Frankly I'm disappointed. The squid just tried to run away while I attacked him, but instead he ran into my wall underwater. Yes I'm trying to get an underwater house, I think it'll be worth it. The squid is a disappointment. Didn't attack back at all, and he didn't drop anything.
I would rather it be a squid than a sea serpent however. Notch should build up the ocean from the ground up, not the top down.
Anyway, the squids are funny if you think about them long enough. For that, I give Notch and the squids a single diamond ore:
Squids are a good start, yes. I would like to see some kind of hostile mob at night eventually though :biggrin.gif:
And the squid also drop ink sacks, which can make dyes.
Sorry, if this is just a re-post of something you have heard before but i felt if this is were you go to put things about the ocean (and i was getting told this is were it should go) this is what i got.
The people of minecarft have seen the water and have made city's atop its frozen support, floated on top of it with boats, and have even built houses, and cities under it. But with the new water mob (squid) there comes the question, well how deep do i have to go to find one? Then that brings the question of, how long can i stay down there? that is why I would like to suggest that there be a mod or even in game option for an under water exploration helmet and boots.
Now I know what you are all might be thinking, Overtake wont making a helmet that lets you stay under water ruin some of the challenge of the game? well that is were a system of pros and cons come in to play. with the helm you would get a much longer time you can be under water but your view would be cut by a round mask filter much like the pumpkins. Then there would be boots that would help you walk faster on the water floor (as fast as on dry land) but if worn on dry land you would move slower, and you would not rise as fast out of the water all these do to the weight of the boots.
these items would make things like finding the new water mob (squid) and building amazing things under water much more convenient to the player, and how knows might bring around new weapons and monsters (do i hear Harpoon and shark?) . lastly on a side note i have pics of how i think the helmet and boots should be made but do not know how to put them on the post, so any help would be much appreciated (in making this vision a possibility).

i decided to make these items very simplistic do to the technology that we are given in the game and that it is a very simplistic design for players that my have just got the game and want to explore more of the oceans floor much like most the items in the game.

well at least Notch added a water mob, the first ever. But now he added a sea mob, he might just add a better hostile mob.
Amazing ideas though, it would be amazing and laggy if all these ideas were added. But I think it would be worth the lag for all these features.
How sad that the only water mob we have, the squid, doesn't seem to know how to swim, just sink... :[
We must teach them to swim! In other words, They need fix it so that squids act like Ghasts in water.
Not only that but their current animation is lackluster and seems to be missing body parts :[. And its only drop is its ink sak...

missing the iconic 2 long arms distinct to squid.
"flies" like a Ghast in water, (actually swims through water levels) having its head pointing to the direction its going.
added flapping fins on the side of the head.
added 2 long arms (should have 2 hinges making them flex).
drops "calamari" (heals 2 hearts?).
Good thing we are still in beta so that these wonderful ideas and fixes could be added :].
