It would be awesome if notch added this but lets be realistic- has notch added any suggestions? However he did just add two mods to make the game better. Out of 2000 likes there has to be a few modders. If we begin coding parts of the Aether, it could get implemented very soon. So get working all you modders out there. Make our dream reality! :Notch:.

I plan on doing this next after my current mod project is done...
However, If somebody starts before me, I yield to them...
You know many people could work together onthis if you all did a few mobs, blocks, or properties. If we made something to start on notch could finish. He isn't payed for nothing.

If there's gonna be a transition back into the overworld by falling, then why does it need to be a separate dimension? Why can't there just be some floating islands about 2x higher than the current highest point?
Because then it would be a biome, and would be limited in how high up and how expansive and impressive it could be, and you would ALWAYS be able to just drop some sand and build a tower up to where you are. You can't do that with the Aether as a separate realm that has no floor. The only way to survive falling out of the Aether is to land in water or have a parachute or something similar.
The Aetherrock copying whatever is next to it is a pointless feature. It should probably just be a "heavenly" retexture of smoothstone and behave in the same way.
Because then all you'd have to do is look out for smooth stone, or whatever the texture it uses is, and you'd be able to tell if there's an invisible wall. With the copy feature, people can make hidden doors of any material.
Galestone doesn't make any sense, the Nether doesn't have something like this, why does it have to be here?
The Nether doesn't have sky islands either. The point is the Aether is parallel to the Nether in how content is access and presented, but DIFFERENT from the Nether in terms of content.
Can't there just be ice caves instead of all of these useless hazard blocks? It's bad enough that it's really high up, but the focus is in the caves, so why don't you make ice caves and stick some new ores inside to find? Exploration in the Aether doesn't mean anything if all you're doing is spending your time trying not to get kicked off the edge.
Because the whole point to adding content is to add NEW features, new options for the player to utilize in building more creatively functional architecture, not just make another tier of ores.

For the aether why not just like "cloud blocks" or something like that. I think it should be like the nether-a lot of the same thing like cloud=netherstone, water=lava, glowstone=glowstone, new mobs like angels. The nether is just a lot of netherstone and lava, the aether should be similar but with cloud and water
That would be DULL and have no reason to visit at all.
Quote from phillyeagles824 »
i think the cluds should be changed to an actual block "cloudstone" or something, and are only reachable by a portal of diamond block, and since diamond is more rare the aether should have more valueable things in it like the pegasis which are EXTREMELY RARE and drop .
I don't ee the need for overworld clouds to be changed, but Aether Cloud blocks already do that. And I really don't see any reason why anyone would put all this effort into a realm that can only be accessed by less than the 1% of the community who are freakishly obsessed to access it legitimately, and cheaters.

Cloud - Once stepped on it will evaporate after 3 seconds, does not reform after evaporating
I dunno, i think making them reappear would make a nice way to get back and forth from islands.
My thoughts-
-cloud block that floats like clouds randomly through the aether and that you can travel on.
-marble inside those floating islands.
i want aether.
Everyone keeps saying how much the love this lawn. DO SOMETHING! Find some modders and tell them to start scripting. If i knew how to code i'd do it. :Notch:.

or even better, get Notch to make it and make it official. we all know that mods will never become Minecraft canon, so we have to get Notch to approve this if we want to see it ingame.

I think we should wait until the nether is fully developed before trying to come up with even more dimensions to put stuff in. This idea is great but It should be put on hold for the moment.
I have an idea for a counter part to darkwood, introducing lightwood
Characteristics:
Wood
Location:
Only naturally in Aether, Can be grown in the overworld but only over aetherock. Grows same as Trees, can grow normally, upside down or sideways in the Aether, only normally in the overworld.
Mining:
Golden Axe, Lightwood axe
Any Other Axe, Fists, and other tools will break, but not drop
Features:
Lightwood is the tree for the Aether, it emits light but not as much as a lightstone. Its leaves look like and act like clouds, but they do not move. The only way to get saplings from it is with a golden or lightwood hoe/axe, and the only way to chop it down is with a golden or lightwood axe. Instead of growing one tree with a sapling 2-3 are grown in clusters, but only 1 sapling may be mined from a tree. Lightwood trees take 10-15 mincraftian days to grow(In the overworld, 3-5 in the Aether), but if left for more they will grow to a limit of 15 blocks high. A few key features of lightwood are that it cannon catch on fire, and also when placed adjacent to lava, any lava withing 1 block will turn into obsidian. Which is mined twice as fast by a lightwood pickaxe. And if a player is hurt a lightwood station will heal them half a heart every 10 seconds. A lightwood station would be formed like so: = One lightwood log = Redstone Dust = Compressed Lightwood
= 1
Ingame it would look like a bluish furnace with a redlight always on.
Also if a compressed lightwood block is put into a 2x2 recipe it forms one lightwood ore, which can than be smelted into lightwood steel. Used to make glowing armor (sets a glowing radius of 3 blocks away from player) or lightwood weapons these cause enemies to temporarily ignore the player, and other lightwood tools described below.
Crafting:
Lightwood station (Used for healing)
Lightwood tools:
-Pickaxe(Main benefit is that it mines obsidian twice as fast, but the durability is the same as iron.)
-Axe(Same as normal axe but can mine lightwood and lightwood leaves.)
-Hoe(Same as normal how but can harvest lightwood leaves faster than lightwood or gold axe.)
-Shovel(Haven't thought of a use yet.)
-Sword(Causes enemies to temporarily ignore player)
-Bow(Causes enemies to temporarily ignore player)Formed like so: = Compressed Lightwood =String
[] []
[]
And...
Lightwood armor (Causes a 3x3x3 glow of light around player.)
Smelting:
By using it as the fuel in a furnace, you can make objects become 50% more durable. (Except lightwood.)
People have been suggesting adding dreams. That might be a better solution. The bed would be royal looking and made with gold instead of wood. I really like the idea. some concerns about what new things you can get there is kind of what keeps me away from this (Did I just say I was scared of heaven? Man, am I a wuss or what?). I am thinking the mobs there are invincible to a lot of things and only can be hurt to evil things.

I am just a guy looking for good suggestions that are original, creative, and match the theme of Mine-craft. I have some mob ideas that I need help forming which is a community project.
These all sound like really good ideas. I especially like the idea of making a day/super-day cycle instead of the normal night/day cycle. To be honest, that would be pretty disorientating to most minecraft players who are used to the idea that the brighter it gets, the more safe you are.
A few things you might want to include:
Shinelog trees and redwood trees - I see that your render of the Aether already includes super-tall trees with an interesting leaf pattern (looks like a tree-based pagoda, I guess), which I think should be classified as redwoods,
The shinelog trees are interesting in that they require a light level of at least 14 to grow when they are a sapling, and once they are fully grown any block or leaf (crystal) that isn't in a high level of light will break and (maybe?) fall to the ground (doesn't have to be 14). Along with having a very cool color of logs (and planks?) that give off a little light, the tree could have very good possibilities as far as making a sort of water-sensative air-lock (water breaks torch, tree explodes, sand falls down and stops water).
Note: just did a preview and it seems like the guy above me was a heck of a lot more detailed than I was about the "light tree" idea, so yeah....
More ideas to come!

Those are engine enhancements.
Light and Save Files were already implemented. Those mods just made them better.
The Aether doesn't exist yet.
The Aether would be an engine expansion not enhancement.
