, since there are wolves in the over-world and possibly grim-hounds in the new nether, what's their Aether equivalent? May I suggest some kind of large bat or flying-squirrel?
since when does a semi-equivalent mob between 2 dimensions require it on all 3?
I like the Aether ALL over but the idea of having to get 90 sulfur to make it to the Aether and 36 for the corners if terrifying, if i may suggest a way to hold the concept of going to the Nether first while making it not be a 20 day quest.
Make a new crafting formula

= sulfur
name? brimstone? Sulfur rock?
that way you only need 40 for the portal and 16 for the sides.
also make it so when you break it it drops the block, what if i accedentally break any part of my portal then i cant get back because there is no sulfur up there. unless you jump, that would be a bad thing.
No. Glowstone Sand addresses your issues. and the Aether doesn't have any explodey things (at least not in this suggestion) so as long as you don't damage it yourself, it should be safe. Otherwise, yeah, you'll have to jump.

Wth? Who said anything about sulphur? (Btw, sulphur is now called gunpowder.) You need GLOWSTONE DUST.
Incorrect terminology aside, he's got a point. I can understand that one does not simply walk into the Aether( ) but look at how much work it would take to get the bare minimum of 10 glowstone to get into the Aether(14 if the economical portal wouldn't work.)
Each glowstone block placed by the player is 9 blocks smashed in the Nether. That's a bare minimum of 90 for the economical version, or 126 for the full portal. That's 126 GLOWSTONE blocks, which, in order to obtain, you must go up to the ceiling of the nether, create a safe platform so it doesn't fall into lava, then mine all of the blocks in the cluster of, say, 10 or so on average(at least in my experience, YMMV). All the while dodging Ghast fireballs. And god help you if you misplace even one of them.
As I said before, I'm all for having to work to get into the Nether, but that just seems like it would devolve into a massive grind combined with a massive pain in the ass. In my opinion, you should at least be able to do something like combine a glowstone dust and a gold block to make a glowstone block. After all, gold is fairly rare but also fairly useless save for the first 4 ingots you get.
