Their mod is turning out to be like Scarecrowman's nether update
It's like "ok guys lets spam mineral ideaz and tool tiers! the community will luv us!!!1"
And the golden eggs? If they can capture moas, why would someone waste one on food that
goes away once you eat it? Maybe I should just rant on their thread.

I think Grey just hates putting new things into the game unless they can be completely and fully justified for at least 3 uses, not including looking cool.
I get the feeling that The Aether/New Nether Thread will start a trash talk war with the other ones such as the dumb Aether Mod Thread and the Nether Update Thread.

No... usually it's the other way around actually.
I've never said anything bad about The Nether Update outside of "it lost it's focus" and Grey just doesn't find anything of particular value in that thread.
They on the other hand, upon seeing The New Nether, immediately called "copycat", derided our thread having not read it, and sometimes even flamed.
Granted the ones who came back and actually reread the thread apologized and took back what they said, but it was said none-the-less.
With Grey's Aether and Aether Mod, I think it's more of the Aether Mod guys came to Grey's Aether thread to promote their mod and get Grey's backing.
Being so early in development they had very little completed, but were able to show off some specific stuff to Grey's thread (Aerwhales, swets, constant floating island land gen).
But now it's just gone a whole 'nother direction.
More and more mobs are being added, and I have very little doubt atleast one of them is going to break the "always indirect threat" theme of Grey's thread.
And they've included ores which are used to create gimmicky tools (granted the "stronger as you use it" tool tier is a good idea) where the suggestion included NO ores.
The dangerous terrain isn't even on their todo list, which was the BIGGEST part of Grey's Aether. (God, that's starting to sound like a show)
It's just very unnerving when a seemingly innocent mod group asks for support on modding your idea, and then completely corrupts it while at the same time high-jacking the popularity of the thread.
I signed up just for this thread so good job being a good read.
I think that for the floating affect of islands you should treat it like a powered block except the effect is to ignore gravity. if you increase the radius of powerto an area beyond 15 squares you will be able to have floating islands but will prevent huge expansions as blocks beyond the powered influence will be subject to gravity. the power is of course transfered to it's connecting blocks.
Guh, please stop calling it that way. I know it looks like a cool thing, but no one else is going to keep copying and pasting just for that.
"Æ/æ" is a Scandinavian letter, used in Denmark and Norway, also spelled ae on international keyboards. The Swedish equivalent is "Ä/ä"
It's fairly common, but it'd be a mispronounciation of Aether, since it would sound like Eh-ther... Which is just stupid.
Unless people are saying it with a quite failing accent, too think it is a bad idea to ever l33t speak it like so.
PweasssssSSSSSSSSSssssse don't do it people Thank you
Actually, I was using it in the Greco-Roman sense, as in "CAIVS IVLIVS CÆSAR" (Gaius Julius Caesar) in which case it has no effect on pronunciation and is merely a way of writing. I apologise for this and promise to stop. Not trying to be a jerk or anything, being sincere and addressing the problem.
I love the idea of an Aether.
Come on people! Keep on adding random comments such as "Bump" and "Like " and this thread will reach 100 pages! It is almost within GreyAcumen's grasp!
well, in that case...
one thing i would like to see, though, are ways to use the ground-level items and aether items in recipes together.
like gold and whatever air-rock thing you've got.
or slime and whalefat, or something.
I don't want it to feel like my entire ground-level inventory is useless whenever i step through a portal.
The aerwhale bladder was already intended to be used with boat blocks to create airships, and flowvein would be used with Chests to create vacuum chests, and gloomwood is used as the fuel for furnaces to become freezers.
I am loving this, but I am not expecting this to be done soon of course...if this ever does get put into the game, who ever does not read the forums and just updates the game is going to freak when they see some one on YouTube making a playthrough or something!
I'm not sure what's the hype with this Aether suggestion. I've been neutral to the idea, and generally ignoring it when it flies to the front page yet again. I've not once found the thought of the Aether tempting. I feel it would add a useless element to a game. We need things that are useful, things like custom made airships and vehicles. We have the Nether, why another realm?
But this is a very successful suggestion, and I commend you for that. My personal tastes lie in improving what we have and adding more creativity to the game, but many others support your idea.

Custom vehicles only ad so much to the game, since the real focus is on CREATING. If you take a look at the block idea, you'll notice that pretty much every single one is carefully designed to not only act as a natural hazard, but also to allow the player to create completely new mechanisms, that have to this point been impossible to make (or only possible through incredibly clunky designs)
Cold clouds allow for disappearing pitfalls, Gloomwood allows for making ice and snow, sticky soul sand allows for cascading sand and gravel traps, aetherock allows for secret passages and pitfalls and material bluffing (fake tnt, chests furnaces, cactus, water, lava, etc), floatsand allows for elevators and extending bridges, galestone and flowvein allow for blowing the player to new positions and also for acting as a pipe system for "moving" liquids for water or lava traps, and for transporting items over distances.
If you're really interested in Airships and Custom Boats (cars and planes don't belong in minecraft) then you should probably check out my Modular Ship building thread, which I've been keeping in mind as one of the primary modes of transport for in the Aether.

Interesting thought, and definitely doable, but I think it rests more on getting the New Nether and Aether implemented.
The "combination" items would definitely tie all the realms together better but first we have to have all the realms done :tongue.gif:

Building bridges between islands would just suck.
