Yes, I say Minecraft needs a large plains biome that changes very little in height, maybe only 3 blocks up or down, to give the terrain a slight hilly look.
Also when I say large I mean HUGE, maybe about 10 km? That or instead of Mountains and hills with plains in between, plains with mountains and hills in between.
Just a thought, seeing as how I get annoyed by having to build multiple tunnels through mountains when making a road, and going around a mountain doesn't work because there is usually one right next to it, and another, and another.
Edit: 250 km was maybe overkill, maybe in the future it is possible, if Notch adds faster transportation and/or a master/cloud game server, where its like one big planet where everyone plays at the same time.
Agreed. There are too many mountains most of the time and building towns and cities can be a pain if you have to flatten a few mountains first. There's no flat ground on the current level generator.
250 km, or 250,000 blocks across seems a bit of an overkill.
A few things of note.
250,000 blocks takes about 60,000 seconds to cross (I think player is 4~5 meters/sec), this means it takes 17 HOURS of non-stop walking to cross (by mine-cart about 9 hours).
For some reason I was thinking 1 km was a lot shorter than it actually is, then I started thinking about walking across 1000 tiles, and now I agree, I think it is overkill
yes, but maybe 250 to 500 blocks max. it sounds kinda boring to me though....

Minecraft must NOT turn into the next WoW or Runescape.
Notch has an IQ over 130. He isn't stupid.
For some reason my hell looks like a train station....
No, that's not nearly large enough for any biome. You could walk across that in less than 3 minutes and that's for the 500 block size. The whole point of biomes is to spread out the map features (as well as add variety) so you can't get every geographical feature within a stone's throw of your house.

Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by incompetence.

Why not!?

I think 5-8 km is good for any flatter or tree biome and maybe 3-5 km for desert biomes
