Most minecrafters have come across slimes and their drops. But what purpose do they serve? I'm here to tell you some ideas that they can be used for. (Slime Ball = )
Blue Titles are MY IDEAS
Red Titles are OTHER PEOPLES' IDEAS
[Sorry if I take anyone's ideas, PM me and I'll give credit where it is due]
Idea 1: Negation of Fall Damage
In the crafting table place slime balls like this:
[] [] []
[] [] []
--Basically placed like half-steps (placed anywhere as well) Purpose: When placed on ground (same layer as snow, but green and almost clear) negates any fall damage when landed on. This is useful for dropping from high cliffs to escape monsters or just faster travel.
Idea 2: Useable Slow-effect (or Slimeballs)
In the crafting table place slime balls like this:
[] [] []
[]
[]
--Small 2x2 square, still placed anywhere in form in the crafting table. Purpose: Basically self explanatory. Has 25 uses and used like an arrow. When coming in contact to hostiles or passive animals, it momentarily splits there speed by half for 10 seconds.
Idea 3: Poisons Weapons (For this example; Sword =
In the crafting table, shown as: EDIT: (Suggested by Naithal)
[] []
Purpose of the extra stick is so you don't poison the handle as well.
--Weapons include: Swords and Arrows (Arrows can be poisoned in groups of 16) Arrows:
[] [] []
[] []
[] [] Purpose: Again, self-explanatory. Adds 2x damage to the weapon at hand. Same durability as the unpoisoned weapon type.
(Suggested by Spino) Idea 4: Slime Bomb (Little Modified)
In the crafting table, shown as:
--Basically shaped like a TNT. Purpose: Immediately immobilizes surrounding creatures (including self) in a 15-square radius. Destroys block in 5-block radius. OR (Suggested by EliminatorZigma) It can act as a distracting box, which will draw the attention of mobs. It will last 3 days and night of game time.
EDIT: (Suggested by Ekulio) Idea 6: Slime Stairs (Again Modified)
In the crafting table shown as:
[] []
[]
--Shaped like stairs. Duh. Purpose: When placed, and stepped on, will push the mob (zombies, creepers, etc.) to the bottom step, but human players will be unaffected and they will be normal stairs. When set in a multiple rows, can act as a barrier to keep a safe walkway. For example:
-- Stairs for escape and keep mobs at bay. Also walking on the top center dirt will be the safe walkway. Stepping on the slime stairs will push you to the side, gravity will pull you down.
Idea 7: Slime Boots(Suggested by Lackrome1)
Crafting table shown as:
Purpose: Will make the wearer able to jump 3 blocks high. (Because if you normal jump from the ground, any fall higher than 3 blocks will result in damage taken). Uses 300. Cannot be harmed by mobs. When not equipped, the user will only be able to jump 1 square high.
Idea 8: Slime Pet(Suggested by lots of users)
Crafting table shown as:
--The cooked meat acts as a heart, basically. Purpose: Follows you around as a companion. Has a 3x3 inventory. It follows your path exactly, so where you walk it walks, and if you fall off a block, it will fall off at the exact same place. [This is to prevent slime pet from getting lost]. LIMIT ONE OUT A TIME. Health includes 5 hearts, and it can be healed by food given to it. Takes fall damage as well. Hovering your cursor over the slime pet will show how many hearts it has. Right-clicking on the pet will open inventory. **Make sure you are not holding anything dangerous**
Idea 9: Slime Bucket USES (I'm not talking about the slime bucket itself, just its uses)
Shown in crafting table as: (Bucket: )
[] [] []
[] []
[] []
--Slime ball over bucket. Simple enough. Purposes: Can be placed in Furnace Cart. Makes the cart move easier. (I don't know about usages as I've never used a minecart, so bear with me). Bucket of slime placed on a block can only spread up to 5 blocks. Acts as liquid trapper. Movement is reduced to a third of the normal rate.
Idea 10: Jell-O(Suggested by: andrewzuniga)
In crafting table shown as: (Bowl = )
[] [] []
[] []
[] []
--Hooray for Jell-O. Purpose: Heals 4-7 hearts for every use. It randomizes. Simple to make, doesn't require much resources. Bowl has a 30% chance to be depleted. My conclusion for this is: Slimes are mysterious. The foods made with them are equally as confusing.
--Unlike the pet where there is no cooked ham in the middle. Makes group of 16 Purpose: Can be used on any block. Including source block water and lava. Contains the source or the ore inside this block of slime. It does cut off flow of lava and water. Takes about 1 second to break the cover off the block or source with hand. You do get the cover back. The water or lava will continue to flow once more. This can be used if you want to collect a block later (more for source water or lava) but want to limit the flow or walk over it. YES, SLIME COVER CAN BE WALKED ON.
Group Idea(Suggested by: GerbilCrab475)
I see slime ideas that make slimes all slippery, bouncy, tasty, poisonous and sticky. Now one thing can't be all of these because many of these are counteractive.
There should be varieties of slimes, each one with a different color scheme and ability.
Greens are bouncy, they jump really high to reach players. Their slime balls can be used to make trampolines and bouncy shoes.
Purples are poisonous, they spit poisonous goop at players. Their slime balls can be used to make poison arrows or acid pits.
Blues are slippery, they slide around quickly and can out run players. Their slime balls can be used to make surfaces slippery.
Orange slimes are hard, they can take massive amounts of damage. Their slime shards can be used to make orange slime armor which is stronger than iron but weaker than diamond.
Yellows are sticky, they can climb up walls like spiders. Their slime balls can be used to make traps or sticky boots that would allow players to climb any wall.
Reds are tasty and will run from players. Their slime balls can be used to make Jello, which will heal you by 7 hearts since red slimes are rare.
Self-explanatory, but I REALLY like this idea. DIfferent mobs give different outcomes.

Best uses of slimeballs I have seen yet! And also a somewhat easier poison system for Notch to make, since it just increases the weapons damage instead of adding a DOT effect. Just a couple changes:
1: Have the poison recipe be
[] []
[] []
so we use less of a extremely rare resource when poisoning.
2: Get rid of the slowballs, and just have that produce a small slime pet to follow you around. Or use as a minecart power source. Come on slime, do it for country!
As I have seen in earlier topics, people have suggested crafting slime balls into blocks that are rubbery. Maybe when jumped on it automatically makes you jump again or multiplies your jump height by 1.5 for that bounce. Maybe the slime balls themselves could act like a snow ball that slows people down when hit (Like you suggested) without having to be placed in a crafting table? They are balls already so why should they have to be crafted?

Yes i like the idea of poisoning in crafting table better, but i have actually come across slimes too often in my mine. Only have i found them at night right above unbreakable blocks.
--As of slime pets: They seem useless but I guess its good company. Or have them jump at a faster rate when you get close to enemies. (good warning system)
I've thought of slime ball uses, and in one of my threads, I came up with one such device.
Mind if I drop it in here?
This DOES seem like a slimeball megathread.

The DANGER DETECTING DEVICE.
Basically, it will tell you, based on depth and light levels, whether or not a block is monster-spawnable.
------------I like the idea, but I don;t see how it could show information. It would be good if you could tell me how it did that.

Or perhaps make it possible to scoop the slime up into buckets, then douse a square if you need to slow a would-be attacker?
-----Unfortuantely, would you want to be close to your attacker and have to precisely guess where your attacker is gonna walk and hope it walks into the trap, or have a ranged attack that slows them down the same way and not have much a risk?
----As mentioned in an earlier post the slimeball should be able to be thrown by itself. Yet the user missed some of my details. It has 25 uses, and it is no longer just a slimeball, more like: a slimepack.-----
What if we used them to create small slimes?
Those things would make great Minecraft pets, and its easier than trying to get one to follow you all the way to the surface.
Holy crap I can post things. Players should be able to create on a scale they they don't have the tools to right now. See what I mean :viewtopic.php?f=1&t=77448&p=1185259#p1185259
I honestly like the idea, of the balls of slime being used for fishing.. I just like the idea a lot =)
Like a fish running into the ball and getting caught? It would be hard to implement, and funny thing is, I haven't even used the fishing rod yet. I haven't even bought the game. I DL-ed on a free-to-play weekend. So I wouldn't even get these updates if they were to go through. But getting your own idea into an amazing game would be a fantastic moment.
I love the trampoline idea. I would like to run with the idea that slime is the minecraft equivalent of Flubber.

I don't know if it would be a booster, but it could reduce friction so the speed would be conserved longer, however it would act as a booster if this track piece was placed on a donwhill facing track piece.

Slimeballs are extremely rare, having a minecart track, a single one, serve such a little purpose is an extremely bad idea. A booster track piece is an extremely good idea, and having slime be a sort of flubber is awesome. It would also make my brother extremely happy, as he only uses minecarts over long distances and hoards his coal for torches, but dislikes exploiting bugs.
Well, my thinking is that then brake pieces would use redstone like this:
[]
[]
Both the booster and brake pieces would then have a light in the middle, green for boosters and red for brake (green=slime=go and red=redstone=stop, obviously) the pieces would also be controlled by redstone wiring, with the lights turning off if the brake or booster was disabled, in which case they would both behave like regular track pieces.
I think this would make for much more intuitive minecart stations and much simpler wiring, with convenient lights telling you to stop or go.
I realize this was a bit off-topic, but it's a thought. Also if slime becomes too useful I'm sure the little runts will become more common.

Minecart booster piece:

Self-explanatory.
I like the stairs idea, but instead of speed increase, it pushes you down below the last stair. So if you had blocks placed like this as a walkway: ( =slime stairs)
[] [] [] [] [] [] --top
[] [] [] []
[] [] --bottom
Then walking on the top center dirt will be the safe walkway. Stepping on the slime stairs will push you to the side, gravity will pull you down.
--As for the booster piece, you said you like the idea of slime being like Flubber, and boosting would contradict that statement. Slime is a gooey substance that slows things down, so it could be used to slow, or stop, minecarts when going downhill.

This is exactly what I was thinking, it would accellate you down the slide. however, of you hit level ground
You would continue flying forward across the level ground a bit. This would basically allow you to create mob cannons, flying further the longer the ramp is.

I don't think you understand what Flubber is...the idea is that "slime" would be an elastic bouncy substance.
My own idea with the boots, btw, would be that they would allow the player to jump 2-3 blocks high. The only issue with that is I don't want to render fences useless. Maybe if the boots broke after a while?

Yea I get what your saying. I thought of it as jello. :smile.gif: But fences wouldnt be useless because they would still block mobs. The boots would act like springs. I like that idea, but I don't think ill add armor quite yet.
Question. When going down slime stairs, would fall damage still apply with the speed increase, after coming in contact with the ground?
