Environment: Aquatic AI: Non-Hostile, attempts to flee when attacked and squirts cloud of ink that cannot be seen through (perhaps a four block area around the octopus) Drop: Ink (Possibly gathered with bucket) Misc: Rarer natural spawn. Found in isolation.
I imagine this creature being a non-hostile mob, obviously aquatic, probably rare and even rarer to find several in the same place. They could drop ink, which could be used for all kinds of things *cough*cartography*cough.*
Plus, they're damned cute!
Comments welcome.
Variant:Giant Octopus
Environment: Aquatic AI: Hostile, Territorial. Perhaps if it gets too low on health, it will attempt to flee with a similar ink method as the normal octopus. Drop: Ink (Possibly gathered with bucket) Misc: Rarer natural spawn. Found in isolation.
Whipped this bad boy up with a simple geometry and texture change. Lemme know what you guys think. Hopefully it will appease those looking for a more dangerous aquatic foe.
Variant:Invisible Octopus
Environment: Aquatic AI: Non-Hostile, remains hidden disguised as a block of material until attacked. Which point it flees some distance and assumes another disguise. Drop: Omni-Ink (Possibly gathered with bucket), ink that can assume the color of any other object it is paired with (could be an extremely rare, but good way to get varying ink colors that usually require crushing up a bunch of a material) Misc: Extremely rare. Found in isolation.
This guy can land on a block, be it sand, rock, dirt or whatever, and turn into a copy of that block with little eyes. At which point it just sits there stationary. If you inadvertently try to mine the "octo-block," the mob freaks out and rapidly turns back into it's natural form and speeds off, startling the player to hell and back.
Mad as critter. Looks awesome, fits in with the Minecraft aesthetic perfectly in my opinion. Ink is a great product to drop from it aswell. Wouldn't mind some form of calamari either :tongue.gif:. Can't wait for some more aquatic creatures.

I know that lol. But it's minecraft so who cares. I am very happy to have a squid mob aswell, but calamari gives another purpose for the occy. Zombies drop feathers...why would calamari octopuses matter lol
The idea of a passive aquatic mob never crossed my mind, but now that I've seen the octopus, I really hope it gets implemented! It looks awesome, and ink/octopus meat would make excellent drops. Perhaps one could harvest ink from them instead of killing them by smacking them with a bucket, like how one milks a cow?
Hahaha! Milking octopods for ink would be amazing. We could spare the cute little guys and still get our ink. It would be really cool to make an aquarium and get some octopods in there for frequent milking. Ink farm.
@Megadog: Do you mean you want to see the actual texture? If so, enjoy!
If octopi were added, I'd hope they'd have more than a single block for tentacles; as it is now, they couldn't bend at all. Long, strangle-prone tentacles are what add the scare factor for me.
I like it, but how could that ADOWWABLE face possibly instill fear?

Marvel at my illustration!
Got inspiration for this variant from this video
Diamonds for you, good sir.
I should grow some extra thumbs to go 6x T-UP.
You sir, have earned more by five posts than a lot of people who have thousands of posts.
If this is NOT added, I will creeper pit jump.
EDIT: On a sidenote, I wish I could see that skin in minecraft setout, I would love to do stuff with it (octoman?)
Hamumu.com, the site I should thank for helping me find minecraft.
Calamari is squid.

This would be a great mob.
Possibly hostile when attacked?

I like it. Purple, different, cute and hopefully it can nastily strangle you with those arms.
B-but, squid....
