Are people seriously posting in this thread and not even bothering to read the opening post? or even look at it? I know it's been a while since I've last updated it, but It still exists.
No, I read it, but evidently, it hadn't loaded completely for me.
Either way, I don't like the "continual acceleration" part of quicksoil, though. I also think there would be a benefit from it being a type of ROCK rather than DIRT.
Hello guys! I haven't posted here in a long time, and I really love this thread, so i'm gonna share an idea.
I believe there should be a new kind of liquid in the Aether! I will call this...
Golden Lava [Picture will be provided soon]
This lava is a lava that is extremly cool and not extremely hot. Whenever you fall in it you start freezing up badly and start taking cold damage. Eventually if your health bar is empty and your still in the lava, regular things happen, except the stuff that happens to your items when it falls into it will be the following:
Anything you have will turn into gold things corresponding to what they are, which will be stated below:
Tools = Gold Tools (Ex. If you have a Diamond Pickaxe it will turn into a Gold Pickaxe.)
Armour = Gold Armour
Iron Ingots or Diamonds = Gold Ingots
Other Items [Not Aether Items] = Disintegrate
Other Items [Aether Items] = Disintegrate (Very small chance of one of them turning into diamonds.)
After this stuff happens to your items, they will 'jump' out of the lava for you to pick up when you get back in the Aether. Whenever water is poured on it, it will turn into Golden Obsidian. When mined with an Enchanted Pickaxe or Gold Pickaxe, (In this case the Enchanted Pickaxe will mine it faster) you will get either the Golden Obsidian itself, a Gold Ingot, or a rare chance of getting a Diamond from it. Although this can only occur when you mine it in the Aether. Mining it in the regular world will get you the Golden Obsidian back or just the regular Obsidian. The Golden Obsidian itself when you get it in your inventory will be used for the same purposes as regular Obsidian.
I find this idea to be a good idea. Correct me on this idea if you see any problems with it.

That sounds like a pretty cool idea, but how rare is it?
It would be common inside of islands and mountains in the Aether, at the surface it would be pretty rare.
By using it as the fuel in a furnace, it will instead CHILL the material being "smelted"
This can be used with buckets of lava to create Obsidian (just like the Cake recipe, the empty buckets will be left in the smelting input grid) This will allow Obsidian to be gathered into the inventory without needing a Pickaxe to Mine it. This will not only make building portals easier (such as gathering obsidian for building portals without needing to leave the Nether) but will also provide alternate options for recipes to be proposed to craft things out of obsidian without ONLY being able to do it after getting a Diamond Pickaxe.
This can be used with buckets of water to create Snow blocks (just like the Cake recipe, the empty buckets will be left in the smelting input grid) This will allow Snow to be gathered without needing to specifically find a "winter" biome.
Also allows the potential for new food recipes like ICE CREAM.
Possibility to "chill" slime balls dropped from slimes to CREATE friendly slime mobs (jello needs to chill after mixing it in order to set) Also, don't forget the ability to dye the color of these friendly slimes to suit your tastes.
Features:
When struck, (or activated via redstone dust) Floatsand will attempt to travel in the opposite direction from which it was struck. It's path will continue indefinitely until stopped by a physical block, or is stopped by reaching the ceiling in the sky or the edge of the currently loaded map section. NOTE: A moving Floatsand block will not change directions when struck.
When floatsand hits a block while moving, it will "strike" that block hard enough to break a sand block before stopping. If it "strikes" another Floatsand block, that block will then begin to move via the same rules.
Floatsand will break torches, ladders, flowers and other miscellaneous placed items, as well as water or lava, without stopping.

All of these ideas are amazing ideas, lets hope Ntch implements the Aether. Does anybody think that since the Nether is like a hell with tons of lava, the Aether should be on cloudblocks? I mean, these would be similar to snow blocks, but they look puffy, and they're solid. Also, in the Aether, I think below should be all clouds, not able to see the ground. If you fall, you fall 100 blocks and die. To get into the Aether, create a portal out of another new block that I think i'll call golden ice. With the above idea for the item in the furnace to chill the item being smelted (making blue flames), you make ice, and then craft it with gold bars. Example of the crafting recipe below. []

Either way, I don't like the "continual acceleration" part of quicksoil, though. I also think there would be a benefit from it being a type of ROCK rather than DIRT.
I see no advantages, except for making it more troublesome to move around and you can't plant anything in it, which doesn't strike me as advantageous. That's the only difference between dirt and rock.
Quote from porotoman99 »
I didn't mean it like that. I meant something that would turn glass into sand, clay bricks into clay balls, charcoal into wood, etc.
Aside from how little sense that makes, I can't even figure out what benefit this would have. The only thing you can do with clay balls is either smelt them back into clay bricks, or craft them back into clay blocks, but if you wanted clay blocks, why did you make them into clay bricks? It would be easier to just grow more wood, and sand is, pardon the pun, dirt cheap.

Okay, first of all, yes, it sounds really cool and all, but here's what I got from reading the idea, please don't take this too personally though.
I believe there should be a new kind of liquid in the Aether! I will call this...
GOLDEN LAVATHIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH LAVA, BUT I CAN'T THINK OF A COOL NAME THAT MAKE SENSE [Picture will be provided soonif someone is nice enough to provide it]
This lavastuffis a lavahas no relation to lava that is extremly cool and not extremely hot. Whenever you fall in it you start freezing up badly and start taking cold damage. Eventually if your health bar is empty and your still in the lava, regular things happen,I apparently don't know if dying is a regular thing to happen when you run out of health except the stuff that happens to your items when it falls into it will be the following:
Anything you have will turn into gold things corresponding to what they are, which will be stated below:
Tools = Gold Tools (Ex. If you have a Diamond Pickaxe it will turn into a Gold Pickaxe.)
Armour = Gold Armour
Iron Ingots or Diamonds = Gold Ingots
Other Items [Not Aether Items] = Disintegrate
Other Items [Aether Items] = Disintegrate (Very small chance of one of them turning into diamonds.) I don't know how I got this far without the term "Midas" popping into my head.
After this stuff happens to your items, they will 'jump' out of the lava for you to pick up when you get back in the Aether. Whenever water is poured on it, it will turn into Golden Obsidian. When mined with an Enchanted Pickaxe or Gold Pickaxe, (In this case the Enchanted Pickaxe will mine it faster) you will get either the Golden Obsidian itself, a Gold Ingot, or a rare chance of getting a Diamond from it, because I still feel pretty bad about that whole "turning your tools armor to gold" thing, **** move adding insult to injuring there, so maybe I can get people to like the idea by buying them off with the promise of getting diamonds. Although this can only occur when you mine it in the Aether. Mining it in the regular world will get you the Golden Obsidian back or just the regular Obsidian, not that there's any reason for people to take this stuff out of the Aether before they mine it, but I don't want people to think it'll be TOO easy to get diamonds. The Golden Obsidian itself when you get it in your inventory will be used for the same purposes as regular Obsidian.
I find this idea to be a good idea. Correct me on this idea if you see any problems with it.
Now, roast aside, it's really not that bad of an idea, I also appreciate that it's pretty obviously designed to support the inclusion of Enchanted Gold Items. It just needs some serious polishing and to narrow its scope to a proper theme.
First of all, the name; This has nothing to do with Lava, so don't use lava in the name. Midas Brew, Midas Flow, Font Midas, pretty much ANYTHING involving the term "Midas" is pretty much impossible to avoid using to describe this material. My personal favorite; "Midas Tears" Holy crap that is so perfect of a name I just shivered.
By getting rid of the lava element, we can skip all of the associated properties; directly damaging the player, hardening when in contact with water, being named obsidian when hardened, any connection to diamonds, etc. Pretty much every non-unique property is now free to be changed in order to better accentuate those features that are unique.
So next we focus on those properties that are unique, namely changing things to gold; If Midas Tears don't directly damage the player, then it would get rather ridiculous to need to die for the items to change, therefor whatever the player is currently HOLDING should get changed to gold, even if they don't drop it. Of course dropping an item into Midas Tears should also turn it to gold.
Now obviously this would be a straight ***** for everything without the inclusion of the Magic Furnace. Gold sucks even worse than wood, and is only barely better than leather. So under these circumstances you have free reign to turn EVERYTHING into gold;
All Tools turn to Gold equivalents
All Armors turns to Gold equivalents
Compass changes into Watch
Iron Ore turns into Gold Ore
Iron Ingots/Diamonds turn into Gold Ingots
Diamond/Iron blocks turn into Gold Blocks
Redstone dust and gunpowder turns into Glowstone Dust
Harder blocks like cobblestone turn into Gold Ingots
weaker blocks like dirt and glass turn into Gold Ore.
items that only are only inventory, or are translucent like saplings and flowers will turn into glowstone dust.
Now if the Magic Furnace IS implemented, then Gold becomes INCREDIBLY useful. At that rate, Only Iron and Diamond should be affected;
All Tools turn to Gold equivalents
Enchanted Tools revert back to Gold Tools
All Armors turns to Gold equivalents
Enchanted Armor reverts back to Gold Armor
Compass changes into Watch
Iron Ore turns into Gold Ore
Iron Ingots/Diamonds turn into Gold Ingots
Diamond/Iron blocks turn into Gold Blocks
Redstone dust and gunpowder turns into Glowstone Dust
Enchanted Furnace reverts back into Magic Furnace
Other items are left unaltered
If the player DOES die while in Midas Tears,(just by drowning or by getting killed while in it) then wherever the player falls should be replaced with 2 Gold Blocks, (Mining a Gold Block when it is touching Midas Tears should cause the gold block to be replaced with a Midas Tears Spring block after being mined) and the items that are scattered will be turned to gold accordingly.
Also, when Midas Tears touches any other water, then the water should also be treated as "temporary" Midas Tears which will revert back to water if the actual Midas Tear Spring block is removed.
To balance out potential overpowering, Midas Tears should evaporate when attempting to place in the Overworld or the Nether.
Also, I personally see this fitting better in the Nether. Which I might just add it to the Opening Post's list as such.
I actually think we should come to a compromise with this quicksoil vs. aerorock thing, like a way of turning quicksoil INTO aerorock. Smelting, perhaps? It eliminates a couple of the beneficial applications (really, just farming), but also eliminates many of the hazards as well and brings new benefits to the table (presents a set speed (which prevents collision damage), has more predictable effects, offers a slightly higher jump boost, no "loss of air" concern) , bringing something of a balance.
Not going to happen. Quicksoil has absolutely no relation to Aetherock, neither in name, nor function, nor where they generate. There's also no reason for Quicksoil to be named "Aeth-"anything because it's not called "NetherSAND" it's called Soul Sand. The Netherrack is a block that catches on fire and burns endlessly, just like how the Nether is constantly full of lava, and Aetherock is insubstantial, just like how the Aether is mostly empty air.

Are you even paying attention to what I'm talking about? I present a valid and effective concept for making this "Aether" more interesting, while simultaneously not being too outrageous like many other ideas, and you shoot it down due to the name? That's absolutely retarded, especially since "aero" IS NOT THE SAME THING AS "aether". They're similar, I'll admit, but a good portion of the similarities are superficial.
The concept that I mentioned has a very similar application to your "quicksoil", but functions slightly differently. It has a different speed effect, a different jump effect, and it doesn't present the possibility of killing you. I was talking about the possibility of using the two IN TANDEM to have the functions of both, by utilizing one to create the other. I am not talking about your "hidden passage" rock, but an entirely different concept that would bring a plethora of new functions to the world of Minecraft. Ignore the damned name and pay attention to the opportunities.
sorry, typos and "Aetherock should be an opposite of Netherrack" have both been prevalent in this thread. It's been a while since the post that actually specified what you meant by "aerorock" so I was assuming you misread how Aetherock was written. Heck, I didn't even realize you were the same person who had made that post.
And no, there's already Galestone and Flowvein that use smelting to shift between the two. No more.
You can ALREADY get a continuous speed and no damage by just spacing the quicksoil out properly so you aren't CONSTANTLY running over it. While you're running on quicksoil, you accelerate, while not running on quicksoil, you decelerate, so by alternating back and forth, you get what is effectively constant speed, and as long as you space it out right so that you aren't always running at max speed, your oxygen will be able to replenish as well so that there's no danger. There's no reason at all to add a new block by ANY methods when the block that is already there can do the job by itself.
Thanks for the contribution attempt, but sorry, I'm just not going to throw in every idea that someone comes up with into the opening post.
As soon as I clicked this page, I saw a picture. and in it, was what appeared to be a flying whale. And thus, this immediately earned my support. Because flying whales, are win. :l
I'm extremely impressed, with your post. I had just finished reading the Nether Update thread, and I absolutely loved it, posting an epic/drama post. But alas, I'm too tired to make one here. SO instead, I say, I approve, and you've earned my support. I hope notch seriously considers this update.
I'd prefer the Nether was first improved before adding another realm. This idea would be great in the future nevertheless.
The "Nether - Update" thread has that covered, just think of it as if the Nether was already upgraded by both this thread's standards and the "Nether - Update" thread's standards.
That being said . . . Grey, you should go to the Nether thread and see if there is anything Aether usable since they actually have quite a lot. For example they took Connour's (aka AndrewJohn1995's old account) darkwood idea to make a freezer and so forth . . .
So yeah, see if there is anything you could incorporate with this thread, they did the same with ours.
just make a bloody mod insted of let making it into the game or just first make a bloddy mod and see if puts it in the game or i will make 100000000000000000000000000000 in your face
