Swets should have about the same chance of a Ghast spawning near a portal to drop out of the sky. It will not take fall damage, but after it lands, it can. They only fall after your first visit to the Aether. I also love this idea. It gets..
Five out of Five. Although, the Nether is boring, though. Ores should be found there. But Nether-specific ores.
Go ahead, Flowvein may actually be a better option, since it sucks in air from one direction and blows in the other direction, so it's more like a jet turbine, as opposed to galestone, that blows wind in all directions available.
I probably wont be officially supporting it though. I prefer the Airship and Parachutes/Hang-gliders myself.

Oh oops >.<
I'll put flowvein in, not galestone. Got a little confused with the two there. I'll also put a link to the Aether so that people can read that part of it.
Oh, and my ornithopter isn't meant to be added instead of airships. I actually intend for ornithopters to show up along with airships!
flying aircraft carriers anyone?
Honestly though, I would prefer to be able to attach flowvein to a block grid entity, and have it provide thrust. Combine that with some kind of air friction affected, rotatable "panel" of some sort, and you would be able to create custom "jet" aircraft in minecraft.
That requires the Aether AND Block grid entities to be added though, so I don't see it happening any time soon.

Question, why hang-gliders? Are you going for a simplistic way to fly in contrast to the more complex airships, or are you going for a smaller-faster aircraft? Because, if it is the latter, I would prefer ornithopters.
I was sipping at my tea this morning when an Idea struck me.
Mob-Frozen lightning (or whatever you call it) Interaction.
Let me begin with Zephyrs:
Zephyrs are positively charged mobs, and when near an open Lightning circut, will energize it, activating the circuit. Multiple Zephyrs activating the circuit can create absolute havoc, so make sure to properly protect your sensitive apparatus. Also, if two Zephyrs both energize the same Un-interrupted (without input/output between) section of Lightning, then the positive charges will short out the circuit, disabling every nearby section of Lightning. This will also kill the Zephyrs involved, and create a shock-wave blowing back airborne mobs nearby.
(I also suggest having an Inactive circuit attract nearby Zephyrs.)
And now to the Slime-like things:
These Slimes are ALSO attracted to Lighting, but in a different manner. The Slimes are attracted to Energized currents, instead of inactive ones like Zephyrs. When a Slime touches or "Interacts" with an Active current, the current is slowly drained, much the way redstone drains with distance. After a certain period of time draining the current, the Slime will shut off the current section it is near, and the rest of the circuit will respond accordingly. The Slime will Also become a "Charged Slime", which will be a brighter blue in color, and give off light. This charge deteriorates with time, or vanishes if the slime touches water or lava. Be warned, however. These charged slimes are dangerously overloaded with power, and if killed, may explode with a large explosion (Or varying by the amount of energy consumed.)! Also, if you are unlucky enough to be "swallowed" by a charged Slime, you will receive extra damage while inside the slime, as the energy shocks you. This effect is increased when wearing steel armor, decreased when wearing leather.
Block-Changes:
Some blocks will actually carry the energy charge/drain farther, mainly Iron and Gold blocks. Iron will allow the mobs to affect the current by a chain of blocks up to 15 Long. Gold, however, is Highly Conductive, and will allow the mobs to affect a current in touch with a golden block chain for up to 100 blocks!
This idea would be best with the addition of the mob-attracting and mob-repelling torches, in order to make effective use of Zephyr/Slime power.
Also, this would be Handy:
The ThunderBringer: =Lightning Dust
This Expendable canister of lightning dust is very volatile, and makes a potent weapon. Simply point this at a mob, and right click to open the canister and release the charged lightning, and it will zap+fry the mob in seconds! (Straight shot, no Gravity.) And for even more fun, if there are more mobs nearby, the Lightning will cause a chain reaction, hopping from one mob to the next! Be careful though, if you are standing near your target, you too could be zapped by this stinger of electricity. But wait, i'm not done yet, if you fire this little Wonder at Charged Slime, The chain lightning range will be increased, and the bolts will become Explosive ! And wait, we're not finished yet, just craft this easy recipe, and you will Recieve Twice the canisters! That's Right, Twice the canisters! That's two canisters for every one dust! To order, just call 1-800-OWNED now! And ask about a package deal with our new Creeper-seeking arrows!
I love the idea. I think the temple idea should definitely be put into the game, at least, if not with the rest of the stuff. but, holy **** dude, if you fall....
The Nether isn't going to stay dull, why should the Aether stay dull?
I can't beleive you dissagree with EVERYTHING i said :sad.gif: i especially thought i was onto something with the glowstone staircase, i don't think you really understood what i meant. it will be a portal, just like the nether portals, but it will only work above the cloudline, which will imply the aether is above the normal world, or at least that there is some kind of physical connection. when you enter the aether, the staircase will carry on up from near the bottom of the map if possible. it would be "restrictive" but it's not like it would be hard to build above the cloudline. as for the mobs, i guess i could just turn it to peaceful :biggrin.gif: and i got confused about the daey thing, nevermind, sorry about that.
But anyway i still wanna say a few things. I'm worried that Notch will see this thread and not add all the features (which seems highly likely to me). mabey he will pick one idea (e.g. the gale block) but just add it to the normal world, thinking it is what the community wants. when in fact the main point of what we want is another dimention that looks like skylands (right? or am i missing the point?).
but more importantly, about the gameplay thing... I guess all i want to do in the aether is build some cool houses and some funky aetherock contraptions. In normal world atm all you do is explore caves to get resources so you can build houses, and i dont think thats boring, so why can't Aether just be the same but on floating islands?
come to think of it... how do you get resources in the aether? do you still get caves? if not, i can see the need for temples now.
I agree with yours posts. The more you put on your Christmas list, the less likely you're going to get what you wanted. Still a lot better than that nether one, though.

"Survival" is a film/literature/video game genre about survival and self-sufficiency in the wild.
"Survival of the fittest" is a phrase used to paraphrase natural selection.
You're not going back into the overworld by falling. The fall would kill you.
Also why are you shooting down everything that makes the Aether unique. the Nether is boring and you're suggesting that the Aether be just as boring as the Nether.
For the aether why not just like "cloud blocks" or something like that. I think it should be like the nether-a lot of the same thing like cloud=netherstone, water=lava, glowstone=glowstone, new mobs like angels. The nether is just a lot of netherstone and lava, the aether should be similar but with cloud and water

Except Notch himself has said the Nether as is is boring and he intends to change it.
You're saying we should make an entirely new realm just as boring as the current one?
i think the cluds should be changed to an actual block "cloudstone" or something, and are only reachable by a portal of diamond block, and since diamond is more rare the aether should have more valueable things in it like the pegasis which are EXTREMELY RARE and drop .
water= Oceancraft.

I have made an ornithopter suggestion, and a conversation was started about the usefulness of an ornithopter in the Aether, when I realized something:
Galestone could be used to create a "jet" powered aircraft!
Would it be okay for me to include Galestone in my Ornithopter topic, GreyAcumen?
I probably wont be officially supporting it though. I prefer the Airship and Parachutes/Hang-gliders myself.

This should be the next big update planned... save format and modding is out of way, most of the other big concerns are met, outside of Nether in smp.
A massive content update like this would really hit spot right now.
