sorry, typos and "Aetherock should be an opposite of Netherrack" have both been prevalent in this thread. It's been a while since the post that actually specified what you meant by "aerorock" so I was assuming you misread how Aetherock was written. Heck, I didn't even realize you were the same person who had made that post.
And no, there's already Galestone and Flowvein that use smelting to shift between the two. No more.
You can ALREADY get a continuous speed and no damage by just spacing the quicksoil out properly so you aren't CONSTANTLY running over it. While you're running on quicksoil, you accelerate, while not running on quicksoil, you decelerate, so by alternating back and forth, you get what is effectively constant speed, and as long as you space it out right so that you aren't always running at max speed, your oxygen will be able to replenish as well so that there's no danger. There's no reason at all to add a new block by ANY methods when the block that is already there can do the job by itself.
Thanks for the contribution attempt, but sorry, I'm just not going to throw in every idea that someone comes up with into the opening post.
Fair enough. That makes sense.
I still think you should be able to craft something out of a combination of Soul Sand and Quicksoil, though. A gravity block (something that draws things in similarly to the way a water current works) would be most logical.
When is Soul Sand and is Quicksoil, I figure the crafting recipe for a gravity block (or WHATEVER block would be created) would be as follows:
[]
Or, if deemed that's too much for some reason, it could just be:
Possible functions of a gravity block include:
-pulling mobs into traps
-creating "curved" dropzones (IE, a castle of mine has three separate disconnected levels, and to get from a higher one to a lower one, you jump into a pool of water. Gravity blocks could be used to make those pools NOT directly under your jump point, to pull yourself into them).
-preventing items mined from above a gap/hole/drop from falling
-crafting the Gravity Gun, which allows you to grab things from 2-3x the distance you normally would
And the Gravity Gun would be crafted with the following recipe, where is a gravity block:
Gravity blocks are something that I feel should be saved for a "Moon Realm" There are enough different possibilities (less gravity, more gravity, reversed gravity, changed gravity, 0 gravity) that it could flesh out the entire realm almost all on its own.
Same for the gravity gun. It's not so scifi that i feel it doesn't belong in minecraft at all, but it's scifi enough that it would do a lot better being introduced by a Scifi-ish realm like the Moon, rather than a more fantasy-ish realm like the Aether. I do like the concept though, and it could be balanced very easily. It also gives me an idea for the Arms slot of the Expanded Inventory.
just make a bloody mod insted of let making it into the game or just first make a bloddy mod and see if puts it in the game or i will make 100000000000000000000000000000 in your face
i hope you realise that this is impossably difficult, or so i believe. notch is making a small little company type thing with many people and alot of time involved. notch would have an easier time setting this up as it continues to get worked on and is closer to completion.
plus, what the hell is ur problem with notch's work.

Ok, so I've finally gotten caught up on the threads I read, and I'd like to throw in some thoughts:
Zurich Antlock:
I think that's a very good idea.
Midas Tears:
I think that is actually a good idea and yes it would be better for the Nether. I think that when a block comes in contact with it, the block should become something new. Becoming a gold block would be a little OP, as you could grab a stack of dirt, go to the Nether, find Midas Tears and BAM, Gold is now the most common thing you can get. Maybe a new block? Any ideas on that?
How are things in the Aether going to compare with those on earth? Like the Nether is 1/8th the size of earth. I would like for the Aether to be larger than earth. like 4x. Just for something different. Although in SMP that could be difficult as your portal may not lead to a floating land mass. So MAYBE all locations in the Aether are random. So you don't know where your portal will lead you. Just a thought.
The nether isnt 1/8th of the size of the normal world, its infinity times larger. While the normal world will eventualy stop generateing after a few million blocks from spawn the nether will continue after it reaches this limit, even if it IS as glitchy as hell past that limit. So technicaly, the nether will never end. Ever.
i think he means that the distance of 1 block in the Nether is equal to the distance of 8 blocks in the normal world.
Okay I'll specify that I meant that distances in the nether are 1/8th. Bad wording on my part.
It's come up a number of times. Currently, it is planned for the Aether to have the block distance ratios to be reversed from that of the Nether, but not the same scale. The best shot is probably going to be a simple 2:1 ratio between how far you travel in the Aether vs how far you travel in the Overworld.
As I said in the fulgurite thread i think the stones should be 4 glowstone, 4 gold and 1 fulgurite to create 5 portal stones. Not sure how many stones should be output from the process, 5 may be too few if fulgurite is to be used.
I'd be more likely to agree to using Gold Blocks, Lapus Lazuli, or Mossy Cobblestone than some odd combination of random materials. I'm still sticking by Glowstone.
I personally think this is a FANTASTIC idea. This would add alot more exploring and fun to the game, also some kind of flying contraption, like a hanglider or a biplane sort of thing would make the game much much better.

well, I guess that it's good that this topic is good enough for you to make an account and have this as your first post!
My reasoning for the combination is that glowstone has the right "you can't go to heaven if you don't go throug hell" feel to it but looks too raw. Where gold has the right look and earthly magic to it but doesn't require you to experience the nether.
I think that the combinations means more crafting and I think that this is what the game is about.

Because Glowstone is kinda ugly...
Glowing Stone would be a Gold-Yellow Stone and glow slightly less than regular glowstone
