Makes these, which are for climbing steep mountains and such. Good for if you accidentally fell into a cavern, because you're just that clumsy
To be not realistic, when made of better materials, like iron or diamond, they can climb stone, but lesser ones (rock and wood) can only climb sediment, which have a very slight chance of breaking off and falling.
They'd take more damage than the other tools, and if they broke while climbing, you'd fall down.
Up = W Down = S Release = Space, or switch weapons
Also, climbing wouldn't be horribly fast, but you can always get a jumping start, so this'll significantly help you get up 4-block edges.
ALSO NOTE:
If you suddenly fall of an edge, and pull these out when next to and facing a wall, it will grab on and start to do a slowing slide, heavily damaging the picks but likely saving your life.
Well, it's not that complicated
Another note is the 'x2' is because they're dual wielded, obviously. You can't really climb with just one, can you?
This would be epic!
Couple of questions on it to add depth (and my suggestions for the answers)
Durability? - 2x that of a regular tool, 1 use expended each block acended, maybe stone ice picks can climb stone, but 2 uses are expended per block, and so would wear out quickly and may drop you part way up a slope.
What would happen if you stopped moving? - you should stay in place, and even be able to climb down a little, also maybe be able to use tools or place blocks as long as you stay still (hanging on with one while you do whatever with the other hand)
I like the idea of picks, but maybe just one group could get you a pair to climb (because they would be considered 2 tools). I like this because I hate building or digging and wasting a billion tools to climb a mountain when this would be more efficient, faster, and more convinient

Err..... is it just me or is there a Creeper and Skele swarm over by my window and door?
Semi-related: You can already grab onto a cliff as you fall down it by pointing towards the cliff and placing a ladder. As soon as the ladder is placed, you are "inside" the ladder and begin descending at the ladder fall rate. It's saved my life a few times, actually, and without expending the durability of the tool, seeing as ladders have none. The catch, of course, is that you have to have them selected or somewhere on your bar where you can select them quickly, but then these ice picks would have the same problem.
Actually, now that I think about it, most of the function of these ice picks is effectively replaced by ladders, since they climb just as well if not better, and once again without depleting durability. They seem sort of redundant for that reason.
This is a great Idea, but the durability is a little low, and you can't have multiple tools selected at once. So maybe it is either you have one equipped and one in your inventory and it counts (like a bow&arrow)
Idea 2 is you put them in the same grid, like so.

So you get both picks. Also, you cannot dig with Ice Picks equipped.
