Okay so I was thinking, sand obeys gravity in both Minecraft and the real world. However, I also noticed that wet sand can disobey gravity and be self-standing and maintain a shape. So I tried to think of ways to apply this to Minecraft and its current physics.
There are a couple of ways that this can be done.
For one, either any sand block within a certain amount of distance from water (To Be Determined) can be what is known as "saturated" similar to how tilled soil becomes wet when water is nearby. This would allow the blocks in that area to be free standing.
Another way, which I think is easier, is by creating a new block type we will call "Wet sand" for now. This wet sand could be placed in any formation much like dirt, stone, wood, etc. can be placed. I was considering possible ways to implement this, and if you have some, please do reply, but anyway. I was thinking that instead of having to be near water, they would actually have to be COMBINED WITH water on a crafting bench, or since this would theoretically only be two blocks, A block of sand above a bucket of water, it could be done in the inventory crafting table as well.
A problem with that might be getting the bucket of sand to empty itself after its use. It might be difficult to implement, but I really do think I'm onto something here.
As for the first theoretical situation, I think it would be fairly easy to apply the physics already used in saturated soil and apply them to sand, but instead of an "arable state," it would be a "No Gravity State."
Well this is my idea, it's a bit late at night for me to be thinking so deeply about something, but I think I got my point across clear enough. It just occurred to be when someone was talking about sandcastles and I came right here. Let me know what you think.
I know this has been posted before, but it deserves more attention.
