A little too dark for me, Im not into the whole "satanic ritual" sort of thing or anything pertaining to "souls" Thats my belief but anything that has to do with that is ... well "satanic" this is just my opinion.
Heh, been neglecting the necrocraft idea for a while, since the halloween update came out. I'll finish redesigning the menus, make new mobs, ect, in a bit.

~ I've thought about the phrase 'Money is the root of all evil' and I have to disagree. Evil isn't dependant on an object. I say that want is the root of all evil.
First: A celestial tome. Made by taking a blood tome, and putting a diamond gem on either side of it. This is used for "pure" summons. A "pure" summon is for mobs that aren't really evil, like zombies or skeletons. They take considerably more resources as they can only spawn as pigs if they spawn badly.
Golden Warrior: (Celestial Tome and soul amulet first) = Lightstone =sword = soul shard
Golden warriors emit a level 2 light. They move quickly, but are weak. They only have five hearts. Their attack does two damage, but they attack quickly. They move independently of the player, but will not move twenty meters away from its spawn point.
Revived Zombie: (Celestial Tome and body first.) =soul shard =blood vial =Lightstone Dust

[] [] []
It is like a greater zombie, but slightly faster and can take a bit more damage. If they are in level six darkness or below, they turn into a regular low level light sensitive zombie.
By the way, thank you Mr. Torb for sparking my creativity.

Finished retexturing the summons, will add them to the op in a sec.
Your celestial tome, fast but weak mob, and light emiting mob ideas are very interesting. Ill talk about it more in my post later. I also like the idea of leveling up the tomes. How about each tome can be used for each summon type, with summons requiring a leveled up tome, (or a certain stage of a tome, for blood golems and the bleaks, which would need the blood tome) so you could use your good tome for basic summons as well.
I hope you don't mind if I tweak your idea a little:
How about the golden warrior acts more like a greater zombie, except for its light giving capabilities. Every time it stops moving (to be feasible with the current engine), it starts emiting light with the level of a torch. And, to make it to be considered more than a greater zombie and a torch, make the center-piece a soul block (four skeletons worth of crystal is expensive anyway, and you need to go to hell to get part of the moster's ingredients), and give it double the health, but equal damage to, the greater zombie. That would make it something that you could bring into a cave, and stop with if you needed light when mining, a valuable companion that you can bring on long journeys without it getting extra crispy, or a guard that doubles as a light in the area.
I like that I've sparked your creativity, though (even if I tweaked your idea by a bunch :C).
Oh and do you mind if I use the idea of a "fast but weak monster", as well as the bright zombie, in the OP?

I do not mind at all. I suggested these for you to add if you liked them. Apparently you like (at least some of) them.
K. Thanks.

Zombie Follower
It cannot attack, it cannot do anything to help you besides- summoning more "useful" minions. This connected to my Alternate Dimensions idea. The zombie follower will stay near the necromancer table. It will increase the success rate by 1%. You can make more followers to increase succsess. Killing them will give you an OtherWorld essence where you get a screen showing multiple new monsters to do your evil bidding.

A man can only understand the worth of his present for all eternity once he gets to see his future and past just once.
I think this and other methods to get minions of some sort (such as an army of normal people or golems) would be pretty cool. You could really make your own kingdom that way.

Hmm. A minion that you summon that buffs you slightly, and then can sacrifice to summon more powerful monsters, is a very win idea. Now if only there were a monster, that could be powerful and summonable without being OP, but also demonic enough to require undead sacrifices. Hmm..

Have you ever thought of being able to summon "stationary" things for defensive or distraction purposes?
Ranged mobs (when in guard mode) always stay still, and setting melee mobs on guard makes em stop until a mob gets nearby (afterwards, they return to their post).

If you like my celestial tome, how about a corrupt tome? Take a celestial tome, and (if lead ever gets put into the game) put lead on top and below it. The corrupt tome could be used for summons too powerful for a celestial tome, but not evil enough for a blood tome.
It could be used for a "thief" mob idea.
The thief could be used to get items from chests. It scans for chests, picks the nearest one that it is more than sixteen blocks away from, and empties it. If its carrying capacity (half of a regular inventory) is not filled, it proceeds to the next chest. When its carrying capacity is filled, it returns to you, and gives you the items. Any leftover items are lost in transit, never to be seen again. In single player, it could be used for raiding dungeons, or if you go on long travels and need supplies it could go back home for you. In multiplayer, it could steal from other people's chests. It would be fast, but have low health. If attacked, it will deter from its path, choosing instead to go to the next chest. It could be made like this.

is a soul shard is a pair of boots
My other tome idea was the "Necromancers Almanac" It could be made by placing three tomes, one on top of another. It could be used in recipes in place of a regular tome, but none others. It would then decrease the chance of a mob spawning hostile, and give you a one percent chance of getting two mobs rather than one.
I like the idea of the "Necromancers Almanac", and monsters with storage would be good for trips, but with the thief idea, it seems like I could get 8 theif mobs and grief the balls off of any nooby who happens to have a chest.

The only improvement I have to suggest is that the recipes are in books. Weaker have easier books to craft. This is only because its not as straightforward as pickaxes and the like where you sorta just draw the object.
Really interesting, but it seems to complicated for a game like minecraft.
Here's a quote to answer your statement
Quote from Mr Torb »
Too complicated!
Step one: kill skeleton, grab shard.
Step two: stab zombie with knife, grab body.
Step three: stab sheep, get blood.
Step four: profit.
Besides, certain things in redstone can be complex.
It could have a pumpkin head, with a horse.
