Yup, that's right.
Not like hell, but a mirror replica of the normal world.
It's not day or night; it's a strange twilight forever.
In this dimension, you travel at normal distance, many blocks are normal.
However, there are
A. Different mobs.
Shadowy versions of the regular mobs are always there, stronger than normal. Peaceful mobs are... less so.
B. New blocks.
Strange ores that fulfill odd purposes, glowing water, giant mushrooms for trees? Things like this are found in this dimension.
How do you get there?
With a portal.
Unlike hell, the Mirror portal is made of iron and glass:
= Ironblock

And light it like a hell portal.
With hell, we will have potential for more interesting dimensions-consider this one an example.
Sounds good to me. I'm always in favor of weird new worlds. Except space. or the moon. Or anything not minecrafty. But this is.
Annnyyyyway....
Perpetual twilight, glowing water, mushroom trees, and strange mobs all sound good. Lots of glowy little sprites perhaps? And fungal beasts? I'm liking this more and more...
EDIT:
Different ores? Lots of bio-luminescence? Lots of organic resources? Sort of like a fay type world, very arcane and such. Could the ingredients for alchemy be found here?
[/stream of continuousness]
Sounds great to me.

Why am I strongly reminded of Twilit Hyrule in Zelda: Twilight Princess?

maybe because he said twilight? o.O
But this reminds me of an old game called hocus pocus.
ANYWAY i like the idea and it would be fun. but would you be able to bring things from that world back to the real world?
Well, it's less a mirror at that point, but a fairy-esque dimension sounds ripe for picking alchemy ingredients, mushrooms, and perhaps magical items? +1

The best games you've never heard of:
Little Big Adventure: Relentless, Little Big Adventure 2: Twinsen's Odyssey, Mischief Makers, Beyond Good & Evil
Entering the mirror dimension is done by right clicking a magic mirror which is two blocks tall. How a magic mirror is actually constructed is not my concern right now, just as long as it significantly easier then building a nether portal.
Attributes of the mirror realm.
-The image is horizontally flipped, controls are changed to prevent you from noticing this and to prevent a load time. Blocks can still be destroyed and planted for the most part and with consequence the real world.
- Real world time and physics stop. Red stone singles still work however.
- The sky is filled with visible planetary bodies and there are no cloud. There is no day or night cycle, and there is no inherent darkness.
- Water and lava springs do not generate flow blocks as time is stopped, currents do not generate pulled because of this as well. Using bucket to plant liquid blocks still works, but said blocks are also still stopped in time. Lava can still hurt you though.
- Sand and Gravel do not fall, and will not fall until real world interaction.
- Real world mobs are stopped in time. If you attempt to interact with them however, you will be returned to the real world.
- Fires and torches from the are real world are stopped with in time. However, attempting to start a fire in the mirror dimension will start an anti fire, that generates darkness and freezes water. Same thing happens when planting torches in the mirror dimension as they become anti torches with the same properties as anti fire. Both anti fires and anti torches cease to exist upon return to the real world.
- Touching a Nether portal will pull you back into the real world. You cannot enter the mirror world from the Nether, Magic mirrors instead send you back to the real world.
There are special mirror mobs that exist in the mirror dimension. I haven't really decided what though so I'll have to get back to you on that. What I have decided is that they drop special blocks not normal found, as the mirror dimension is just the real world map with different properties and can't have the game throw in new blocks.

Say what you want, but I will be taking the cake."
Also awesome.

Anyways, I like the idea of a mirror realm, as long as it is mirror, not just different.
Ideas as such would be that are evil and are good.
Hamumu.com, the site I should thank for helping me find minecraft.
