First of all, paper should be burnable. C'mon, it's paper.
So far, the only use for paper is to make books & bookshelves, which are decorative only. But there's plenty of room for expanding paper's role as a valuable resource, esp. considering how rare papyrus is. Here are some ideas:
(1) Creating a journal / ledger. This would be invaluable, to have an in-game system for keeping track of my mining operation, taking notes on where certain resources are located, etc.
(2) Crafting a map. (Paper + Compass?)
(3) Crafting other items, such as a deck of cards, or special blocks that resemble lamb's wool but are affected by gravity.
(4) Wearing a paper hat. :smile.gif: (Counts as armor, but grants little to no protection.)
(5) Crafting paper lanterns (perfect for a Japanese garden!)
Any else have ideas?

Perhaps you craft the map (3x3 paper), then you right click to mark everything within 50 (or etc) block radius on to the map (maps get bigger as you add more to them, and they add everything to the 'correct' location).
lots of walking around required to become a cartographer.
I believe Notch has confirmed a sort of Journal where you can transcribe into books. I am not entirely sure, but I will go take a looksie.
I do like this. Maybe the map would just be a topographical map that has one marker where your compass is.

I like the idea of maps having limited radius, as well as requiring you to physically visit the area.
(Perhaps a surveyor's scope would also be required? Or a GPS receiver?)
