Reason being so you could retrieve items from the crafting process, like empty buckets from recipes that would require buckets full of things.

Then add these recipes:

Results in Cake Batter and Empty Bucket
= Bucket of Milk
= Egg

Then:

Furnace Recipe:

Results in Cake

= Cake Batter




Then you wouldn't waste a whole bucket when using a bucket of milk.
