Yes, but what concerns me is the fact that with so little development, they've already released a topic about it. If they do things better from here, and try not to run on hype so very much, I will happily endorse their work with all my heart.
Rome wasn't built in a day. Mods (at least on the scale of this one) take time to build.
They're jumping the gun a bit, but at least they have something to show instead of having a discussion and nothing to back them up.
Sigh. You'd be surprised at how much substance our mod actually has for the time we've been developing it. Notch made the Halloween Update (Nether, etc) in one month and already our project has surpassed the amount of content in that.
Suggesting ideas is one thing, but actually making it is another. I find your comment very disrespectful and ungrateful.
They're making an Aether mod, you say? Awesome! I have a lot of suggestions for the Aether, but really, I'm content with whatever the mod devs put out. I'll suspend all my suggestions until I see the final product. I enjoy the surprise.
So, I guess debating the finer details of how we all individually think the Aether should be seems kind of silly to me. No one will agree on everything, so why can't we just be content with what gets made? I know I will.
Here's me looking forward to installing the Aether mod and being pleasantly surprised.
I posted on the mod topic, and no one payed any attention...

I am sorry I post almost on every thread a large list of suggestions, it's just, that's one of the main easons I joined this forum.
But, so I don't overwhelm you I narrowed it down to one...
Spyn
Desc: a large Arachnid native to the Aether, scientist think the Spyn evolved from the mountain subspecies of the Common Minecraft Spider ( ), but got thrown up in a large storm, or it may have possibly hitched a ride on a Aerwhale that had come down in elevation. Spyns live in large colonies, and make a huge Cobweb-like structure (made of ) across to islands as their nest. Unlike most Spider webs it is not sticky, and only serves as a home for the Spyns. Spyns are active in both Day and Night, but are Neutral towards the player during the day. They send out small raiding parties who abduct Pygs, Sheepuffs and if it is weak, and the raiding party is large, they will sometimes take Cocatrices too. They don't kill their victims immediately though, instead they carry them back to the nest, were they will become a meal for the whole colony. As said before, during the day they are Neutral towards the player, but by Night... well, that's a different story...
During the Night Spyns will abduct the player, when you are in its clutches you can't damage it, attacking on makes you struggle, this way cause the Spyn to loose it's grip after a while and drop you, usually into a bottomless pit. But if you are wearing armor, it may grab you, strain for a bit and let you go, then the whole raiding party will attack like normal spiders. You must be wearing either, 4 pieces of Wooden Armor, 2 pieces of Gold, 1 of Stone or Iron, 2 Diamond or 3 Chainmail.
Here is my really bad attempt at making a Spyn skin: http://insaniquariumguide.com/forum/ind ... tem;in=727 (notice the lack of wings and the horrible un-matching colors)
Tolerance: neutral, aggressive
Locomotion: flying, walking, crawling
Speed: same as a normal
Spawns: light level of 10-1 on Silk blocks
Health: 11
Attack Strength: 1.5 (normal)
Drops: 0-3 silk, 0-2 ]" title="-<->" />
Also, thanks for making this, even if you don't add my idea. I can't image how much work you must have put in this, as usual, I won't give Diamonds, but instead Pigs and Spiders.
I just noticed that some people might think this is a Spider Pig pun... oh well.
I doubt you will add it, but I wanted you to at least look at it and maybe consider it.The other thread there was no chance of that, there were like 3 posts every minutes.
I know, it's not all that original, I thought up a few more original ones, but they weren't very good.
EDIT: I like the idea of it freezes during the night but thaws by day, something similar happens in the Andes Mountains. Also, maybe you should have UV light? It seems practical when you are so far up. Mobs would be immune to it because they have been living and evolving here for millions of years, and have become immune to it. You would have to craft a special armor, (Polymer possibly?) to reflect it, or you would take damage.
Also, I disagree with falling to the Overworld, I think you should fall into The Void.
So, I guess debating the finer details of how we all individually think the Aether should be seems kind of silly to me. No one will agree on everything, so why can't we just be content with what gets made? I know I will.
Would you be content with the Aether looking exactly like the Nether, except blue blocks instead of red ones? I doubt it. Just saying "accept whatever we get" is stupid. "good enough" is never really good enough.

That's a bit extreme, don't you think? What he is trying to say is that the finer details (such as the colour of leaves, which again is a personal preference) are not necessarily going to "break" the overall feeling of the final Aether. Yes, subtle things may change the atmosphere of the realm, but when it comes down to it things could be a lot worse. Luckily, my Aether mod is not a "Nether with blue blocks" so at least I have the core basics in. He's saying that he's going to be pretty content with it as long as those core basics are in, and I know you might disagree but:
It might not be perfect just yet, but we've got a pretty solid adaption right now. Don't hesitate to disagree, I still believe that any constructive criticism is a good thing.
EDIT: I would really love it if you could accept this as the official Aether mod, even if that means we have to work more closely to get the Aether ideas more in-tune with each others. We're always open to compromise if its within reason.
I actually am quite impressed with how far things have come already. My comment was responding to the concept of "accepting whatever comes" purely on its own. Sure I could say "wow, this is the best attempt at the Aether that I've seen so far" but if I see something that could have been better, then just saying "it's good enough" ISN'T good enough. I've said what I feel should be done differently as best I can from the descriptions, obviously I'll need to wait and see how it actually turns out in practice.
I'd like to clarify myself better, but I'm running late for work as it is.
Hey there. Ihavenofeckinclue's mockup is my work. That's going on the assumption that that's some person's screenname, and not that you just actually have no feckin clue. That image, along with a couple others, was posted in a BiomeTerrain settings-sharing thread. Please change the accreditation, I'd appreciate it a lot. :]
Here; I actually think the other two screenies are better anyhow. XD

Kingbdogz, im just wondering, awhile back I posted on the last attempt at a aether mod that they should try and do a community co-op to create a aether mod. Did you get the idea to co-op with other modders to create the aether there? Or did you just think of it?
Yeah, pretty much. Colors of trees and stuff don't really interest me in the big picture. Just as long as it's reasonably similar to what was described in the original post in this thread. That is, just as long as it's "Aetherish".
And for the record, I wasn't saying we should just "accept whatever we get". I just see a lot of debating about who thinks what should be in the Aether, but no one's ever going to agree on everything and not everyones ideas and suggestions will get included, so I'll be pleased with being pleasantly surprised with what comes out of any kind of mod.
The deviations from the original suggestion will just make it all the more unique and something more for me to discover. Let the artists have their artistic license and the end product will be better than anything that a committee could ever come up with.
And that's pretty much all I have to say about that.
I haven't been really frequenting this thread much since the title became "Current Topic: Notch?" But here's a quick spiel.
I don't know what to think about the Aether Mod that is coming out, except for that the sentries look awesome IMHO. I haven't seen them fire yet, or the visual affects of them firing, etc. but from what I've seen thus far, its nice.
Plus, the image for the sentry is about the only thing you're missing. I think you should probably just ask them to borrow their graphics, then compile the HTML report, and send it to Notch. This should happen before/around your 100 page mark (Exactly?).
So, I guess debating the finer details of how we all individually think the Aether should be seems kind of silly to me. No one will agree on everything, so why can't we just be content with what gets made? I know I will.
Because we know that every time we post something it influences all who read it. if that influence is positive and gets big enough it will be put on the main page and eventually seen by notch. notch will in turn, be influenced by what he sees on the main page and it will affect how he decides to make the aether. In short people like me [and my crystal refraction suggestions (see page 90)] want to have an impact to try to make the aether as good as it can possibly be or at least influence notch by fueling his creativity to make something equally awesome (if not better :tongue.gif:)
Ok,I love the idea of the aether, but I have a quick question. My question is about the Phygs. If you were to get a saddle and ride the phygs, would you be able to control it?Or would it go wherever it wants to?

Echo Granite is a kind of rock that occurs in Natural Caves in the Aether. When stepped on it gives of a noise 3X louder than the normal one and echoes 3 or 4 times. All mobs withing a 15X15 block radius will be alerted, even if they are behind blocks.
Austerbrush http://insaniquariumguide.com/forum/ind ... tem;in=729
(Also known as Osterbrush, Austershrub and Ostershrub)
Leaves that occur on 1 or 2 trunks (one of the s is surrounded by leaves). When hit they collapse and give off a powerful wind blast (twice as strong as a Zephyr, and 0.5 as strong as Galestone). When mined with a Gold <insert tool name here> they will not collapse and give you Asuterbrush Leaves, Asuterbrush Leaves do not decay and can be crafted into Austerbrush Saplings. They will collapse if stood on.
Austerbrush comes from the word Auster for Southern Wind.
- Implementation of the Moa;
I'm a fan of all of Firehazurd's work, but the Moa is one of the things I like least, and I specifically do NOT like it for the Aether. There are already flying pigs, and support for Airships with the idea that Ghasts and Aerwhales that could be made to drop Gas Bladders that could be used as a more stable airship material. All of this gives the players options that DON'T need to include a mob that can directly injure the player. At the VERY least, if the Mao is going to be in the Aether, it should be an incredibly skittish bird who flies as high as possible and rarely lands, possibly something that needs to be baited or grabbed with the fishing rod in order to capture, and will only try to run away and not attack the player. I have no issues with the Moa being hostile in the Overworld, but I do object to having the directly hostile mobs in the Aether.
I think you may have misunderstood how Moa's work. Moa's are actually very friendly and they will not attack the player (even when provoked). The biggest problem I see with the idea of Airships is that they are not reliable. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Gas Bladders will be used as fuel for the Airships, right? Well, I don't think that's very balanced. The Aether is an extremely hard dimension to traverse, imagine having to constantly kill Aerwhales which will probably drop their Gas Bladders into the void, or Ghasts dropping theirs into lava. I just think it would become frustrating to use.
Moa's, on the other hand, only need to be tamed once and then you can use it until it perishes (dies). That doesn't mean they are easy to tame though. They also don't technically "fly", they simply glide and can do a few mid-air jumps. I don't know, what are your thoughts on this? I don't think it's a bad idea to have several methods of traversing the Aether.
On the subject of aerwhal bladders no it wont be fuel it is an organ and according to te littlle knowledge i have on fish it would suck in air to make itself lighter if you attached it to a vechile it would be a sort of air submarine
in short its a part not the fuel

They look like cubes with swirls on the side. I'm sorry, but I'm really not feeling that at all. Fortunately that's just a texture thing. That can always be modified on the user end. The important thing is how they function, and while it's not exactly what I envisioned (i had planned that players would need to gather up mossy cobblestone that temples would consist of in order to place so that Sentries would be fooled into believing it belonged there and would not disintegrate those blocks) but the important part of just having the beams knock the player around and phase blocks out is good.

Unless you had something that let you control pigs in the overworld, then no, they'd fly wherever they wanted, but should have their AI set to specifically choose islands to fly to and from.
