hot air balloons and boats to sail the ocean wide...Yes!
minecraft ....yes we love mining. we love being underground. we also love building monumets above ground that sometimes you need a perspective only the ability to fly can provide to appreciate it. as for exploration, flight isnt too safe, neither is a boat.
the concept here is the ability to craft a block that creates the ability to build, in free form open to all imgination can produce, boats and aircraft that encourage exploration and creativity....
How: Two blocks that we can create. one block is a block of hydrogen. It floats in the air much like the avatar maneuvers underwater. the other block is a block of watertight wooden plank. this block floats in the water and acts like a boat.
building with these new blocks? well...
with the hydrogen block (H-block), you can only attach non-hydrogen blocks to a H-block on the bottom of the block if you want to keep the ability to move in the air. you can attach other H-blocks to H-blocks any way you like, and the combining of the two would increase the lift of the combined total. Values will need to be assigned to all the blocks in the game for weight, thus we can allow 1 H-block to lift 1 wood plank, 4 H-block to lift one workbench, 2 H-block for 1 stone block, 16 H-blocks to lift one oven and so on.
in theory you build a portable workshop and it takes a blimp to get it off the ground and moving.
However, as a tool, should you wish to build a floating island in the air but want to avoid the task of building a tall tower to start, you can place a normal block on the top or sides of the H-block and it would lock the block in place much like a normal floating block. this will lock not only the H-block you've attached the normal block to, but will also lock all the attached blocks (allowing you to "tether" your nice new hugely awesome blimp)
for kicks and giggles...hydrogen blows up when it catches fire. hehe *evil face*
now, the watertight wooden plank or Hull Plank is the opposite, almost, to the H-block. You can build normal blocks on top of it only if you want to maintain mobility in the water, and other hull planks can be built off it in any direction. Again, if you place a normal block onto the sides or bottom of a hull plank, it will lock it into place like any other normal block. As with the H-block there must be a weight value, however I might suggest it be slightly different for teh Hull Plank ie: one hull plank can float 4 wood planks or 2 stone. boats can float more thank a blimp can, right?
for this boat thing to work, there will need to be some attention made to the water source blocks. there may need to be a new type of water block designed specifically as "salt water" that performs differently so that when you take out some water with a bucket it doesnt create turbulence in teh water around it....or if you displace it with another block it wont destroy the water but will simply displace it....obviously for this whole hull plank idea to work, water will need some desperately over due revamping.
great, we have the tools now to build great new machines...yay! BUT....how do we fly/steer?
fine....we need two more new blocks(a total of four new blocks if you are adding)....a wheel (this old fashion ship wheel as they use those for blimps as well as boats) and an engine (something built using an oven maybe) make sure you connect the two with red dust and when you right click on the wheel you can fly the blimp much like you would swim in water (maybe we could do something for autopilot?) or on the water you can steer your new giant boat like you could the old lil square thing.
but wait there is MORE....damage?
Run the boat aground two much and risk damaging your hull planks, when they break, you risk your boat becoming too heavy. if your boat is designed to displace water, water will rush into the boat just for dramatic affect. of course, maybe this might encourage sea monsters to attack you from inside your boat...who knew?
run your blimp into a cliff and pop it? very likely. warning, Hydrogen blocks attached to eachother tend to act as one entity, pop one, they all go (build them in sections to prevent utter disaster.) if your gondola were to plumit to the ground for a distance, it would smash appart into peices, just like the old boat used to. minus the hydrogen of course. Fly to high and the same could happen, be careful not to push it when you reach altitude.
can I use a hull plank to build a sub? why not! :smile.gif:
let them know how badly we want this people!!!!
