Does anyone think besiudes me that there should be a kraken?
Mob name: Kraken
Damage: 4 hearts
Speed: very slow
Spawn conditions: light level of 10 or below, in water at least 5 blocks deep, and 5 blocks wide.
Size: About 3 or 4x the size of a regular squid.
Appearance: just a squid, but giant, and its eyes are slanted to look mad.
Notes: it only does that much damage because it is so large & slow.
I think it should be very fast and have a pretty low spawn rate (so it is feared by all!)
Love the idea though...
Why thank you. But how about medium speed, to compromise? I mean, something that big wouldn't be able to move very fast. And I already mean that the spawn rate would be low. I mean, what would people think if a legendary sea monster just started spawning about as often as a creeper???? GRIEF.

I think the problem her is we need use a scale with values not just 'slow, medium, fast'...
I propose a speed slightly faster then some of the larger, slower ships, so it's only really dangerous long trips far away form land....
My opinion? I posted something almost exactly like this awhile back. But this has some good ideas.
I'm sorry if I offended you in any way; i don't look through every page so I can assure you that I didn't intend to copy any of your ideas.

This is the first thread without the people saying: "Minecraft's theme is medieval, and all that modern and future stuff is crap and should not be seen anywhere in the forum!"
Yes, i feel as if minecraft should start out medieval tech but as you get more stuff you should be able to craft more modern and high tech things.
Although I do admit I went a little over the top...
No you didn't offend me, i was just stating that i had a suggestion like that. And who said minecraft was medieval? People only say that based on what is currently in minecraft. And then it's only because the modern things are also considered "overpowered"

I believe Notch said something about wanting to keep minecraft medieval one or twice (but don't quote me on it)...
The basics here are great. underwater biomes, plant life, resources, and some form of air supply extension. care should be taken though with too many new mobs which would be incongruous in the world as it is, and some of the high tech stuff would detract from the simplicity of the game.
We definitely need something bigger and more permanent than the boat though. and the ability to customize your ship and possibly wander around on its deck and store stuff in it interests me. it would be nice if it could be built in situ (possibly from blocks rather than crafting), as this would feel more authentic (and a greater achievement) than crafting a 300 ton sailing ship and somehow carrying it to the water in your pocket.
Some unique resources out at see are needed to make it worth going there, lest it end up as another nether (boring and unused). all in all I support this suggestion.
I love this idea so far. but... we need more underwater mobs.
forgive me for completely nerding out, but I believe that we could rather easily add something called a "giant isopod" (that's it's name irl, we could obviously change it along the road)
basically, I want to give this thing the properties that it would have in real life, so...
about 1 block in size.
rolls into a ball (or block, as the case may be) when threatened (i.e. attacked)
is fairly weak but with a strong shell.
will not attack you under any circumstances.
spawns on clay (rarely) at depths of... the bottom of the ocean.
drops 1-2 isopod-meat (restores 3 hearts uncooked, 5 when cooked) and 3-6 isopod shell, which doesn't even have a potential use yet... maybe could be made into armor, or tools with strength of diamond but durability of wood... idk, idea still needs work.
when rolled into a ball, they can be "mined" with your bare hands, and will only "revive" underwater, making a stylish block that still drops meat & shells, when harvested with a sword :tongue.gif:.
so... what do you think? Questions? considerations? curious as to it's existence irl? (tastes good with rice and butter)

I agree building a boat out of blocks would be much better. Maybe you add a special block that turns every block connected to it (as long as it's not attached to the ground) into one solid boat... (unfortunately this would probably be super-taxing on your computer :/ )
I like the idea in the post above of converting a whole bunch of blocks to a boat.
Search for block grid entities, a post by Mystify is pretty good with this concept. AFAIK there has been mention of a 16x16x16 area, which disappoints me as I'd love to build large supermassive ships and submarines (if flood chambers are possibe) and airships (if floating blocks are possible). I'm all for the ocean ideas presented here, except prefab boats and subs. I want to build my own subs and boats out of blocks.
and mark places with different colored puoys and make boat hit shallow reefs and broke down and passably sail with a pice of plank
Ok, first, SPELLCHECK. Secondly, reefs - maybe, break down - maybe, buoys - NO. Buoys are modern. How would a guy who just randomly woke up on an island with monsters & stuff create a buoy?
I am very much in support of this idea. I'd love to have coral reefs or the like that I can explore, since after a while caves get kinda samey. Plus any way that you could get greater or even infinite air would be nice. (I didn't read the whole thread, but has there been any suggestion of air tanks that refill all your bubbles when you use them? Would work like food for your breath)

Plus sharkcraft would be awesome :biggrin.gif:
Hmm, unless I'm going crazy I don't remember that being suggested. I love the idea though, to have extra tanks that can be used to replenish air while under water! one question though, would they be one time use or would you be able to refill them on the surface?
Submarine Idea!
Submarine: It would be a sphere with a light source on top and three windows with a door on the back. It wouldn't move depending on where your looking. It would also have a lever on the inside.
Hull:
= Wood Door
= Lever
Partially Working V1:Can't move.
[] [] [] = Hull
[] [] = Underwater Torch
[] []
Underwater Torch: can be placed (surprise!) underwater. Helps you see underwater.

hmm i like your simplified idea for submarines (as mine was ridiculous) but I'm a little confused what the practicality of a moving submarine that you can't see out of / can't move of would be. please explain...

Just to kind of allow you to make it cheaper. Not really any use of them. Mostly to help people understand the stages a bit easier. That way you can just say V1 can't move while V2 can. Best way I can put it is that it's their so that you can see that step.

However, something VERY similar to this is already on the front page, not too far down, either, so hopefully that gets implemented.
Still, click it.

Also, maybe like while you're in your boat you have like a 1-2% chance of being attacked by a shark:o
