why the heck you guys started talking about drills this thread is OCEANCRAFT.
True. Put drills in another thread (most likely one that is already made).

I have an idea for rivers if they get placed in- Gold panning! Just like in california, panning for gold would be an awesome addition to minecraft. Gold nuggets could appear as you start panning, 9 nuggets could create 1 gold ore block. Other minerals such as iron could also be panned for as well.
I don't think nuggets should be equivalent to ingots (as they both require 9 to make a block), but here is another idea:
4 nuggets create an ore block, that then can be smelted into ingots. I really think nuggets should be lower-powered like this because "panning" would effectively be an infinite metal source.

I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.
re: tsunamis (& earthquakes too)
The idea of natural disasters where blocks can be destroyed sounds exciting at first but I think would be too annoying in reality. How would you feel if your castle / house /monument you'd worked for hours on was damaged or destroyed? I would personally feel cheated. The only thing in the game that has this ability at the moment are creepers, and they're pretty controversial. If you make the player's creations unsafe then it'll diminish his inclination to make them at all.
I must admit, I completely agree. To you I give x3 plus a egg:
I can see where this would obviously be true, but two other possible options would be (one) for players (who want to be "safe") to play on Peaceful, or (two) perhaps the constant threat of creation destruction would cause Mine Crafters to come up with more ingenius ways to keep destructive forces (most especially Creepers) away from their castle, manor, log cabin, etc. (Lava motes, anyone?)
A tsunami that demolishes just about anything, perhaps could be stopped with a sufficiently thick wall of stone, and maybe it would need to be repaired each time lest the tsunamis slowly (over time) manage to breach the defense.
For an earthquake, perhaps a new (or previously created) block could be placed as a flexible (?) foundation. Perhaps something made from slimes? Or from a sponge? Maybe one of the new underwater plants/mobs/etc could be the key to this flexible block.
Another anti-earthquake possibility - a block that could be used as a foundation that floats on the water and is able to move around a little (buoyant base?). I realize that building a house on an island, and then removing all the dirt blocks underneath the initial above-water layer of (ie.) dirt would have the same effect, but I'm just throwin out a suggestion.
Anti-volcano? Go with the basic trench to reroute the lava flow - it's all down to the Mine Crafter for this one.
Or perhaps area-specific natural disasters. That would be sweet :smile.gif:

I think he means 9 nuggets = 1 ingot, or 81 = 1 solid block.
We need tools that are effective underwater, because if we're going to have something to harvest underwater then I'm positive that we'll have a problem because it takes so long to harvest things in the water.
I only support this if there is an option as to how deep you want the oceans to go. If you want them down to bedrock, you get them down to bedrock. If you want them only 5 blocks, you get them only 5 blocks.

I suggest we adopt a xenophobic attitude towards this clearly deadly threat.
We need to quarantine any infected individuals to prevent this plague from gaining a foot-hold.
Well, there needs to be more objects in the ocean, different fish that you can fish for, and different color parts of the ocean. There should be mobs in the water at night too. (KILLER WHALE.)
Scuba gear and maybe a flashlight would be cool underwater too (Mentioned in the first post.)

I like this i idea so much if minecraft could add in ocean and farm mode it, this game would be more than perfect
simulating the real world of us in our own imagination:: love how this thing can make the game more adventurous
XDDD
That's an awesome idea. And why not add water pressure and the only way you could go into trenches near the bedrock is with a submarine. Now that would be the price of admission for me!
Wooof....just finished reading through this entire thread. Took like an hour!
Based on what's been suggested, I would like to suggest my ideas for the mechanics behind underwater flora (corals, seaweed, kelp, anemones, etc.) Yes these ideas are based on existing suggestions. I'm just expanding on them.
Coral:
The basic coral block would be the coral skeleton ( ) made up of dead coral. Live coral would appear on the surface of this block if it's exposed to water. There would be at least three types:
ordinary coral, might spawn fish
poisonous coral that hurts when touched
glowing coral
coral branch
all of these might have different uses for crafting, and there could be different types of regular coral that spawn different mobs.
Regular coral blocks (skeleton coral) could be a construction material or used to craft items such as harpoon points.
A basic coral reef would look like this:
But over time it would grow (quite slowly) replacing with new coral blocks and causing new to appear. Buried coral would become dead skeleton coral.
Should the reef break the surface, sand would appear on top and it would form a coral island
[] [] [] [] [] []
Obviously there would be a limit to how big a reef would grow (like trees) in order to keep the coral from taking over the whole ocean, but you would be able to "plant" coral using to create new reefs.
Glowing coral would only appear very deep, but behave the same way. Obviously the bioluminescent material harvested would have a lot of uses. Undersea lighting, as well as possibly bluestone, although a more likely source for that might be lapis lazuli.
Poisonous coral would be rare and probably appear in patches among regular coral, not forming its own reefs. Harvesting it would yield a poison for use in weapons and traps.
Kelp/Seaweed
Kelp would appear on the sea floor and would grow vertically (like reeds or cacti) to be quite tall (say, 16 blocks or until it reaches the surface) it would form dense forests and attract large numbers of fish. Movement through kelp would be slowed a bit.
Seaweed, on the other hand, would be just a green plant that sits on the bottom like a flower. Seaweed could be used for sushi, and kelp could be harvested for fiber to make rope.
Sponges
I know sponges are technically an animal, but whatever.
Sponges would appear deep down on the sea floor and grow three high. Harvesting would yield wet sponges.
Anemones
Also animals, sure. but they act like plants
These would always be small, like seaweed. They would appear on coral and damage you if touched. Not gonna bother drawing them. They could function as the coral branches for poisonous coral possibly, or exist on their own right.
Tube worms
Acting like plants, these would appear over underwater vents. They would be hard to harvest since the hot water coming out of them would damage you, but their drop could be something extremely valuable. Maybe rubber pipes for steampunk?
= boiling water
= tube worm

To say more: coral reefs already do exist. Check my signature!
That's cool, but I'd rather see it added officially. And see reefs build up and eventually form islands, as I mentioned.
You have some cool mods though. Good work.
You modders should start making this into a mod :tongue.gif: I would, but I dunno how. Anywho, I think it'd be kinna fun to have something that's like a murlock :tongue.gif:
