note: I really think any pure sky based creatures would only be feasible if/when the height limit is increased. Right now the skies are too small for anything like this or any other sky creature I'm likely to suggest.
New Mob Idea:Zephyr
Environment: The sky! (Possibly Ether) AI: Hostile Drop: Not Sure... Misc: This hostile floating cloud with a face doesn't directly attack you, but will attempt to push you off high places and to your doom with it's gale force breath.
Possible that gold weapons could be the only way to defeat the Zephyr (I'm warming to the idea of gold being the catch-all material for attacking other worldly creatures, much like silver might be used to attack a werewolf). Non-gold weapons would be mostly ineffective against this creature.
A possible counter would be to make stone boots. The stone boots would weigh you down and make it harder for you to be pushed around. Of course the stone boots would also make you slower normally.
A very simple mob idea, granted. But I think it could be cool if floating islands ever became a norm, or if the height limit were changed. This guy could only spawn in the upper most areas of the sky and you'd only encounter him if you ventured up large mountains.

Variant:Tempest
Environment: The sky, during thunderstorms (Possibly Ether) AI: Hostile Drop: Not Sure... Misc: A very rare spawn in high altitudes that only spawns during vicious thunderstorms. The tempest does not bother with blowing you around like it's more benign cousin. Instead, it hurls bolts of lightning at it's intended target.
Lightning, though incredibly impressive and destructive, is not terribly accurate. The bolt strikes instantly, but may hit any block within a certain radius (I'm thinking 6 - 10 blocks). Seeking cover is the easiest way to ensure safety. The Tempest will fade with the storm.
Gold boots. There are no stone boots and gold boots already exist, so just allow gold boots to cover that aspect as well. Actually this could be skipped, just make it so that sneaking will help you stand up to the wind, but ultimately only placing a block behind you will let you stand up to a full force gale from this thing.
Also, i feel like they're too dark. I'd love to see them lighter so they can blend in a little better with Minecraft clouds. Maybe even make them translucent.
I always thought of the Zephyr as a giant blue-grey bird. Kinda like a pheonix of wind instead of fire. This guy seems more like an air elemental or some-such.
Agreed, made them lighter. Big problem is that the forums are a very light color so it makes anything other than white seem dark. Put a darker background behind it to help.
Zephyr is really just a strong gust of wind, it can refer to the mythological creature you're referring to, but I've taken some liberties with the word.
Another fine and wellmade MOB suggestion.
I like all of your suggestions. There really should be a program for implenting fan made mobs. It would be har but so awsome.
I think it should drop something used in Alchemy. It seems appropriate.
Now that that random note has been jotted, I approve of this suggestion.

~ I've thought about the phrase 'Money is the root of all evil' and I have to disagree. Evil isn't dependant on an object. I say that want is the root of all evil.
visible wind or just push back motion for the player?
also, gold weapons to kill all monsters on the ether? or just these clouds?
I don't think you'd need gold to kill or mine everything, just the insubstantial stuff.

That's much better, but is there any way you can make them transparent? Like have the texture on their far sides show through and be able to see things behind them? I think this is really essential for their initial ability to blend in with the clouds, and also to be able to convey the fact that they are not solid creatures and thus need special weapons to affect them.
Always love a nice mob model.
This one looks really simple, and could be feasible to just use the standard rectangle hitbox (the one spider uses).
And a different ways of attack is also interesting.
P.S. Can you stand on it?
If you can stand on the Aerwhale, and you can use gold boots to stand on Etherstone, then I'd imagine wearing gold boots should let you stand on these things too.
They should clearly drop Kites, and clearly these kites should be magically rubbed off on such that they can perpetually float, and as long as the player has enough string/rope they can use the kite to get to higher places.
Kite:
Wield. Right clicking an empty space will deploy the kite and holding it down will cause it to slowly rise until you run out of string/rope or it runs out of room. The end of the string/rope can be right clicked and held and you'll reel in the kite, lowering it and gathering back your string/rope, eventually getting you back the kite. Right clicking a floating kite will take the kite and you'll automatically get all the sting/rope attached.
I keep saying string/rope because I can't decide between keeping it simple and just using string for fun, or having it make more sense by needing rope to climb.

It should have an animation where it puffs up like a blowfish, then blows out the wind at you, which it shrinks smaller until its smaller then its actual size, which then it returns to normal and has to cooldown its attack.

^This seems like the best idea to me for how to avoid the force of the Zephyr's attack. Having to go to your inventory and equip something seems rather awkward and time consuming. This would especially inconvenient if it snuck up on you while you were near the edge of a cliff, because by the time you'd have opened up your inventory and selected the boots, you'd be hurtling downwards towards your death.

yes, yes, I am rushing the lizards idea but I think it could work :>

Firehazurd, have you heard any word on any of them?
Actually they could drop both. The kite idea of mine was meant more of as a rarity than anything - I do like the song stones - fits em perfectly.
