No. I've talked about stuff being used WITH redstone. but nothing about replacing or improving the ability of redstone itself, at least nothing concrete.

You are severely underestimating my intended scope of the Aether. You realize that the Overworld has less than HALF the amount of air space that the Aether would have. Just because they're floating islands doesn't mean there can't be some BIG islands. Go look at my concept art on the opening post.

Neither realm could function in its intended manner if implemented as a Biome. The Nether couldn't form it's 8:1 ratio with the Overworld, and the Aether wouldn't have a immutable lack of floor which makes falling so dangerous. increasing the height limit on maps would just mean people could drop a couple dozen stacks of gravel to make sure they don't fall. Or to dump some water to make sure they have a pool below them if they mess up.

Darkwood swords do wood sword damage to all Aether (including swets) and normal creatures. Bonus damage is done against Nether creatures (because darkwood absorbs heat and nether creatures are used to a very hot environment), bringing it to steel or diamond strength against those foes. The darkwood sword minimally reduces all illumination centered on the player, if programing allows.
I was originally going to bash this idea for being so unoriginal, but I like the reasoning to it. Indeed a sword made from darkwood should be able to do damavge through cold to Swets, though I honestly wanted to force players to either have a gold weapon, or to use the darkwood indirectly by placing torches in its path. I don't like hte darkwood armor at all though. There's no wood armor, so no darkwood armor either.

Honestly, I haven't seen much in terms of newly suggested ideas worth adding since back when I updated Songstone to Galestone/Flowvein.
You clearly did not read my whole post, Eatherite does NOT replace Redstone, it works alongside it, one of the Crafting Recipies for an Eatherite item USES REDSTONE Eatherite is unstable in it's base form and unuseable until combined with either Glass or Iron and even then for the monster repelling effect it needs a conduit to be made, the conduits REQUIRE Redstone in order to be made, but also Eatherite Pipes only carry a redstone current when active redstone is connected to the pipe. I thought out my idea so that it would enhance Redstone and make it much more useful. A conduit must be connected to a Generator by Eatherite Pipes, and so far Redstone does not repel mobs, so Eatherite would be used to repel mobs and Redstone to make traps, see where I'm going with this?
The problem with what you said to use is that mobs can still enter the area Eatherite Conduits would not allow enemy mobs into an area as big as the light it produces, making a safe area.

Bigger problem is the fact that, under the current blocks system, it is IMPOSSIBLE to have a block that dies off in 30 m... Only 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,15, and infinite.
It would need a lot of work to make it a enjoyable place though because the nether seems a bit boring and doesn't have many things to do on it.
I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet, but there could be a special boss for The Aether that can be randomly found if you search for a while. The boss can be found randomly or in a sky temple. It can drop a epic shiny weapon that has a special ability of glowing a bit. This glow can act as a very small but useful light source in dungeons. The light weapon would have to give a nice glow, but the glow should not give more light than a torch (This is intended to make the torch keep its value and not be replaced with the light weapon).
Notch could also update The Nether and have a boss that drops a dark weapon. I'm not sure what the dark weapon could do, so its up to you peeps to decide =o.
I think that The Nether needs a bunch of updates and the Aether needs to be put into the game NOOWWW!!!! =p

Oi... The entire point of this thread isn't to make it into a mod, but a (well written might I add) suggestion to Notch for the game.
I'll agree that an anti-Nether region would work, but for now I just want the Nether to be completed before another region is added. Once the Nether gets a well deserved update then Notch could think about adding an anti-Nether region.

Well from my research into the Steampunk Ether(I was spelling it wrong before) it could actually be used for many things, including weaponry as it is one of the main power sources in Steampunk related stories and even costumes, The idea for the Repelling effect comes from one of these stories uses of Ether in which it was used to hold back the monsters of the world by the method i had suggested so far, Ether is also used in transportation with steam jetpacks, and airships. It could also be used for decoration on walls if people wish to use walls and would also provide a way to hold off the mobs without having to construct the walls, personally i would rather not have to construct a wall to keep mobs out and that's part of why I would like such a material to be available in minecraft. Ether could be useable for portable power sources as well since currently redstone can't go up walls or ceilings and is stationary Ether would actually add many more uses for redstone as well.
And I already know about the thing with the block ids it may be possible to code a distance of 30 by using 2 ids but the Ether pipes can be made to just go as far as redstone if that becomes too big of an issue
