This is one of the weirder things I've thought of...
So this mob is the first caster mob I've thought of. As the title implies, it is a hell exclusive mob, and a rarer one at that. Essentially it's a wizard mixed with Moses mixed with evil. They stand on top of large mountains, and if they spot the player, they cast spells at him to deter him. Like a territorial mob, they defend the area around them and their mountain. However they do not move. They stay on their mountain, and if they player leaves, it'll forget about him.
Behavior: As stated above, territorial. Defends itself and its mountain. Does not attack other hell mobs. Does not move from the spot it spawns on. Attacks: Lightning bolt - A bolt of lightning that falls from the sky (not an instant raycast, an actual object). Does 1 heart damage plus a .5 damage over time for 4 seconds, ticks every 1 second. Flame Wreath - Encircles the player in fire in an attempt to trap him. Rupture (suggested by Pyro627) - If it dies and you're still out of melee range, the mob attempts to tear open the ground beneath the player and plunge him into a sea of lava. Defense: Has three hearts of health. However, it has a shield that takes six arrows to penetrate. Melee weapons penetrate it instantly. Drops: They're rare and a little tough, so it drops a fun item; it's staff. It's staff is a weapon, that when wielded by the player allows the player to use it's lightning bolt attack. You just right click, and a lightning bolt will strike whatever block you were looking at, up to a distance of maybe 20-30 blocks. However, the staff has durability, like other weapons, and eventually wears out.
I like this a lot, but you do realize there are no mountains in hell because it's underground?
Edit: I'm assuming lightning shoots from his staff, otherwise it's useless as well. Also, may I suggest a new attack: Rupture. A sizeable crack appears in front of the player, with lava at the bottom and shooting flames. Would seal u after a while.

This man really is a genius. Never have i seen such a clear and well written forum post.
Rhinoceroscity, you make such beautiful monsters. I'd love to see this guy someday, and have an epic bow and arrow/magic fight against him to steal his staff.
as for mountains in hell, I have a suggestion for that: When the prophet is going to be spawned, he can only spawn on an air block, and his spawning generates a mountain (or hill, depending on height) underneath him. This would kinda make it seem like he's teleported near you and brought and entire hunk of land with him. Pretty cool entrance, I'd say.
Suppose, also, if a chunk is loaded, it checks for if one will spawn. If the answer is no, a prophet will never spawn there, and if one has spawned, the chance to spawn another one is reduced by half, which would fight against hell being overrun by giant mounds of terrain over time as you fight them.

The staff is just decor really, and of course he drops it so you can pretend to be Thor for a while. I like the attack idea though, thats badass, if a little OP. It would probably be something he does once his shield is gone and you're still out of melee range, meaning you're probably trying to kill him purely with your bow and he needs a desperation attack. In fact it might even be something he does when he dies, as his last attempt to tear you down.

Also thanks for the complements.

Awesome looking mob! I love the lack of a face, other than the single hole into the firy pits of the inferno!
Yea, I didn't want something with a definitive face, I wanted something with one jewel-like eye surrounded by markings.

ELBOWS AND KNEES??! Blasphemy... this is madness!!!!
Haha I kid, I kid :tongue.gif: It would be really cool to have this in the game
THIS - IS - MINECRAFT
Yea, it's based off of this doodle I did while I was concepting other mobs. Doesn't look the same without joints.
it looks good, but how do you make these models anyway? they look very minecrafty

Model: Nice :biggrin.gif: I like it alot. I'd change the markings on the forehead a little though, I read them as eyes at first. He looked a little like a shoopdawoop. Other than that change nothing, its really nice and original.
Mountains in Hell: Why not? Notch's image looks like theres a couple there, maybe just restrict his spawning to a certain altitude and you're garanteed to a boss that'll rain fire from the heavens.
Behavious: Overall I like it, It'd completely lock off certain sections of hell to you and it'd provide a nice long term challenge. I'd suggest he spawns only with new chunks, is stored on the chunk and doesn't respawn.
Attacks: Hmmm, is this a slippary slope to WoW? I'd say the lightning attacks are enough and don't give the player the staff. If he has to drop something make it some rare ingredients for alchemy, I think the main benefit of offing him should be opening up a travel route where you don't have to deal with ZAP! Lightning attacks are enough of a threat on their own. Maybe give him a melee attack for when the player gets close enough (like whacking you with the staff)
Defence: If you're more than 5 blocks away nothing works (arrows/musket balls bounce off, cannon balls turn to dust etc), you have to get within five blocks of him before you penetrate his defences. I don't think he needs a shield, just program it in and blame it on magic, players will catch on.
Well, I want you to be able to duel him at range, but I don't want it to be easy to either use arrows or close distances... also having some spells that are logical, whether they're in WoW or not, is not a slippery slope. You'd have to go a loooooooooooooooong way to make this game comparable to WoW. I'll reconsider defenses though.
He wouldn't have any melee attacks, he's a pure caster class.
hey, what program did you use to make this model? it looks incredible.

Minecraft must NOT turn into the next WoW or Runescape.
Notch has an IQ over 130. He isn't stupid.
For some reason my hell looks like a train station....
I would love to go all Zeus on some creepers, but I think that lightning would need to be more powerful before i would use it as a weapon. As is, its just a fancy ranged stone sword.
Also, ripping a hole into hell, while very cinematic, seems a bit much. You're about to win, you kill it, OMGWTFAABAPITOFLAVA. I mean, it just seems like overkill. Like using a holy hand grenade on an ordinary rabbit.
I honestly don't think the rupture attack would be very good, because it has to remove, then re-add, blocks. I have a feeling that'd be tricky to program and would be very bad in attack form if used more than once, and it's sort of a giant 'screw you' bomb to the player if they manage to get caught in it, since it's almost impossible to survive if you get hit by lava, and more so if the only way out is some disappeared blocks that have suddenly reappeared.
Getting the staff is a good choice for a extra leg up in combat, so I figure that's a good reward- the bow does two damage a hit if I remember right, so it's stronger than arrowing your way to victory, but temporary, something you'd probably keep around for creepers, skeletons, and ghasts.
Unfortunately, Notch has said that attack magic will not be implemented, ever.
The staff could be used as an alternate form of destroying blocks, then?
I thought he said he was just against it, that he preferred more passive magic like alchemy or enchantments? Been a bit since I read what he said about that though.
Im just saying that the staff is underpowered. Not only is its damage barely above the bow, but it takes time to do THAT much. Maybe if you upped it to four hearts, making it deal twice as much damage as a bow.
I would have more fun fighting this then i would if i were fighting a horde of creepers! (and that's really saying something)
I like The Lightning attack but maybe if it were more powerful and he would give a sign that he was about to do the attack. "chargingchargingchargingZAP!"
I like the Rapture attack but i don't think he should do it when he dies, I think he should use the attack when he's low on health and he should still do it when your close to him. Using it as a final attempt to kill you while sacrificing himself to do so.
Anyway I love all your Mob creations! i hope they all get added!
sorry, but its your worst so far :sad.gif: more noise on clothes and more fingers on the feets maybe ?
3DS Max 2010. Doesn't need more noise, I referenced the zombies when I did the clothing. The zombies actually have no noise at all, just little pixels here and there. I may alter the costume in the future though. It's semi-temp at this point.

It's part vanity item, part fun combat item. It'd give you some more ranged utility anyways.

Well, maybe a bit of warning on the rift. Blocks would glow in a line, and then that line would be the centre of that rift. The target would not move. This is quite good, because the first time you'd be all "OMGWTFBBQ", but the second time you'd treat him with some more respect. Juts like the green penis of death creeper. If you had never heard of him, you'd likely die very quickly. If you'd done your homework, or you had been hit before, you'd know to kill him before he can asplode.
Yep, the ground would shake and the blocks in the rift line would start spewing particles, so you know you'd have to move.

I don't look at this from a programmers perspective. It's the programmers responsibility to make the ideas work.
Yea, that's the general idea around the staff. A penny for your troubles, something that might be useful in certain circumstances, but its temporary, so you need to face a tough mob to get it again.

These are just ideas, and I generally choose not to limit myself when making them. Lets say for a split second notch actually looked at them, its still up to him whether they get in or not.
