So last night I had a bit of a dream about minecraft (as you do), and it was about this sludge block called tar. The idea is that it's a grey sludgelike substance with about the same density and speed as lava.
Features:
- Same speed and density as lava
- Players move half speed through it
- Players loose 1/2 heart every two seconds they are in it
- Anything can drown in it
- Non-hostile mobs become sickened if they touch it and become hostile
- Sickened mobs are not affected by the health degeneration of being in the tar
- Undead mobs are not affected by the health degeneration of being in the tar
Might be a stupid suggestion, but it was pretty cool and scary in my dream :tongue.gif:
Could be really cool. I'd like to see it implimented, especially as a feature of swamps. Possible alternate would be mud that could dry to dirt when not in the general area of water or mud sources.
Also, the "sicken" idea doesn't sound very good. Hostile cows sound more farcical than scary.
You've never been to an actual farm that has cows on it, huh?
@Tar: The other people posting here so far some pretty good points. I think we should just go with it, though, as in come up with answers for the questions we're asking; it is a suggestion thread, after all. I don't think it should do damage, I just don't. I think it should spawn inland, away from water, in small but relatively deep patches. You'd be able to harvest it for usage in furnaces (one bucket of tar would be the same as sixteen coal blocks) or just burn it; I don't think it'd ever really burn down, and it'd be a fluid. That'd be really interesting, having a fluid that could be on fire.
Tar could also be used with gravel to make asphalt. That would give us a dark gray building material about as hard as cobblestone and a lot easier to acquire.

Wouldn't it be harder to acquire? Cobblestone is really easy to get. I have a chest full of it.
I mean, basically the whole world is rock.
Yeah, it'd be harder to acquire, and it won't have any crafting use as of yet. On the other hand, asphalt won't get moss on it (whenever that comes into play). Maybe it could have a higher explosion resistance or something to that extent, too.

Why does it do damage?
