Why wouldn't there be portals in the Aether? It doesn't make sense that you would restrict this ability.
Aether as an Element is a Unifying element for the Natural forces. It has no affiliation with the Nether elements. This is one justification for having no Nether-portals.
That's a ******** excuse. You should be able to warp to any of the worlds. Besides you get aether portal material in the nether, you should get Nether portal material in the Aether. That's what makes sense. Needless restrictions only cause frustration and make theoretical wars between the two realms more difficult.

I myself am opposed to the material for the Aether originating in the Nether, very strongly opposed.
Also, They would never be at War, because as I have stated, Aether has no Affiliation with the Nether. The two are not connected.

That would never make a good story plot. It makes both worlds much more interesting if they were connected. The whole idea of opposite forces repelling each other is more appealing than both worlds exist and we don't know why they are there. :sleep.gif:

At first, when I entered this thread, I was thinking: "Oh, great, a heaven suggestion. Lets see how the community can plot to spoil Minecraft today?"
What I wasn't expecting was something as massive and well-thought-out as this. I absolutely love the idea, and would not at all be dissappointed if this was added (as long as you can't see the islands while in the normal world, it would make the realm seem less like a mystical, hidden place and more like a part of the world you start in).
I really hope this gets enough attention to be truly added to the game.

As I have been constantly berating people over for the last 2-3+ pages, Aether is by no means a havenly realm.

True enough. I usually don't bother with that sort of thing myself.
Ahem, just to point this out, the feature implemented to make sure portals couldn't be created in the Aether oddly enough IS the loophole in which it could be done. All you would need is a mold built, and then pour the lava in. Presto, instant obsidian portal. Just turn the lava into cobblestone instead and that problem is solved.
Congratulations, you built a rectangle out of obsidian, but unless you activate it with fire, which the Aether keeps from functioning the same way the Nether stops water from functioning, that rectangle of obsidian will never actually become a portal.
Sorry, I'm afraid you've lost this round of READIIIIING COMPRE-HEN-SION! But you wont go home empty-handed! Tell him what he still gets, Bob!

Hmmm... That was a touch Hostile.
Huh... I have an idea... Perhaps directing a lava flow to a planned path of wood, which would set the wood on fire, triggering a flame to move across the wood to the portal? Depends on how strict the fire prevention is I suppose.
It was mostly just meant to make light of the fact that he completely misunderstood which function of the Aether was actually responsible for preventing a Nether Portal from being created in the Aether.

fire blocks would be prevented from being placed or forming. Lava solidifies into obsidian, so you still wouldn't be able to set the wood on fire with it even if the fire blocks could be formed that way. One of the reasons for the crystal blocks is so that there's a logical method to still be able to smelt (heat still works, just not combustion) ores and also to let furnaces to work for powering airships, though honestly, I've been considering just having it set so that the player would need to use galestone/flowvein as fuel specifically for powering airships. (or Ghast/Aerwhale bladders)

I shee. Now, one question... Isn't it possible for lava to cause forest fires?

In the overworld, absolutely. Not in the Aether though.

Oh, I see that now. Still, you don't have to go insane with joy that I made a very minor mistake. Everybody makes them at times. Even makes them, though most of the time they are corrected in the milliseconds after they have been made.
Nothing personal intended from that, man. Just basically felt like being silly. When I started out going "congratulations..." it just sorta spun out into this odd Price is Right parody inside my head.

So you ARE disabling the fire-starting capabilities of Lava. That's what I wanted to know.
Wait a second........ Are you one of the people who are actually involved in this?

IRL, It's a theoretical Material.
I don't recall Aether being a block in this thread, however.
