Yeah great idea(s) 's for you
also with the first post bit you did with the "diving suits" where it has 2 's... i wouldn't (and im sure many others) wouldn't use that recipe because you hardly ever come across 's while mining... unless you either: cheat (i hope not), have a really good tactic or are really lucky.
but awesome idea!
P.S just make sure there aren't and under water 's... it would be so annoying...
EDIT: the underwater 's are my idea... if no-ones posted it before me...

like my avatar? it's pretty cool huh? you want it don't you? because it's better than yours...
well... TOO BAD!
As a BioShock fan, I would love to see this implemented so I can build a more interesting and better looking City of Rapture. Plus: Diving Gear + Harpoon = BIG DADDIES!
Mayb for a light we could use light stone dust or what ever its called for a light source but would be a lot better under water so it would be like a normal torch but works underwater and on land it would give out a bought the same light as a red stone torch so it would be made like this
( = light stone dust)
This would be an amazing addition. I would love to be swimming around and run into a sea monster......maybe like Nessie............or even a super rare MEGALODON!!!!.....but only if he puts sharks, and to take great whites RAWR!!!

I guess that that would be really hard to make though, since getting to the Nether is hard. Maybe you could make it like this though:
It would be easier to make than getting lightstone.
I like it using light stone dust, because it adds a sense of progression and accomplishment, you know?
You have to find diamond first, then find some obsidian, go to the nether, get light stone dust and then start exploring the oceans, like a new world...
It's a great idea. Liek the shark mobs, and I know Firehazurd had two aquatic mobs suggested, so it would pair well with this. Maybe having visisble fish mobs could enhance the cosmetics and make fishing more interesting.
I think right now that there aren't any oceans in Minecraft -- just lakes. I noticed that the scuba weights cost less then iron leggings and have more functions; are you sure that the fall-damage draw-back is enough too keep it fair? Now that I think of it, I think it will be fine, but I just wanted to put it out there.
Support this idea, and every idea here, x 9999999%
We really need underwater exploration. This would open up a whole new world of minecr- sorry, oceancraft!
Notch, we need this!!
with the intruduction of pumpkins and lightstone underwater lighting realy as been taken care of (if this was already mencioned i posted this cause of lazyness to read it all)
It has. And as mentioned, they aren't really ready to use, nor are they easily accessible.
This would be a wonderful addition to the game and personally I'd enjoy the game much more. :smile.gif: Thanks for creating a thread about this and I hope Notch takes this into consideration!

I have an idea for the "complicated" inventions such as the gear and all... Notch could add use to books by allowing us to wright in them and to store them in the book shelves.. the book shelves would have already had a series of books that told people how to build certain things
For example: a book titled "Undersea Expidition" could have a couple of useful recipes and crafts that would improve Underwater experiences....
I think it is a good idea in the fact that if would help others that are troubled instead of going on minepedia and would finally give se to books and book shelves! lol

Maybe you could find books like that with crafting recipes in dungeons? (Of course they would be useless due to Minecraft Wiki's list of all crafting recipes.)
Not sure if it's been suggested, 18 pages is tl;dr, but what about just some sort of waterproof lantern for underwater usage? The recipe could be something like...
Where the "coal" is the fuel for the lantern, the glass is the "window", and the iron is the casing. It would have two modes. The first would make it act like a simple torch, but underwater. The second would be as a held object, where, as long as you're holding it, it will light up an area around you equivalent to a torch.
Other than that, [Like b]
-edit-
Just noticed the post a few above mine. What about
The coal is needed because you'd need a fuel with an oxidiser (Coal wouldn't be the best, but we don't have a lot more for now) underwater, due to the lack of oxygen. Unless you could somehow get the oxygen out of the water (Then you'd have leftover hydrogen around a flame, heh).
You know ideas similar to this have been suggested in other games too, Runescape, WOW, ect. The only problem is they never get through. I think Minecraft should be the first. This game has great potential to put all of those other developers to shame because of it's ability to adapt, this would be great proof of that. Thank you for a great suggestion!

I really have no idea, TBH.
I just hope someone mentions it to him on the IRC, or for him reading it here. Maybe I'll post this up on Get Satisfaction eventually.
Anyways, I love the idea ^.^

Ah haha, you're welcome.

Also, where did you get this idea for "gears"? Gears have nothing to do with this.

I meant as in the stuff that you would be wearing.

Also, has anyone suggested bathyspheres?
