Isn't the whole point of coding an enemy like that that its hard? If notch thought it was too hard he'd code it as being easier. We'll have to wait and see what they're actually like of course, slimes were giant but not all that difficult.
That poll would be fun, why not throw it in? Just don't quote it as an authoratitive statistic.
Notch said once that he doesn't want to make this game too easy or it won't be fun.
Also the PC Gamer interview confirmed everything I was saying dude. Ghasts are giant things that launch explosions everywhere that light everything on fire. These are not going to be very fun at all.
You managed to span the phrase "its too hard" over several paragraphs.
Climb Gloves? Seriously. What you do is - You... Gather wood to make ladders :ohmy.gif: I know! Astonishing! If you dont put the effort in you dont get anything out.
As for a creeper dropping down on you, if you weren't looking where you were going, you deserve to die imo. Its the same if you dig down and fall into lava.
Dodge? You obviously fail at the game and allow monsters to get close to you. My first night i survived withought going into a hole. I had only seen a review of minecraft in which the guy did not hide in a hole overnight.
What i did was, i got on a vantage point which i could see around me, placed some torches, and killed anything that came near. If you catn dodge skeleton arrows... you seriously fail.
High jump.... if you need high jump then you dont know how to play the game.
Shield. Mabye. While it makes fleeing more viable it really is quite bad. L2dodge (not using a dodge move)
You stating that you dont have high reaction time and things should be made to suit you really shows your character. "Instead of getting better to reach my goal, why dont i just bring my goal to me!"
Sprinting? no. Again you shouldn't get into that situation if you don't want to be in it. Watch your back, watch your surroundings.
I swear so many people here simply ***** about how hard the game is, even though there is a easy and peaceful setting for them.
Heres some tips:
Normal Combat: Practice more
Cave exploring: Carry with you at all times in your hotbar, a sword, a bow, ladders (which can be spaced out by 1 block, since you are 1x2), and two cooked bacon. Then first off loo around as you go, laying down torches. If you come to a split junction, you have two options 1. choose one and go down it laying torches. 2. Block one off from creeps of one side (place a 2 high barrier with a ladder on it so you can get up or with a barrier and a door). As you go listen for sounds. If you hear zombie sounds keep your wits about you. Learn how to notice when it splits vertically, especially behind you.
If you spent less time bitching and more time learning how to cope you would be fine.
Conclusion: Combat is NOT broken in any sense of the word. Your suggestions to make combat easier are not needed. Also next time try using a more accurate title.

please for the love of ****ing god read the thread carefully, not just the op I'll gladly rebuttal these "points" you made after I'm finished with my chemistry homework and remedial precal homework
[ paraphrase ]Blah blah blah. You just think the game is too hard. Lurn 2 minecraft. Blah blah.[ /paraphrase ]
You've pretty much missed the point. Most of the complaints/suggestions have less to do with making the combat in the game easier as it is to make it more FUN; more complex and interesting, and therefor more enjoyable to engage in.
As it is, your only options are to find higher ground, keep constant surveillance around you so you never get surprised, and just smack repeatedly at any enemy you see. There's no ebb and surge as you shift from attack to defense. No matter how tense the situation is, you still trudge around at the same speed, etc.
Best...suggestion...EVER!
There are only a few things I dont like but the combat system has to be improved anyway!!
And btw to the post from Palidin:

I created a thread going into specific detail on how items could be used as bait by dropping them. The key focus for combat applications is the ability to simply drop the item for use as bait, instead of needing to craft something specific. This would allow you to carry some meat and gunpowder and gold that you could drop as you retreated, or possibly even toss it off a ledge so they go after the bait and are unable to get back from it.
So, I was gone for a couple of days. I created (copy-pasted) the suggested poll.

Out of that whole post of silliness, this is the only thing I am going to take a beef with. Raw reaction time (time it takes to react to an unpredictable visual stimulus) is changed very little from practice. Some people are born with a natural .1 second reaction time that they might be able to get down to .09. Most people have a reaction time of .2 and can get it down to about .18. Creating game mechanics that can only be overcome by people with a 99th percentile reaction time is bad design if you want your game to be accessible to most (99%) people.
I voted for Equipped Shield and Dodge for their improvements to combat. I also voted for Sprint and Extended Jump for their potential improvements to moving around in the game, but I still argue against their benefit to combat.
Personally, I like Rolling, Clambering and Sneak Shield.
Epic Duels in Multiplayer plz.
Two Gods of combat on the server face off in an epic struggle!
Besides, misuse of lots of these abilities could lead to death.
rolling into a pit, Rolling into lava, Clambering up into fire, sneak shielding at the wrong time, Clambering into the face of a creeper,
Inexperienced users of this system could actually have the game harder for them, through panicking. Experienced players shouldn't have their combat limited, and should be able to take down creepers quickly and efficiently. This also means that more open areas have much more effect than corridors.
I vote that while clambering, rolling and sneak shielding, however, you cannot attack with a bow or sword.

My thing is that I make a big distinction between defending my base combat, and the exploratory or traveling combat. As the game is in its current form, to succeed at fighting requires a lot of preparation in order to fight safely. Due to this, the true exploration, not base expansion, is very unrewarding. After the halloween update, I have had to make a tunnel for the 70 block run to my base, otherwise I wont survive a resapwn. That seems like a problem. As is, something about the combat should change. As exemplified in this forum, it should be done very carefully; otherwise it could tip the focus of the game toward an unintended route.
If I would chose one addition, it would be an item shield that would block some arrows when being held.
If I could change any one thing, it would be a small slowdown of creep walking speed, as fleeing is almost never successful do to one of any other mob interfering with my panicked sprint toward one of my fire lines.
I was going to start a new thread, but I USED THE SEARCH FEATURE to find this, and it's exactly what I think needs to be done. Thank you, OP for writing this.
Combat physics in the game are way too wonky and crazy. I get hit with an arrow and get knocked back like 30 feet. Annoying and completely unrealistic (not that Minecraft is supposed to be realistic, but jesus...). I could understand 1 block, or half a block. But to be catapulted because of an arrow is insane. Same with enemy melee attacks.
Bow firing speed is also the most retarded thing I've ever seen. It's like a medieval version of the AK47. God, I love Minecraft, but bows are so mind-numbingly annoying and broken that it makes me not want to ever use them. Attack speed please.
I also like your idea of creating a blur effect when swinging a sword.
Edit:
My vote went to Equipped Shield after a long debate between Equipped Shield and Clambering.
All amazing ideas though. Would really make the combat aspect of Minecraft a lot more enjoyable.
Well I see this hasn't been posted on in a while, so I want to close it up.
1.8 will be coming out, hopefully soon, maybe a few months. Notch mentioned that in it will be new combat mechanics, and then also a sprint feature. I don't think it will have anything TOO complicated. Honestly, combat is what I like the most about this game. It takes some bits of skill, and sometimes it can be pretty heart-pounding (you have 2 hearts left and your armor is low-quality, and suddenly 2 skeletons come out of nowhere!!)
We could use blocking, we could use dodging even, we could use some better ranged weaponry, but not much more than that.
Notch said once that he doesn't want to make this game too easy or it won't be fun.

I think that most of us agree that attacking while performing these moves would just be horrible or overpowered
