What about a giant albatross? He just kinda flies just below or above cloud level. Since he's so big, you can jump on him (provided you're first at the proper height and get lucky enough to have him fly near) and ride him for a while (he'll slowly drop towards the ground as long as you stay on top) Unfortunately they suck at landing, so if you force him to the ground, it'll kill him, jumping off just before he hits the ground would be the more polite method. If you kill an albatross, all other albatross will attempt to evade you when you try to jump on them.
I'm going to have to do some sketching and pondering. I will probably stray from bird ideas though. Something about them doesn't mesh with me... We'll see what happens.
hate mimics. Those would be a pain in the ass. you go and fight out a dungeon and pin down the spawner with a few torches, then turn to triumphantly collect your lewt when you right click and the chest starts to ATTACK YOU. Actually, now that i think about it, that sounds rather interesting, but they should be BLOODY rare and drop something that ONLY MIMICS would drop, in addition to conventional items
ON TOPIC: +1 yess
Though for christ's sake man, they would need to drop something pretty good. I mean that sounds like the sort of thing that could send you back to your spawn in a hurry.
actually i was thinking a golden apple or two. Either that or a rare metal/gem, tnt, or obsidian. But i was thinking more that the chest releases like 3 smaller mimics when you open it, kind of like a mimic trap. They'd be relatively weak, but come in hordes in order to overpower you

Ah just had an inkling. what if one mimic in the group dropped a mimic heart, which looked like an octagon w/ the same design as a monster spawner. Then when you combined it with a chest, it made a friendly mimic that would follow you and serve as a portable storage? Maybe half of your inventory space, but if it gets attacked it dies and drops all the items it had
For the troll to move around, how many blocks of space does it take up?
This. I'm totally thinking this could be a problem. Lets say you're out doing your mining thing, when you hear the dreaded roar of the troll. you turn in fear to see where the threat is, only to find yourself utterly safe as said troll is A: stuck behind a wall, or even worse, a singular double-stack of stone, or B: at the bottom of a large cliff and out of reach of you, or worse, at the bottom of a 2 block high cliff it cannot jump up. it obviously would need greater jumping capabilities vs the regular mobs, but not too much, and maybe the capability to railroad through a set number of blocks before it stops and has to backup and charge again to get at you.
I would be against smashing through blocks as it charged, but I wouldn't be against the troll occupying the same bounding box as the player, nor giving him a slightly higher jump. I agree that seeing the troll stuck between two trees would suck, but I wouldn't be against the troll roaring and charging and then finding a cliff between you. Where he stops and grunts angrily in frustration. Cliff recognition is not in the game (as far as I know (has anyone seen a zombie pigman walk off a cliff?)), but it could be cool.
FireHazard, i think I have an idea for the troll drop. Now this may seem a little gruesome, but what if it dropped its eyes, which you could use an iron ingot and two eyes to make night-vision goggles?

Any feedback on the troll-stone idea?
Absolutely 100%. It's brilliant
Anyways, I'm loving these ideas of yours, looking forward to your future ones.
