It would basically look like an Iron Block except it would be tinted red.
The purpose of this block, is that it would essentially disappear if it receives an ON signal, and reappear if it receives an OFF signal. When a redstone block receives an ON signal and disappears, it also transmits an ON signal to any connected redstone blocks.
Also these blocks would emit a small amount of light.
This item would have 2 obvious uses:
1: Floodgates!
OFF [] []
ON
OFF AGAIN [] []
2: Large Doors!

Crafting recipe would be 8 redstone dusts surrounding a redstone torch.
I do foresee a problem though. Making large doors or trap areas is no problem since the signal would just alter the block properties to non-solid and to use the air texture, however it might be a problem to allow water to flow through it. Maybe make it so if off, check for adjacent water and continue the flow ahead of it.
Question. What happens if you place a block where a disappeared redstone block is? Or can only moving fluids go there, and the moving fluid block vanishes when the redstone block reappears?

You wouldn't be able to place a block where the redstone block is supposed to be. The only way to regain that spot is to make it reappear and mine it out with a pickaxe.
As for fluid, it would probably just check for adjacent fluids and make sure it continues through it, but probably without it appearing where the redstone block is.
Also maybe it would become transparent but still noticeable when activated.

This is a great idea! :happy.gif: Hehe, I always wanted to make a pit of death with a trap door, or traps to guard my stuff on SMP with :biggrin.gif:
Tree punchers. Everyone knows you use a pickaxe for rock, not your fists.
