Hi everyone :smile.gif:
I'm sorry if this idea was already suggested but i would like to show my idea.
as at nether we have Glowstones that make light while it dark in the nether, which apear at the top of the nether,
why dont make Duskstones that make shadow while it's light in the aether, which apear at the bottom of the aether, bottom of each floating islands, beside the darkwoods.
here is a picture:
please tell me what you're thinking. it will look just like glowstones but with dark blue shades.
It will also act like glowstone, each duskstone drop 1 duskstone dust, and 9 duskstones at crafting table will produce back one duskstone.
it will do the same affect as the darkwood but more darkness(like torch do 14 levels of light and glowstone does 15, darkwood will do 14 levels or darkness(or more) and duskstone will do 15(or more) levels of darkness).
thanks for reading,
Shaked =)
Very awesome idea for a newly spawned, 1-post person. One of the most epic ideas i've seen on this thread so far, besides the Swet.

That has been the best explanation ever of a dark making block. Kudos to you!

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.
NO NOOB! THE PURPOSE OF THIS THREAD IS TO GET NOTCH TO NOTICE AND IMPLEMENT THE AEHTER IN THE NEXT BETA UPDATE!
If there was a mod for Notch to try out, then he might be more likely to add it to the game because 1. He has a good idea of how everything would look and behave, and 2. If the mod was done well, he wouldn't have to do a lot of work to add it to the game.
p.s. for those of you who say Notch won't add mods to the game, think about sandstone, and ambient occlusion.
@Shaked
While being a decent counter to Lightstone (in theory and implementation), I can't really see a purpose for it. Not to mention it looks ridiculously like Lapis Lazuli.
@NightHawk
I can't find the source anymore but Notch has said he strays away from Mods for what to implement as he wants to implement his own take on what the blocks should be.
Mods like Better light and the save file one are back end mods that don't need his take on it. Front end mods like 2x2 and what people are suggesting for this and doing in the Nether one (apparently), while they may be proof of concept, are generally going to be ignored.

I meant that it will be a decent counter.
It will help to nevigate in day(deay?) time in aether, when you can't almost see anything becuase of light, you will see the duskstones shadows and know that in the top of them there is a land, a floating island :wink.gif:
How about we use lapis lazuli blocks to make the portal, and the aether is a whole new world like the nether. I think it should be like the nether but with different blocks;
Netherstone:Clouddust (White cloudy black that is solid and is minable)
Glowstone:Duskstone (someone elses idea)
Lava:Water
Soul sand:Angelic sand (makes you float a little)
Mushrooms:Flowers
Ghasts:Pigasis (Pegasis but a pig, again someone elses idea)
Pigmen:Angels (peaceful mobs that when attacking "poison" you if hit and makes you lose health slowly)
Gold should be very rare but when found should in large groups and extremely hard to get
Diamond should be rare but in large groups and protected by a hostile angel
These are just ideas feel free to suggest other things
Also i believe that it should not be a safe place there should be lightining storms that can turn al mobs evil and harm you.
I do like the idea, however the portal itself is a bad idea. I believe, instead, it could be created with a Nether item that is introduced along-side the Aether, such as any of the ones used here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=146410 Kitrinite being the most interesting for the idea. Personal suggestion.

GENERATION 17: The first time you see this, copy it into your sig on any forum and add 1 to the generation. Social experiment.
1. The last mod made of the Aether was never made.
2. Notch has confirmed adding the Aether.
Eh, kind of. He said he is considering adding it after the Nether gets an upgrade. The way updates come out now, that upgrade may not happen for a while.
As the Nether was made out of completely new blocks, so should the aether. no normal trees and dirt, just aether dirt,sand, trees etc.
While that keeps more in common between the Aether and the Nether, I don't think it's necessary. Tall trees and grass seem to give the place that peaceful, lofty feeling it should give, especially since the grass can, in small areas, give the illusion of a solid ground, yet once you pay attention to your surroundings, it feels more open and lofty in comparison.

That post made me want to take a warm bath, using those herbal candles I bought off some hippie in Minnesota.

that and it looks and functions exactly like glowstone. I like for new blocks to fill niches. This does the exact opposite of filling a niche.

I'm still hoping to gather enough support that if he isn't willing to add it to the vanilla game, that he'll at least offer it as DLC expansion pack or something.

I guess it's about time to just come out and officially say that I haven't seen an idea in that thread that I've actually liked yet. Most of them are either excessively overpowered, needlessly complex, derivative in design/function, or just pointless.

Mostly agree but...

You can't deny them.
I've been waiting for that update he said he was going to make before I make known I was going to start ignoring the thread or not.

Well, can you please explaine me why its doen't fill niches?
it can feel lot of space in the bottom of each floating island :ohmy.gif:
or I didn't understood what you meant? ><
It doesn't fill niche's in the game mechanics. It produces darkness; darkwood already does that, and also produces cold as well. It looks blue-blackish; it looks like lapus lazuli, or that new block texture that has no function right now or just generally a recolored Glowstone block. and in terms of how it functions and is put together, it functions like glowstone. There are literally no unique features to this block.
Basically, it's the same problem I have with many of the ideas in the Nether suggestions thread that aren't outright badly balanced.

I can. We already have 5 billion different glowing object in minecraft. It's like the standard goto idea when people are out of ideas is "it makes light!"

Last I heard he was updating the list to include mobs. Standard cliche fair; dragons, fire or skeletons things, demons of some sort. I didn't see him try to include ANY of the awesome stuff that Firehazurd came up with for the mobs of the Nether. I swear, the further he goes down the route he's taking, the more I want to just devote more time to GOOD suggestions for the Nether in this thread. Maybe add Midas Tears to the list, and Firehazurd's Salamander and Glutton Mob(change the glutton so it steals your food items, which makes it even more dangerous to be in the Nether) and also a Netherworm that tunnels through Netherrack (not specifically hostile, but will injure you if you get in its way, and will be more likely to come near you the more Netherrack you're carrying) Add some features to obsidian; (obsidian tools = mining power of wood/stone, durability of diamond, though maybe this should only work with obsidian made from lava in the Nether) add some features to lava (can set air on top of it on fire for short durations) and netherrack (can be activated by lava, fire can work on the side of netherrack, fire can spread from one netherrack block to while putting out the origin block's fire)
Very awesome idea for a newly spawned, 1-post person. One of the most epic ideas i've seen on this thread so far, besides the Swet.

Makes a good opposite of glowstone! :biggrin.gif:
Now we need a Dawnstone that creates orange light
