When you read my signature, Another Kitty dies tonight.
since you mention danger in the ocean, have you thought of Mines in the water?
that would explode when touched maybe? since there isnt gonna be any creepers down there we will need another source of dangerous explosions.
Shhh dont suggest that, let the seas be free of the silly explosions of those land folk
This is really cool! Lately I've been in such an Oceany mood...I've also been doing a lot with Plastic Craft. What I think would be really cool is having ship battles with friends on Multiplayer Servers. Making underwater homes with Aquariums. I support this. Also, I have a suggestion for Speed Boats.

I think you'd need...Some kind of material to make to the make the whole boat. Maybe iron
[] [] [] []
I suppose, this boat alone could be the Iron Boat. Which could wouldn't break like the Wooden boat, but goes slightly slower.
Then you'd need a Motor. Possibly this = Redstone

Then you'd do this = Iron Boat and = Motor

Then you'd have a Speed Boat, which is unbreakable, short of a tool. And goes 3x Faster than the Wooden Boat. You'd also need a fuel, possibly Coal, to power the Motor. Or once Notch adds Oil, which I think he will, you could use that.
Sound good? Oh, and you could also modify the game to a point where if you're holding a Fishing Rod, you won't jump out if you Right-Click. Wether you're casting the line or reeling in the fish. If you're holding anything else, you can get In/Out with Right-Click.
I'm planning on building an underwater house out of glass, so I'm dying to have pretty little coloured fish, dolphins, sharks and of course the plant life.
It'd be great if I'm just passing through rooms and there's a massive shark stalking me outside.
Yeah I agree, underwater bases are already pretty cool already but I know if there was a multitude of cool things I would just sit there watching them or possibly get out there and wrestle that shark. Even if I lost it would still be epic to say I fought a shark.
Shape- About the size of a single block unpuffed, it has blocky fins attached closely to it's body and a small tail.
Behavior- A passive mob, but will "puff" upon it's death. The puffer will blow up to a 3 X 3 square, and inflict 5 hearts damage upon anything inside that radius. (think mega cactus)
Drops- Will drop poison (if implemented) OR a new "puffer block".
This new block (needs a name) will expand from a normal 1X1 cube into a 3x3 cube when it is touched by water. It will contract back into a 1x1 when destroyed and picked back up. It will do damage similar to a cactus whenever anything touches it. (Awesome new water traps!)
Lol I just realized that I ripped off someone elses previous puffer suggestion...
Puffers would be awesome to implement, but I want a more aggressive mob first.
(Sharks with fricken lazer beams on their fricken heads preferably)
You mean you got me a fricken pool with fricken sharks with fricken lazers attached to thier fricken heads?

Secondly: Welcome to the forums; expect creepy people, trolls, and people that whine about updates. In other words: Welcome to a place of pain and suffering. xD
One of the things that would be awesome to see would be a whale.
Would be about 5 squares for the width, and about 20? squares for the length.
They are neutral, and do not attack if attacked, because they are far too hard to kill as they only live in
the deepest parts of the water and only a\occasionally surface to breathe. The whale usually goes around with his
mouth open, so you can swim inside and have a look around at his innards. Attacking him from inside will give you
x2 damage but when he dies you might find yourself in a too deep part of the sea and probably drown :tongue.gif:

Just an idea, really.
And you can put a saddle on it!

Hello? Eat my tarts? In this cosmic dance of bursting decadence, withheld permissions twist all our arms collectively. But if sweetness can win- and it can- then I'll still be here tomorrow to high five you yesterday my friend. Peace.
One way sponge could work is by rapidly growing when in water (ie swelling up), so one block could fill a small room with sponge instead of water, which means it is easier to clear out. The sponge shouldn't drop sponge blocks, though, otherwise it would be too easy to farm. Maybe it would need to be crafted from a special wild sponge?

Awesome. Maybe you need to combine multiple sponge parts to make one place-able sponge block? Kind of like how you need to bake clay balls into bricks, then combine bricks into blocks. A sponge has a 10% chance of dropping a sponge piece when broken down, and you need 9 sponge pieces to make a new sponge block. That would make it reasonably difficult to farm. If a placed sponge expands from 1x1x1 to 5x5x5 max, that's 125 sponge blocks yielding 12.5 sponge bits when dug out on average - just a little bit more than what you need to replace the original sponge.
Make vast oceans and people can actually make boat houses and live in the middle of the ocean and travel from places to places, docking when necessary to get some wood or something perhaps. But most important of all people should be able to survive mostly on the water by going under water and getting whatever necessary resources they might need.
I like the idea of 30 blocks of vision underwater, then after that it slowly gets darker until 35 blocks or something then you'd need underwater flares or some kind of torch that glows underwater. Damn, that would be so scary XD
anyways great idea hope Notch get this massive update sometime ;p
